Dr. Ward was wonderful. When our baby was born, she was tongue-tied. The lactation nurse recommended that we see Dr. Ward. Despite not taking new patients, she saw us the day we left the hospital. She quickly and efficiently made an initial correction to our baby's tongue-tie and referred us to other specialists who would be able to do more, if needed. She was candid and very kind. We truly appreciated this approach and the time she took to see us. She asked us to come in for a follow-up (again, we were not going to be new clients), which we appreciated. She also called us personally a week after the follow-up to make sure everything was going well. Dr. Ward was very helpful and was excellent at relating to us as new parents. read more

I have been taking my 1 year old daughter to Dr. Ward since she was born and despite the location being somewhat inconvenient for me to get to- I wouldn't change Pediatrician if someone paid me. Dr. Ward is incredibly knowledgeable, warm and funny. Her office can be busy and crowded but once you get in the room with her- it's as if you are the only person in the place. Despite the fact that I'm sure she's rushed- she never makes me feel rushed. She asks insightful questions, is affirming and above all supportive of the parenting experience. I always make my daughter's appointment as early as possible. This can sometimes backfire if Dr. Ward is vising newborns in the a.m., but it also means not having to wait too long in the waiting room. Another note- My midwife recommended Dr. Ward to me because of her good reputation in helping mothers with breastfeeding. read more

I love Dr. Ward and more importantly my son loves her too. There is no longer a fight when I tell him that we're going to the doctor- the first question is "are we going to the nice one?" My son is four and a half and this is our fourth pediatrician and we'll be staying put. We make a long trip to her office but it's well worth it. Our daughter has been going to Dr. Ward since she was just a few days old and I cannot say enough good things about her and her staff. We were pretty clueless when we first came in as we were first-time parents and Dr. Ward took her time with us. She explained everything thoroughly and was very gentle with our daughter. There have been many occasions on which we've had to text or call Dr. Ward outside of normal business hours and she always responds quickly and never seems to be bothered, no matter how silly the concern. When you're a new parent, you want someone who is going to take her/his time with you and help you along the often difficult journey that is parenthood. Dr. Ward is that person. I am expecting my first baby at the end of March and Big Apple Pediatrics, P.C. came highly recommended to me by a work colleague. However, I have called their office not once, not twice, but FIVE times (leaving a message either with a real person or on voicemail each time), and have not heard a word back from anyone! Clearly, I can't say much about the qualify of care from Dr. Ward but I was LESS than impressed with the responsiveness of her office. We met Dr Cathy Ward while at St Luke's NICU, and saw her at her former office at Metro Pediatrics. She is very knowledgeable, has excellent bedside manners, and sure knows how to swaddle a baby like no other :) My twin boys absolutely love her! The most important thing when looking for a pediatrician is finding one who's philosophy on helping your baby is similar to your own. My kids have been seeing Dr. Ward since they were infants. They are now 13 and 15. She's guided us from infancy to puberty. When my daughter was suffering with colic, she worked with me to adjust my diet and coached me in the best nursing positions to minimize the colic. I have been taking my 2 year old to Dr. Ward since she was born and I have never been so happy and comfortable with a doctor before. I feel so lucky to have randomly stopped a baby in the street when I was pregnant and inquiring about pediatricians. She held a session for new and expecting parents where I walked away feeling ready to deliver and be a new mother. In the last two years there are so many doctor visits that you cant ask for more than to love going to your babies pediatrician. My daughter is now a toddler with her own mind and she even loves going to the office... she gives me so many valuable tips on parenting, she responds to my texts when its something important off hours. The only negative I can say is that I usually know there will be a wait in the office but I wouldn't imagine such a great doctor not having a huge following. Its worth it. read more

