My husband and I enjoy going to Bida's. The food and service are top notch and we love supporting Lafayette County businesses.

However over the last 6 months and 5-6 visits the service has been lacking a sense of intuitiveness. It has felt a lot more like someone is taking our order only and responds with a "No I'm sorry we don't do that.." first response even with simple side swaps or newly printed table options showing it is an option. Questions around HH, dinner menu items &/or other specials, seems limited to none. On all 3 of the last visits someone in our party has had to point out menu/special changes to the service staff they were unaware of on the printed hand out materials. My last visit was on New Years Day and the level of inconsistent food & service quality was apparent. I don't think this is a server/staff issue but more of a communication breakdown between leadership and their teams. The food was decent/average, service (even for being slow) was ok but still lacked in new menu knowledge & available presence. However as a positive the newer brunch options looked great especially for New Year's Day. It would have been nice if there was more flexibility with New Year's Day food, drink options &/or sides however the fact they were open for brunch after a holiday was really appreciated. However, the lack of initiative to even say let me go and check on that didn't seem to exist. This was even evident when each time we politely pointed out the request was stated as a standard option on either the table print outs & menus. All 3 servers came back with an oh yeah I guess I didn't know about that response after they had already told us "no" that's not a possibility without checking. I will reiterate that I do love this organization & place. Because of this appreciation I have brought several new customers and new to KC area people into the Martin City just for this experience. However after this recent inconsistency, higher prices and average food quality change, I have a few other great local options I'll be looking at first.

I usually come here for dim sum, and it is upsetting for me to say that my husband and I should've chose somewhere else to eat for dinner. For dinner, we ordered fried rice and chow fun. Those two main entrées were okay. You can't really mess up those two fillers at an Asian restaurant. We ordered scallion pancakes- they came out soggy and soft. Not even crispy like how they usually are. The flavor wasn't there either. If I wanted microwaved scallion pancakes, then I would've bought them from the store and made them myself. My husband ordered the short ribs- they were bland and tough like rubber. It had a funky taste to it that he couldn't describe and he had to force himself to swallow it because he didn't want food to go to waste. I ordered the chicken feet- this is one of dim sum's signature dishes and I am so upset I didn't even get to enjoy one of the dishes I always order. It was dry and the flavor wasn't there. The service was fantastic. They checked in on us and made sure our water was filled. The timing of the food coming in and out was fine. The ambiance was inviting. There was a sense of urgency and I appreciated that.

I made a reservation in advance which seemed wise in retrospect since the restaurant was quite busy at 7pm. The staff reached out before the reservation to ask about the details of our special celebration. When we showed up they had a nice placard and gave us champagne to help us celebrate! It was a nice gesture by the staff. Our server Adam was too notch, very professional and knowledgeable of the menu. He really made our experience very enjoyable. He even prepared some of our drinks at our table with one hand! Cool guy. Our food was phenomenal, the Chilean Sea Bass was prepared nicely and seasoned lightly with blackend like seasoning. I was surprised at the small portion sizes that came with our dishes. So definitely get the share size sides. The carrot cake dessert was also pretty incredible, very dense and flavor was not so intense. The vibe here is definitely upscale, although their bar had a couple large TVs. Definitely get a reservation and be prepared to shell out some serious bucks for your meal

When you walk in, you're greeted by a reception desk in a cozy room with a beautiful display of wine and comfy chairs in the waiting area. The vibes are immediately warm, cozy, and welcoming. Upon seating, the dining room is decorated beautifully and the low lighting keeps the ambiance going throughout the meal. I would highly recommend ordering the Bubbles & Berries to drink. Not only is it a bubbling beauty, it tastes just as wonderful! This drink alone is an experience and such a fun way to start. For appetizers, I would highly highly recommend the Ahi Tuna Tartare and the Hamachi Crudo. Other wonderful starters are the Warm Bread Service and a sushi roll (we went with the Spicy Tuna). For dinner, recently, I had the Ahi Tuna and the Chilean Sea Bass. Both were wonderful, but my favorite was definitely the Sea Bass. It is so rich and delicious. Those I was with ordered the Sea Scallops (looked incredible), Filets (with different preparations - Maytag Blue Cheese Crust and Black Truffle Butter), and sides of Bacon Creamed Spinach and Jalapeño Au Gratin (all of which I heard were divine). The servers are so kind and knowledgeable. If you have dietary restrictions - not to worry! The servers start the meal asking if there are any they should be aware of and are mindful of this. I've always been too full to try a dessert, but it's on my list to try next time I go! If you're looking for an upscale dining experience for a date night, dinner with friends, a business meal, or family in town - this is your go to! I can't recommend it enough!

We went for later lunch and this place was crowded with diners, always a good sign. The lunch restaurant week menu really intrigued me because it was one of the 3 course options for $20. First course- luscious butternut squash soup One of my all time favorite soups and this one didn't disappoint, I love the autumnal flavors of this soup. The nuttiness shined through the silky smooth soup filled with the richness of cream. It was seasoned wonderfully balancing the inherent sweetness with the right amount of salt and herbs. I would drink this soup up by the gallon. Second course- Classic Chicken Picatta I loved how light this dish was, instead of being breaded it was tender moist chicken, yes it may look a little anemic but it wasn't lacking flavor. The bright lemon caper sauce brought like to the chicken. The abundance of capers made me so happy, they provided a tangy briny profile. The smooth as butter mashed potatoes just soaked up that succulent sauce and every bite had such a luscious mouth feel. This was an elevated comfort dish. Dessert- crème brûlée Now I'm not a dessert girl so I'm not a crème brûlée connoisseur but, it had a nice crackly sugar shell with a decadent eggy custard. The ripe berries were simple but added freshness to richness of the custard.

Odd. We appreciated the heads up however, I feel like they were really wanting us to turn around and leave as the restaurant seemed overwhelmed. We stayed as it was too late in day to go elsewhere. The kitchen was indeed backed up, no silverware provided had to ask, and our server said to order right away if we wanted to get our food. They were out of some items. Took 45 minutes for food to arrive. However, the staff was apologetic, even though it took awhile to be served the meal itself was acceptable --the pork chop, surf and turf, braised meat, and pizza were all hits. Server had to confirm with kitchen if they were still serving dessert, we were able to order. The desserts consisted of banana coconut pie which basically pudding & bananas in a bowl, tiramisu, and Keylime, all were just okay not worth $. The patio is beautiful and perfect for a nice day. It is very expensive, so we'll save it for special personal occasions not a national holiday/special day, but the food quality makes it worth a return visit.
