i was so impressed with this location and it has a lot to do with their employer Maria. she was extremely helpful, attentive, and hard working. she helped me and went the extra mile to help with my purchases and really seemed to care a lot about it. i went on black friday weekend 11/29/20 around 5pm. i bought a trampoline and they helped me to my car with it. i then asked about a dart board, the manager went and grabbed it for me! THEN asked about another item, they were out of it. MARIA called their warehouse to check for another one and they didn't have it. she then called another store to have it transferred to this location. i couldn't believe how incredibly helpful she was. it was so refreshing leaving knowing someone cared enough to go all of those extra steps. thank you maria for being so awesome and making a future customer extremely happy coming back. read more

I bought a fishing license from them on a friday, I asked for it for Saturday, they issued it to me for the same day that I bought it. I get down to my fishing trip in San Pedro on friday night and they don't let me board the boat because I don't have a valid license. So I had to go online and purchase another license for Saturday. When I go back to the store and ask for a refund, they say it is my fault for not verifying the date before I left and won't refund me. Maybe I should have verified it but just maybe their clerk could be a little more competent. And then the manager is rude ànd a little bit belitlling when I want my money back. Bottom line, no refund, no future business from me. read more

I went to the store to return some soccer shoes I had been trying out. Before buying, I specifically asked the salesperson if returns were allowed, and I was assured there wouldn't be an issue. I was also told I could return the shoes at any location. When I went to a different store to return them, they outright refused, wouldn't even offer store credit, and treated me terribly. The staff, who appeared to be a security guard and possibly a manager, were rude and unhelpful. This was a horrible experience, and I do not recommend this Big 5 location. If you're looking for decent customer service, avoid this store and go to another one, or possible another city--anywhere but here. If I could rate my experience it'll be a negative 1. Improvements I'd recommend would be new staff or at least training on good customer service. read more

II called to make sure Big 5 had the rounds I wanted. I spoke with Leslie, the store manager and she confirmed. I called back because I wanted to make sure I brought in the correct documents to purchase the rounds. The person was not clear so I asked, "are you saying I need to bring in ........". She said yes. When I got there, Leslie the store manager told me I needed additional documents. I said, I verified what I needed over the phone. She said, she was told I called back and the other person was trying to explain it to me. I told Leslie what I was told. She said, "this is Monday, I want to have a good day, and I don't want to argue." (A comment I believe was rude. I was misinformed and now being blamed because of it) I was trying to have a good day. I called twice to get information so I would not be wasting my time, energy, and gas. It is frustrating to do what you are told you need to do and be mis informed. Leslie did not apologize for her employees poor communication and she did not say she will provide the employee with additional training so the miscommunication does not occur with other customers. Leslie displayed poor customer service and poor management. I gave her 1 star. read more

I was going to spend about $200 there when my three year old was doing the potty dance. The manager refused to let my child use the restroom. Then when I went to return power bait I was told I can only return it with my receipt and not the card I used when I bought it. Even though I've made a return using my card before. Lazy and rude employees. I don't think anyone should give them business. They don't deserve it. read more

I was greeted as soon as I arrived at this Apple Valley store by Leslie. I had just spoke to Micahl on the phone to explain my return. Micahl was there at the register as well. I was returning and rebuying shoes that were being shipped from the Orange store. Leslie handled the transaction. Thank you girls for being polite and patient. read more

Very nice had an issue with a purchase. Had to call customer service. But they did resolve. So thank you. Have great prices

Had questions about ammunition. Manager Leslie is rude and incompetent and could care less. She NEVER apologized for her employee who has no clue about the laws regarding ammunition. She is a terrible manager and she could care less about the mistakes made that cost me time, gas, and wear and tear on my car. Fire Leslie and at least get management who know their job and care about the company. read more

Best place for Futbol stuff, balls, wraps, Mtape, etc. also hidden gem for trading card boxes which is nice!