I found Dr. Ward through her positive feedback on Yelp. I never post reviews myself but our experience was so positive that I felt compelled to write my first review. I just visited Dr. Ward with my 7-year-old daughter to get her ears pierced and the experience could not have been better. The office is friendly and cheerful with a staff that was very encouraging of my daughter who was excited but nervous about the procedure. Dr. Ward saw us very promptly and was kind and patient. She uses pre-sterilized earrings that are in a self-piercing pack. She took a lot of time placing the holes evenly and didn't mark her ears for fear of tattooing on the mark. She did a perfect job. It was not a pain-free experience but my daughter stayed very relaxed and didn't flinch or cry. She said it "hurt like a shot". Dr. Ward also surprised me by giving us a follow-up phone call the next day. I can't recommend Dr. Ward more highly for ear piercing. An added bonus was that it was half the price of the other piercing places I researched. When I told my daughter that I was going to write this review she said " tell them that Dr. Ward is the best ear piercer in the world." read more

My daughter has been Dr. Ward's patient since she was born - 11 years ago. I decided to leave feedback here, but regretfully, it only goes to 5 stars. I wish it was 10+!!!! Well, she takes kids for up to 18 yo, so we have another 7 years with her. And afterwords, I guess i will have to have another baby, just so I could keep on seeing her. But seriously, she is a great Dr .and great with kids. And in addition, she CARES (a rarity nowdays) I wish my own doc was half as good as Dr. Ward. read more

I wished we could give Dr. Ward 10 stars. She is the most amazing doctor ever. We have been with her now close to 8 years since my son was born. We followed her from her previous clinic to now her having her own. She is the most caring and respectful doctor I know. We met Dr. Ward before our 1st child was born she took the time to talk to us about her practice and her style. She from the beginning to us she is very thorough and does not rush people out, which to us is very useful as we like to come prepared with questions. I will never forget the support she provided us with both of our children, but in particular with our son and learning how to breastfeed and comforting us when we had doubts or concerns. We can call Dr. Ward on her personal phone whenever we have emergencies and she is there to guide us and help us. For a few months while our insurance had changed and Dr. Ward's office did not take this insurance we tried another pediatric office and we were not happy at all. We could not wait to change insurances again and return to her care. I am so happy that in the end things worked out and she is now continuing to care for my children. She is very knowledgeable and the children love her. They are not afraid to go and look forward to seeing her every time. Her office is good about same day visits for sick visits or working around your schedule. She works one late night a week so you can accommodate your appointments. I have not myself experienced any negative things from her staff, besides sometimes taking a few minutes on hold on the phone or having to speak to them once or twice to get a form done. I would not leave Dr. Ward for things like that. She is a very busy doctor so I do understand that her office will have high volumes at times and we just have to be patient. read more

We are thrilled with Dr. Ward and very strongly recommend her. She is everything you could want in a pediatrician -- super smart, very caring, supportive, etc. As another reviewer wrote, she has a great philosophy on raising children and on medical care. Dr Ward is a phenomenal pediatrician. She is helpful and accommodating and gives every patient her full attention. The reason for the poor rating is her office and staff. The office itself is way too small and every time we went we would wait for an hour in a tiny room with 3 or 4 sick children, but worst of all is the staff who are (mostly) exceedingly rude, unprofessional, disorganized and completely ignorant to the basics of child health care. After a year with Big Apple Pediatrics we regretfully left even though Dr Ward was great because we just couldn't deal with the office and staff anymore. read more

I am a newly graduated family nurse practitioner who had the pleasure of working with Dr. Ward for my pediatric clinical rotation for 3 months. I do not work there, and my grade is already posted so I have no incentive to write this review except to say what an amazing clinician Dr. Ward is. What's special about Dr. Ward is her bedside manner matches her incredible knowledge base and critical skills. I saw her take care of things in her office that many providers would have been unable to and opted for the patient to go to the emergency room. She spends time with all her families until their concerns are addressed. To end this review I met at least 3 families, 2 who moved to Philadelphia and 1 who moved to Florida who still come to New York City to see Dr. Ward, enough said! read more

