Ten years ago I went with my running coach to every bike shop in Wichita to try and find the perfect cross training bike. This was one of the first places we stopped and the experience here (and the bike) stuck with me the rest of the day. At the end of the long journey I bought my first bike here. Ten years later, I bought a Trek Checkpoint from a friend so I could start doing some gravel riding. Last week Patrick helped me get the bike fit, pick out a sweet pair of clipless shoes, teach me how to use the clipless shoes, and how to clean the bike properly for optimal bike performance. Patrick was great to work with. What also impressed me more was his ability to multitask. Between assisting me, he was able to greet, socialize, and take care of several other customers. The experience reminded me of a car dealership. They wanted me to pay $110 extra for a tune-up for a a brand new bike. Plus it was mandatory that i pay double for a "safety inspection" Then made it sound like they couldn't work on it If I didn't. (I went in for a simple tire tube replacement. ) When I explained i just dont have that much to spend they made me feel dumb, or like an a-hole, for not buying the extra unnecessary stuff. (I still had to pay for the safety inspection.) Wtf? These guys OBVIOUSLY work on some kind of commission or quota system. Maybe it is because I dressed nice going in there and they were sure I had the money to burn. Idk. I see nice posts about this place, but I would wager its staged. I only wanted a tube replacement. They said they had it in stock. 2 days later I show up and its barley been worked on. (It's just a tube mind you). They say come back. I do. Then they sat they DONT have the part so they just patched it. I explained that I didn't request that,nor did anyone call me in the interim to ask. The guy said, ,well its done. Really? To add insult, i get out the door (paying for it service i didn't want) and the tire goes flat 4 blocks Away. I call and call and call and finally email and the manager or owner calls me and spends like 25 mins to convince me this is my fault. Why would I be the only one treated that way? Unlikely..... More likely is that they scam ppl daily, like a car dealer charges extra for 'under coating'. There are only a couple of places in town to get your bike fixed or to buy a quality one. And with online purchases taking off these guys are scrambling to stay afloat. So it makes sense they are pressed to over price and charge for unnecessary work. But they can't have MY money!! Heed this or not. But its the truth.... Update since I posted this: Bike Xchange- I was willing to work with you until I saw your response here. Your account of what transpired is inaccurate, and is just further evidence that you are not truthful. Bottom line is I asked for a tube replacement. I payed for a tube replacement. At the very last moment I was told "oh yeah, BTW, even though we said we have your tube and can perform the service, we don't so we just patched it. Patched it for $130. Something i was capable of doing myself as i explained when I originally came in. And the patch held a whole 18 minutes after leaving the store. Plus the brakes are grossly misaligned now that I couldn't ride it any real distance even if your patch worked. Further, I explained at my original phone call and at drop off and when you pressed the extra $110 and when I picked it up that I have put less then 10 miles on this brand new bike. So trying to say all bikes over 100 miles get recommended a tune-up just shows your shadyness. I was ready to let this go and eat the money you scammed from me. But your unwillingness to take responsibility has me thinking there is no way I can ever trust your store. I honestly hope you don't do this to anyone else going forward. ​ read more

I was in a bad wreck, and initially their service department took care of me with the replacement parts, which I appreciated. I picked up my bike and the shifting wasn't working right, so I brought it back and left it with them for a week to diagnose and correct. When I picked it up and test rode it, shifting was not improved. I brought it back. They checked it and I test rode again, same day, still no improvement. They said they test rode it and that it was "shifting good enough" and that if I wanted crisp shifting I would need an electronic drivetrain, which is silly to say since this bike was shifting great before the wreck, and their Package 3 Pro Rebuild says "Fine tune and perfect your shifting." I asked for them to check it again, which they did, also same day. I rode it home with still no noticeable improvement in the shifting. I took it to Bicycle Pedaler in town to see if they could diagnose and resolve it. They determined the replacement cable was kinked, causing the issue, along with finding other adjustments that were not done correctly. I asked Bike X-Change to reimburse me for the cost of the other shop fixing their incorrect repair work and was told no because "I should have brought it back to them" even after giving them 4 chances to fix the issue. read more

After buying a new bike, the gears started skipping on me with less than 100 total miles on the bike. Bicycle X-Change adjusted the bike twice and could not fix the problem. So, they suggested that I purchase a new chain. Ridiculous! I took the bike to another bike shop and they charged me $9 to fix it (minor adjustment) now the gears do not slip and the bike works perfectly. I will never return to Bicycle X-Change. read more

