Was excited for the pork knuckle. It came out a little dry, and I suspect it was reheated via frying as it came out a little too dry and crispy but I get it. They're not making these to order. I love Bierhaus NYC! We've visited here twice, both times after touring the UN. It's a great place to get a meal or a snack with a good beer as you chat about past, present, and future domestic and foreign policy. My favorite meals on the menu are the schnitzels. The jägerschnitzel was huge, a great entree to share, and came with potato salad, cucumber salad, and warm red cabbage salad. We paired it with our favorite beers and were not disappointed. The beer hall is perfect for groups, large and small. There are also TVs available to watch the key games of the day. So crestfallen was I that when the kind server asked me how I liked everything, I complained about the schnitzel - dried out, flavorless. I stopped there because I didn't want to sound like a crank. But she said "let's see what we can do" and came back with my "new bill" - minus the $22 schnitzel! She asked how everything was now! I threw up my hands - "funny you should ask - I hated everything!" We both laughed. The Frikadellen were German meatballs and not bad. Not Danish Frikadeller but good. Even though we were one of seven people, it took ages to order and then even longer to get our bill. I had.fantastic Beer pretzel with mustard and cheese sauce, not combined, and a Bock beer. The pretzel was perfect and the beer was outstanding. Perfect head and hefty mug. It was very loud to the point where the music and the ambient noise makes it almost impossible to have a conversation. We sat in middle to try and get away from the speakers, but that didn't help. We really enjoyed this spacious Bavarian beer hall with the German beer and food to go with it. We loved the cold original Hofbraus, my favorite German beer. Kasekrainer with sauerkraut and potato salad was fantastic, as was the curry wurst and the side of cumber salad. Yummy. Our server was quick and friendly and did a tremendous job. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. In addition to the large tables and benches throughout, there is a small enclosed balcony that offers seating and some smaller tables throughout the restaurant. It can get quite loud, but we enjoyed the 80s playlist and the chatter of people enjoying themselves. There is a flight of stairs to enter that looks more intimidating than it is, so be aware. My first time in NY and at this place - LOVED IT! It was so good so I came back there a day later :) PROPER size beer glasses (1L) and PROPER beer - especially the HB Lager and Dunkel. I planned a retirement party here on a Friday afternoon with about 30 people or so. We had 3 tables reserved and a dedicated server, Daniel, he was fantastic and attentive. My drink pace was nice considering the amount of people we had. Everyone really enjoyed their beers I ordered a German margarita, it was nice, not much different than the usual ones. Then I tried the Jagerita and that was amazing. I was pleasantly impressed by that drink and enjoyed 3 of them. We also ordered a few pretzels with cheese and mustard. The bar area is alright nothing special. They really only sell one kind of beer and light versions of it too. Bierhaus is a greattttt time. The wooden tables and wooden accents paired with boot-shaped glasses really add to the authenticity of this place. I cannot even fathom the possibility of being bored at Bierhaus with multiple sports games playing at the same time as a live band. I was so surprised I was able to book for a party of 10 the same day, as it is a spot in nyc. The vibes were excellent and so was the food! My favorite had to have been the chicken sliders. They were so juicy and flavorfully coated in buffalo sauce. I can also say the same about the sausage and heard my friends rave about the shredded cabbage and cucumber salad multiple times throughout the night. Because I was saving my appetite for Bierhaus all day, I was so glad that the waiters were really efficient with taking orders and getting the food out quickly. My only critiques are that I wish the pretzels came with more beer cheese and that the NA drinks weren't so overpriced. Despite it being the city, I still think $16 is a lot for a non-alcoholic mule. read more