Employees are extremely rude. "Masks are required" but there's absolutely no one wearing a mask.employee herself wasn't even wearing a mask

It's nice to have a sport specialty store in your town when your favorite department store doesn't have the equipment, apparel, or supplies that only a store like Big 5 Sporting Goods would sell. Advertised sale items are always in stock but costumer service is sometimes hit and miss. read more

Big 5 Sporting Goods - Sporting Goods Near Me - Apple Valley, California

Just went into Big 5 to look at guns. My boyfriend and I walked in, and the manager and cashier were talking and laughing and barely acknowledged us. We stood at the gun counter for 10 minutes without getting any assistance while the manager continued her conversation. We were the only two customers in there until their lack of customer service made us decided to go elsewhere for firearm purchases. The weird part is, since there was no one else in the store, you'd think they would want to make sales, especially on something as pricey as guns. read more

Overview: Surprisingly friendly staff in a well organized, clean store. Service: I have never been treated this nicely at a Big 5 store. I was greeted upon entrance and asked if I needed help as I was looking aimlessly around for the tennis section. Tennis section: I needed a new grip, and I had enough to choose from! Parking: Plenty in the private lot up front. read more

3rd time that in the last 3 weeks and so far I have walked out empty handed every time. Looking for baseball stuff and they never have what I need. Simple stuff like Jersey, belts and black socks. Nope not here . it will be awhile before I return. Oh yeah poor customer service too. Several months later tried another time. We bought 2 pair of cleats and wanted to purchase 2 baseball helmets but they were unwilling to help us get the helmets off the top self. They didn't care when I explained that they could have sold a couple helmets but they just smiled and rang up our cleats. Just really poor customer service. read more

This is usually my go to Big 5 Sporting Goods store, considering it's close to my house. I usually buy my fishing gear, ammo, and fishing license from this Big 5. Customer service is always great, however on one particular occasion, when shopping around for my son's little league equipment, there was an issue with an online coupon. John was able to assist me immediately! He took the time to make sure my discount was applied correctly. Great job guys, keep it up!! read more

They have some good sale pricing on hiking boots I bought once. They are a nice size store for pretty much all your outdoor needs.

Called and asked if they had a item in stock and they said yeah i asked them to hold it and gave them my name and they said ok. when i get here they don't have it. mind you I drove 45 min extra just to go pick it up and all they can do is order me one and it will take a week fuck that. read more

We needed to exchange some shoes that we purchase in the wrong size and they quickly and kindly help locate the correct size at their victorville location. Awesome customer service, kind and friendly staff! Thank you! read more

The manager here is a good manager. Stopped in the other day and was greeted by Bianca from the VV store! She remembered the wife and I. Had a real nice experience with her at the other store and am happy she is here at our "more local" store. I'll be coming in to get my sporting goods goodies, just because she is there!! Good place to visit for your sporting goods needs. Another thing I like is that they don't constantly bother you and ask if you need help! UPDATE: went in last night for another firearm purchase. As usual, friendly, helpful service. Good folks there. Thanks for always being welcoming! read more

Good to see the other positive reviews, however, we were just in this store and while it was clean and seemed well organized, the gentleman(?) clerk acted as though he just couldn't be bothered helping us. We asked where a specific item was, he just pointed and then didn't even move so we couldn't get past him. Then asked if there was a bench somewhere that we could sit to try out our item and he said no... we asked if the dressing room had a bench; he said "oh, yeah" and had someone else come over to unlock it. He evidently didn't want to be there. We'll take our business elsewhere. read more

I bought a tennis racket for a great price the other day and had only one small issue, it took 5 minutes to bring the cover for the racket from the stockroom. Not a big deal. Sure beats driving to the Big 5 in Victorville. read more

place just sucks. employees don't give a crap, there's never more than one person in shoes going crazy, yet 4 people at the register, this last time i was literally looking in the case at airsoft pistols and the employee told me "all the guns are hanging on that rack over there!" and proceeded to walk away. Well THANKS for giving me information i didn't ask for!!! i guess i don't want to touch, feel and hold a product before i spend money on it. I literally had to break up a 4 person meeting at the registers to get something out of the case. lame. suck. horrible. bad. grumpy. read more

The manager was excellent. They elliptical we bought was a nightmare. Had to take the first one back (after assembling 3/4 of it). Got a new one. A good portion of the screws had no threads. The only saving grace was how nice and willing to help us out they were. Edwin, the manager was very helpful and nice. read more

Great place, great people, great time. Everything was a lot cheaper than I expected. A lot better than dicks prices and better staffed. Easy and close parking. Huge store with a lot of product to choose from. Great customer service. read more

