The people who work at Huber Bräu are the sweetest people…read more
I wish I had gotten the name of our hostess because she had a kindness that radiated from her, especially in her smile. That and it only magnified when she spoke English (of which we were forever grateful because my companion didn't remember much of his German and I don't speak German at all).
I forget how we found this place. I believe it was on Google and because it was near our Airbnb. The location was interesting because they had free parking and the restaurant itself is on the top floor, which you can get to by either stairs or elevator.
I have no idea if they take reservations or not, but we walked in and waited for less than half an hour. Originally we were quoted half an hour, but it fortunately was less than that. We ended up going to the bar where we had beer. I am usually quite picky with beer, but whatever I had that day was quite refreshing. I found it light and the type of drink that not only perfectly accompanied the meal, but it wound up augmenting its flavors.
The bar is also where waitresses get the food to deliver to patrons. We saw so many foods come out and we took photos, fearing we wouldn't be able to order in English. Turns out that the menu they have is trilingual. It's in German, Italian, and English. Nevertheless, our hostess (who was also our waitress) was heavily amused by this and I assume grateful as she struggled with her English, but hey, her English was sheer perfection compared to our nonexistent German.
My companion had a steak and potatoes dish, while I had chicken soup and a pork schnitzel with potatoes. Let me tell you that the chicken soup was to die for and my companion even had some of it. If I'm frank, he finished my leftovers. That soup was that good. The pork schnitzel, too, was freshly fried and the seasonings were on par. This with the herbed potatoes felt so comforting, as if a warm embrace was enveloping me.
The steak and potatoes, likewise, were a hit. I tried a bite of the steak and it was tasty, but I'm happy I didn't order it. The sauce felt heavy and I had a cold at the time. What I ordered was perfect, but if I hadn't been sick, those steak and potatoes would have been mine. The most surprising thing about this restaurant though is that it's attached to a brewery. I believe they do tours, but we weren't able to find out. It was during the holidays, the place was packed, and well, it seems both locals and tourists alike know about Huber Bräu. They treat you so well at this restaurant and the food was easily one of my more memorable meals this past trip to Europe. Did I mention the food was economical and didn't feel leave me in a food coma? Sigh... I miss this place.