You go in and think you found a German Beer Haus. What you found is a German style beer pub that has some food to offer. It has been around for years. You climb the stairs and find yourself that is not what you would see walking in to the beer halls in Berlin. This is a combination of German, Beer, Food and a gathering of people getting together to talk and drink. We went in expecting the Haus and found a beer bar with large tables and people talking with a band was playing, or trying to with all the people talking. Once we got a table that we were told to leave by 8pm since another couple booked it for that time, we sat down and decided what to try. We ended up with a Jagerschnitzel (which is a pork schnitzel), along with warm potato salad, red cabbage and cucumber salad. This warm and what to expect even if the pork was a bit stiff. We also had a reuben sandwich we ordered, The rye bread was nice. The reuben was a good size and perfect to enjoy. It was served with potato chips made in the back. Along with this we had a nice larger stein for beer to enjoy with it. The beer was good. A little cold since int he US we like our beer cold and not at room temperature as they drink in Germany. Took a little adjusting to this, but not a problem. For dessert we had a strudel and ice cream. This was good by itself. It was warm and fresh. Ideal way to end the meal. Overall, it is not a bad place to be. The food was fine. The staff was nice. The atmosphere was not a traditional German Beer Hall you have in Berlin. Anyway, we were out of their by 8pm for the next people to sit at the table we sat at. Danke. PS....The guy throwing up at the bar as we left and his friend was down the stair was a nice touch. Came here and got my Germany. -classic Schweinshaxe (pork shank): so good and well made. Tender and juicy. -Jager schnitzel: Decent. The sauce is interesting and vaguely nostalgic. Perhaps sauce on the side would be better. Would try a different schnitzel next time. -Kasespaetzle: smoky and melt in the mouth cheesy. Excellent. Almost tasted like there was bacon on it even though the topping was declined. Would get again but also want to try the regular spaetzle next time. The sides that came with the entrees: sauerkraut was too sweet (I thought it was supposed to be sour?), red cabbage was still sweet but less, strange but it grew on me. The portions were a little small for the price, but it's a bar in NYC so you can't have high expectations. However, the ambiance was frustrating during our visit due to a kids' birthday party with about 10+ children running around while their parents treated the space like a daycare. The staff made efforts to encourage the parents to keep the kids under control, but unfortunately, it didn't make much of a difference. Under different circumstances, I think this could be a very enjoyable spot. The food was hit or miss--the large pretzel was phenomenal, probably the best I've ever had, but the Spätzle was dry and underwhelming. A really great place for a large group. Tons of space with long tables and benches. Food is solid and came out fast. Upstairs from Wendy's, be careful with going upstairs and down the stairs when you are intoxicated!! We came here for a late lunch (around 1:30 pm) on Sunday afternoon and the place was surprisingly empty. Only a few customers but we are not complaining. The waitress was good and took our order right away. The beer is great, love all of the variety of German beers! Wheat, dunkel, dunkel Weis, Keller, Pilsner, love it!!! It's hard to choose a favorite because they are all delicious. I do love the dunkel Weis tho! Our food was delicious. We had classic schnitzel, meatball appetizer, mushroom truffle flatbread, bacon flatbread, schnitzel with mushroom sauce, and buffalo cauliflower appetizer. The Buffalo cauliflower was a bit too spicy to eat a whole plate, so best to share. Will definitely come back here next time we visit NYC! read more

My partner is German he really loved this place. The ambiance and vibes are very chill, the restaurant is upstairs and has long tables that I guess are meant to allow more of a bar type feel. There's also balcony seating. All the food was really good. You should try the beer flight it lets you taste all their house beers. Make sure you get that with the Bierhaus Pretzel it makes for a great combo. We had the Käsespätzle which is basically a German "mac & cheese" with the Classic schnitzel. I found myself at Bierhaus the other day to celebrate a colleague's birthday. I periodically work in the area and am slowly making my way through the eateries in the vicinity, but this spot was new for me. I normally don't go out of my way for German food or beer gardens since I'm not the biggest beer drinker, however this place looked fun so I got excited to check them out. It's funny because I must have passed this place at least a dozen times and never really noticed it - silly me. Anyway, there's a nice sign letting you know you arrived, and upon entry you're immediately greeted by a staircase leading you up to the restaurant. The space is large and done up