This place is overpriced I wanted to get a daisy model 880 and I noticed at Walmart it's 35 dollars so I thought it would be the same at big 5 but apparently here it 80 dollars. That is the biggest rip off, at Walmart I could literally get two pellet guns for the price of one . read more

We always try to give big five business as we use to give valley sporting good in Apple valley our business before they closed down around the big opening of dicks sporting goods. It's very hard to get customer service and we've tried again and again and sometimes getting mediocre to poor service. On previous returns that we have done we have not had a receipt or packaging but did have our credit card that we used and the accommodated us by looking it up for an exchange or store credit. Tonight however the manager Danni, refused to look it up. When speaking with my husband he told her they've done that twice before. She just said "well, they shouldn't have, you can call customer service tomorrow." Wow. We will be supporting Dicks Sporting Goods from now on. read more

Costumer services is great! Over all the store is so small and cramped everything everywhere but it's only cuz they are in a compact size store! read more

Been here many many times before it just never occurred to me to yelp about it haha I'm so used to just food places retail didn't really cross my mind. Any who, this store is great and has a good selection of goods, their staff is friendly and always helpful. I do about 90% of my sporting good purchased here especially since I am part of their E-team. You just sign up for emails and they send u exclusive sales and coupons (which to me is worth it). Only down side in my opinion is the tent selection, not very big but they have a couple different styles and brands. read more

Prices were good, but the customer service in the store was little to none. With 4 employees in the store and being passed by 2 of them, it wasn't until 15 mins of looking in one area before anyone asked if we needed anything. After we told the lady that we needed help, she gave us minimum information and left. There was another customer in the store that got more help, seemed like she was an off duty employee with her mother though. That chatted about different topics, most topics not of the store. Horrible customer service. We weren't even acknowledged at the checkout counter. Just rang up out stuff, we paid, then she said "here's your receipt!" read more

Overall, employees were helpful. I didn't appreciate the manager Leslie telling me "next time show your coupon before this happens because it would be a lot easier". This is because my husband was already paying and was was on the other side of counter browsing and I said I have a coupon to use. There was no line, manager just probably just keyed in her code and cashier did the refund..took no more than 4 min out of their time read more

I was at store 471 in Susanville CA. Dylan in the shoe department was excellent. He had incredible smarts in customer relations. It made my day. He went out of his way to find the right shoes for me. read more

Came when I got off work to meet a friend she was waiting 35 minutes while it looked like other people were just standing and talking, woman at the guns was rude didn't acknowledge any of the other people waiting and didn't call for help until she rang up her customer while noticing people waiting for her. I personally have never been to this big 5 but I have two retail jobs working customer service and know that's totally unacceptable. McDonald's has better customer service apparently. read more

I went to get some new shoes because earlier in the week a sales clerk said they got a new shipment in on Fridays. When I checked earlier in the week they didn't have my size and the sales person seemed like she didn't want to check in the back. After I asked she walked in the back and walked right back out. So when I went in on Friday the guy (I wish I knew his name) greeted me, asked if I needed help, told me he thought that was all they had but offered to check in the back, then he offered to check the other store. That was great customer service! I didn't have to ask him to check the back, he offered. I didn't ask him to check the other store, he offered. He even offered to order it and told me it'll be in in a few weeks. That was super nice of him and him alone would make me come back. Very helpful! read more

This is why I shop at Dicks!!! My 5 year has just started football and up until now I have done all our shopping at Dick's. I purchased a white Under Armor shirt for my son, and after brining it home we noticed it was dirty in several spots. I took it in to exchange it and the staff was EXTREAMLY rude. After explaining it was dirty and pointing out the flaws, the sales rep stated "are you sure you just didn't wear it?". What a joke. To top things off, she then called over the Manager who proceeded to check the receipt under the fraud light. So I guess I am not only a liar but a fraud as well. Obviously all too much of their attention was spent on me (a 6'4" 350 lb Hispanic male) in front of them to concern themselves with putting anyone else through the ringer. Because another customer (average sized white male) brought in his return with no tags and no receipt and received full credit. How ridiculous. With Dick's in town, Big 5 can't afford to treat their customers like crap. read more
