Had a bad experience today Thursday 9/18/25 around 4:30pm. I went to pick up some baseball socks and a belt for my son. The first employee I asked had no clue where I could locate those items as a bundle. A supervisor with multiple tattoos approached the register and rudely asked what I needed. I asked her the same question and responded as if it was a bother to show me where it was located. She pointed over there. The item was not visible and hidden behind a lego display and boxes. If you want to buy any kind of amo or firearm related (an air riffle in our case) don't bother coming here. The cashier went to the back to ask for the manager, who apparently is the only person who can sell you these items (which is understandable) We could here the manager tell the cashier "not right now, tell them no". There was no valid explanation on why they denied us the sale, the manager never even came out herself nor did we even get a chance to tell her what we wanted to purchase. I'm sure this review will mean absolutely nothing since this location has had a plethora of 1 star reviews through the years and hasn't changed at all. I won't go into the horrible customer service because I've learned to find what I need at this location myself. What got me today was that I brought my 10 yo son there to get approx $100 in soccer gear. After we picked our stuff ourselves, sat on the floor to try on cleats (no seats by the youth shoes), my son told me that he had to pee real bad. We approached two employees standing on the sales floor talking. One was the manager. Both looked as if we were interrupting. I politely asked where the restroom was. The manager said, "we don't have a public restroom". What? Are you kidding. So they have a restroom just not for their customers? The only reason that store exists? Without customers there's no business at all. This is definitely a misstep on the manager's part. I've been to many Big 5 locations that provide a restroom for their customers. I'll never give my money to this location again. Too many options out there. Dicks sporting goods is worlds better than this dump. Kinda sad to be honest. Having said all of this I must say that the cashier Samantha was a major bright spot in an otherwise horrible experience. She was great. I stopped by here today looking to buy some new gym shoes. There were only a couple of sales people on the floor. I needed help in the shoe department and there was no one to be found. I went up to the front and had to interrupt the 2 salesgirls' conversation at the register to get some help in the shoe area. They made me feel like I was some awful customer for needing assistance when there was no one else around--just really snobby attitudes. The salesguy who helped was of absolutely no help. I asked him to help me find a certain size and he said there wasn't any. Then he disappeared again. I looked around for another pair and found one but was unable to find him again or anyone else on the floor for that matter. So, once again, I had to go up to the front and interrupt the 2 salesgirls' conversation at the register and AGAIN feel like I was putting them out for needing help. They call the salesguy again and he goes and helps some other people trying on shoes. After he walked right by me without even asking if I needed help when I clearly needed help, I asked him if he had the other shoes in another size, and he just glanced and walked in the back room. He came back out and said they did not have the ones I needed in my size and offered a pair that was twice the amount of what I was looking for. After that, I just walked out. If it wasn't for our own perseverance we'd have left empty handed. Like many parents we spend a good deal of money on a yearly basis for sporting equipment for our kids. It's a shame when the customer has to ask repeatedly for a little customer service: ready to spend several hundred dollars on baseball gear asking for the right shoes and batting helmet the staff showed little to no concern. The manager was in a foul mood and it reflected in her employees. After a frustrating hour we grabbed baseball pants and other things off the self-service rack and left. I've purchased from other Big 5 stores and find the lack of customer service to be consistent. I guess it's time to find another store and I'm willing to drive further to find a good one. read more