Just stumbled on an old email from my husband saying he'd checked out Cathy Ward's new practice and it looked promising. I was ten months pregnant then, and we just had a ten-month visit for our daughter this week that once again made us feel incredibly lucky to have found Dr. Ward! She is sharp as a tack and also warm and receptive to all our questions--and as a first-time parent I've had some real doozies. She is pro-breastfeeding in an encouraging, non-militant way. She is firm about the important stuff and assuring about the gray area stuff. She asks our permission before administering each and every vaccine. In the early months when our wee one was eating round the clock, she offered a spare room for me to nurse after our appointment. She revels in the joy of children, and our child obviously trusts her as much as we do. I only hope that when our daughter grows up, her healthcare providers continue to be as first-rate as Dr. Ward. read more

I made an appt on Monday for Wednesday for Dr. Ward to check my son's ears since they were hurting. They gave me 11:15 and I asked if I would be done by 12:15 because I had to pick my daughter up from school. The receptionist said absolutely since we were only going in for a sick visit. Well when I got there, they told me differently. They said she was running behind and there were at least 4 kids in front of us. How unprofessional! Don't promise something you can't deliver. Also, my son was prescribed an inhaler for his cough. I had a cough at the time and Dr. Ward said I could use his inhaler too. She said it was for sure safe for me to use even though I'm pregnant. Well, when I got home the box said it was Class C!!!! I asked my OB and she couldn't believe this Dr. said the inhaler was safe. The inhaler could've harmed the fetus!!! So bottom line, not only do they not keep appointments on time but the Dr. is incompetent and negligent. read more

We've been seeing Dr. Ward for the past 6 years since my first child was born. I just had baby #3 and I can't imagine seeing any other pediatrician. My experience with Dr. Ward is far and away the best relationship I have ever had with any doctor. WIth my children Dr. Ward is patient, warm, loving, and nurturing. She doesn't just cover the medical bases when she sees them, but asks them about school, their interests, their friends, even their beloved stuffed animals. She takes the time to get to know each child, and my kids love her for it. With parents she is professional and reassuring, never making me feel rushed or silly for worrying about something. Any New Yorker would know this is a rarity among doctors of any kind in the city. She has helped me all three times with breastfeeding, and time and again has gone out of her way to help each member of my family. She answers her phone at all times of night and is always so kind and knowledgable and helpful. When we have had medical issues arise with our kids, Dr. Ward has been thorough, persistent and caring, calling us the next day to check and make sure things are going okay. She is an incredible pediatrician. Three years ago we moved from the Upper West SIde to Brooklyn, but we kept Dr. Ward as our pediatrician. People are always surprised when I tell them we commute so far, but it is hands-down worth it to us to continue to be able to see Dr. Ward. read more

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT USING BIG APPLE PEDIATRICS!!! My wife and I are expecting our first child in less than a month and last week I called Big Apple pediatrics to set up an interview with Dr Ward. I clearly explained i wanted to have a meeting with her to discuss her views and philosophies, as we are with all the pediatricians we are considering, so we can make the right choice. I show up promptly for our meeting and was promptly asked to return in a half hour. I came back a half hour later and was told i didn't have an appointment in their system yet when walked in the first time the receptionist quoted my name to me for a 1pm appointment. The women then tells me it costs $100 to speak with Dr Ward for a prenatal meeting and am I willing to pay this. She then tells me I would have to make another appointment, oh and here is the part where I clinched my teeth so hard my jaw still hurts as I type, she says, "And did the person you spoke with tell you we are not accepting newborns at the moment". OMFG why would I be here if she said that. The place was a complete mess, three women sitting in an office space 4 feet by 4 feet all looking at each other dumbfounded. I took a half day at work for this. These people represent Dr Ward and these are the people you will spend most of your time dealing with. They would not even bring the Dr out to acknowledge this. The rating is a 0. Accidents happen like over booked or your appointment didn't get entered. This is incompetence, one person says i have no appointment another reads my information to me when i enter, i was not told there is a $100 charge i was told to come back 30 minutes later to be told didn't anyone tell you we aren't accepting newborns. What kind of Mickey mouse operation are you running. DO NOT PUT YOUR CHILD'S HEALTH IN THE HANDS OF THESE PEOPLE. THE DR SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HERSELF HIRING THIS STAFF. read more
