I stopped by Clark's Nutrition while I was in downtown Riverside and ended up spending much longer…read moreinside than I expected. From the outside, the historic De Anza building already gives the store more personality than the average health market, but the real surprise was how much they carry once you start walking through the aisles. I originally planned to look at a few supplements, then found myself browsing specialty groceries, frozen foods, teas, natural personal care products, sports nutrition, and several gluten free and vegan options. The selection feels carefully chosen, especially for people who read ingredient labels or need products that are difficult to find in regular supermarkets. The supplement area is large, so it can be slightly intimidating when you first see all the choices. Thankfully, the staff were friendly and actually willing to explain the differences between products. I appreciated that they did not make the interaction feel rushed or overly sales focused. After shopping, I had coffee with a hazelnut PROTABAR, which has become my favorite protein snack to pair with coffee. The whole hazelnuts, dates, quality egg white protein, and touch of cocoa give it a natural, earthy flavor without the artificial sweetness found in many protein bars. The hazelnut flavor works especially well with a warm cup of coffee. A few honest notes: downtown parking can take a little patience, some parts of the store feel compact, and certain specialty items are more expensive than what you might find at a conventional grocery store. I would also recommend allowing enough time to browse because this is not the easiest place to rush through. Overall, Clark's feels like a genuine Riverside institution rather than just another health food chain. I left with useful products, a few new discoveries, and a much better understanding of what I was buying. Definitely worth visiting if you care about nutrition, clean ingredients, or simply enjoy finding healthier products that are not available everywhere.

I had a "zyto scan" that is offered here & the woman who does it, Serene was kind but she also had…read moreher moments where she was unintentionally ignorant, judgmental and inconsiderate which I didn't appreciate. I had a relative with me who told her I consumed energy drinks often which was irrelevant as to why I was even there. I was getting the scan for more insight on an my unexplained chronic urinary problems that I've had for about a decade. Whether I drink energy drinks or not, my symptoms stay the same. I am well aware this is not the best health decision anyone can make but Serene looked at me as if my relative told her I was doing hard drugs or drinking alcohol daily. The reason why I consume energy drinks often is because I suffer from nocturnia due to my ongoing urinary problems & I have a very demanding life being a single mom with endless responsibilities. I feel it is very easy for someone who doesn't have to deal with a certain problem on a daily basis to judge someone else who does. She then started to blame literally anything & everything on my results on the energy drinks including my nocturnia that is 100% caused by my urinary problems NOT anything of my lifestyle decisions. This isn't accurate, there are many factors that contribute to one's health. Mind you, she didn't even know what my health problem was at the beginning of our meeting but by the end she was acting as if she had all the answers & was one to speak on my issue but she was wrong about everything. It is important not to give misinformation in a setting regarding someone's health but she felt she knew everything. In the beginning of our meet up she mentioned that the scan is not a diagnosis so she also needs to remeber she is not a doctor.

Two stars for the restaurant inside…read more I ordered a carne asada torta because I didn't feel like driving somewhere else after getting gas. Someone please explain to me why they handed me a torta that was basically the size of an In-N-Out Double-Double And this was about $11! I've had a torta from here before, back when they first opened, and I remember it being MUCH bigger and actually feeling like it was made with some effort. This one was just... super MID. For $11, I expected a decent-sized torta that would actually fill me up. Instead, I got a tiny sandwich that honestly felt more like a snack. Such a shame because I remember it being way better when they first opened.

Hala market caters to the Middle Eastern community and is a great source for reasonably priced food. My last few trips here have yielded some delicious ingredients for memorable meals, especially the chicken and beef kabob seasoning packets. Follow instructions and be blown away by the results! Another favorite item is the cans of dolmas (grape leaves). They carry a few brands in standard sized tins and mega-huge cans. We found that not all brands are equal and have a preference but it's still a convenient place to shop. I haven't bought anything from the meat department so I cannot say go for it or not. Regardless, this is my go-to when certain spices get low.