nicely - festive decorations to match the theme of the place, long communal tables as expected in a beer garden, and servers in lederhosen to match the feel of the aesthetics. The music selection, however, was a little weird - it was more contemporary mainstream music which kinda took away from the atmosphere a bit. It was not crowded when we arrived, and had our pick to a number of tables. The menu had typical German fare - a selection of wursts, schnitzels, apps, and a few extras like burgers, sandwiches, and more American dishes. We decided to start with the wurst sampler; this came with five different kind of wursts, red and white sauerkraut, potato salad, and mustard. This was good - the wursts were prepared nicely and I enjoyed the different varieties. They all had good flavor and the krauts/mustard were good complements. I decided to keep the wurst party going and ordered chicken bratwurst for my main. This was kind of an extension of the app, where it contained two links, sauerkraut, mustard, and potato salad. It was presented nicely and was really the perfect lunch-size portion; the wursts were full of flavor without being too salty, and the sides tasted really fresh. Service was great, everyone was super friendly and the food came out at a good pace. Overall, I had a good first experience at Bierhaus - I cannot speak on their beer, but this seems like a fun place and I would return if given the opportunity. read more

Stopped into Bierhaus NYC while staying nearby by the UN. It was an easy walk over to 3rd ave. You definitely can't miss Bierhaus perched atop the Wendy's and the Dunkin' Donuts. Climb the stairs up (I didn't see an elevator so I'm not sure it's handicap accessible) and you're in the cutest little beer hall you've ever seen. It was all done up for Oktoberfest while I was there at the end of September (maybe it always is, I'm not sure). The bar was busy but the dining room and outside dining area were pretty empty. I found a server and she said that I could sit anywhere I liked until 4:30 p.m. then the whole place was reserved for Oktoberfest events. It was just after 3:00 so I didn't anticipate that being a problem. I sat down and a properly-attired server came and took my order. I started with 1 Lt of their Hofbraus Hefe Weizen. Good serving seize for sure. The beer was cold and I enjoyed that typical wheat bier flavor. For my meal: The Haus Dog. This 10" (yes, 10 inches) hot dog was smothered in cheese, relish, sauerkraut, their bier haus sauce, and bacon. To be honest, the main things I tasted were cheese and relish. The relish had a sweetness to it that I didn't think worked well with the rest of the dog. That being said, everybite had tons of flavor so it wasn't overpowering. The dog was served with chips that came with beer cheese and mustard. I much preferred the mustard. I enjoyed the ambiance of the place and started so the the Oktoberfest revelers begin to arrive. My server was great and I closed out so she could leave before all the festivities began. Bierhaus NYC was a fun experience. Up a steep staircase is probably NYC's best known German beer hall. We were there shortly after it opened at noon. On the weekend they have brunch specials which include a beer of your choice (pictured). I went in expecting to have a beer with brunch, but when I saw Glühwein, I was sold. This was a bit pricy in comparison to the other drinks, but it was a seasonal special. I also ordered the soup and sandwich combo. The tomato bisque could have been warmer, but it served as a great dipping sauce for my pretzel/based grilled cheese sandwich. The brunch special included a burger with a fried egg and a beer for $25. We ordered some Brussel sprouts to split. There was enough to be easily shared by a table of 6. There were sliced hazelnuts and apple slices mixed in. I could eat this as a main. It was so tasty! The benefit of being there so early is that you could spread out as much as you want and have an intimate lunch or sit by others and start up a conversation. The entire room is open, making it a perfect scene for people watching. I also really appreciated the benches. This isn't picnic table seating where you have to hike your legs over to settle in or get out. This has traditional long benches and a long table that is light enough for you to slide out to get in. I think this space would be great to bring a group, but note that it is not super accessible for those needing mobility accommodations. read more

Rather than write long winded review, I'll just say the beer wasn't as good as I had hoped, the pork wiener schnitzel was too thin and overcooked, the desserts tasted like it came frozen from the grocery store and then poorly reheated.