Monday 1/4/21 My father dropped off two bikes to be shipped from the Douglass location to my home in California. The mechanic in the shop was very helpful in explaining the process being that they partner with BikeFlights and the carrier UPS when I called him. Thursday 1/7/21 I created a BIkeFlights account and paid for the two bikes to be shipped last night and this morning I called Bicycle X-Change to confirm the email address and then I sent the labels to them. Bikes should ship tomorrow as long as they get the labels on the boxes. Monday 1/11/21 UPS says shipment has been rescheduled to be picked up for today. A little confused, but not concerned. Tuesday 1/12/21 UPS says shipment has been rescheduled again. Now I am concerned. After contacting the same helpful mechanic he mentions that he can't get in to print the labels as only managers can complete this task. He is helpful and said I would get a follow-up call once this is completed. I resent the labels again just in case. This simple labeling step requires Bicycle X-Change to print the label from their email so UPS can come pick it up. I'm a little concerned given the cost we paid Bicycle X-Change to package the bikes why this step has taken 5 days. I'll be happy to update this review upon completion of the shipment, but am not as thrilled with Bicycle X-Change as I was. With one phone call Bicycle Exchange lost a $4K sale! My wife and I were ready to make our purchase decision for a bike and indoor trainers so we made a phone call to BX to verify some numbers before we made the hour drive. Patrick was not in so Mike spoke with us. He seemed annoyed with our questions from the get-go, spoke over us and was dismissive. Instead of listening and asking for clarification he made assumptions and was unapologetic for it. Sorry Patrick, you did every thing right and you're the only reason I wont drop the rating down to 2 stars, but that 5 minute phone call with Mike just undid everything you had set up. My mom nicely offered to drop my bike off at the Douglas location. She explained about the bike and was following the people's directions in what to do next, the first guy said they didn't work on the bike. The next guy said well let the team look at it and finally the first guy was offended by that and their special schedule and started ordering folks around to not help her. The first guy was Patrick from the videos. The other guys in the shop tried to help but he wasn't having it. Meanwhile my mom had to stand their and listen to him grouse making her feel incredibly anxious and uncomfortable . When she told him she was uncomfortable, he didn't care. She finally just asked to pack up the bike and leave. I have many friends and BMX groups that get their bikes repaired and whatnot at this location. But I will not be returning, not sending family and Never recommending them to anyone else. They are not good people, they think a lot of themselves and have lost my business and I hope all of my friends and partners business forever. It's sad because we always frequent small business, but I'm sure there's another shop that appreciates people more than their own ego. So disappointing! read more

I just got into biking 3 years ago and it is probably one best ideas I have had! They offer all kinds of bikes from casual comfort, trail, street/road, to everything else in-between those options. I own a Trek hybrid that is great for on and off the road. I can't catch those super high speeds on the road like a road bike but that's ok because I love taking my bike over to Millers Meadow South East Wichita, KS. I always appreciate their honesty. If you don't like wha they suggest they always have other suggestions to help you find what you want. If you don't want to buy something brand new you can also check out their used shop. read more

My wife and I have used the Delano Bicycle X-Change location three times and have had bad experiences all three times. The first time was to get work done on my son's Trek. They seemed very friendly and let us know when the work would be completed. Then when we went to get the bike at the promised day and time it wasn't ready and hadn't even been touched yet. They finally got it a day later than promised. We later bought a recumbent trike from them for my wife. They told us the date it would be ready. We went down to get it and it wasn't ready and hadn't even been started, but they hadn't bothered to communicate that until we showed up in the shop. They couldn't or wouldn't even tell us at the time when it might be ready. They just made excuses as to why they hadn't gotten to it yet. It took yet another week before they had her new already paid for trike ready and only ever communicated anything about it after I sent them multiple messages asking for a status. The third strike was when we took it in for covered maintenance to adjust some things on it like they suggested. We dropped it off on a Friday afternoon and they told us it would be ready by 5pm the next day and that they would call us if anything changed. They even repeated the phone number. We showed up on Saturday at 4:30 and they had a note on the door stating they had closed the store at 2pm and wouldn't reopen until Tuesday. They never called or communicated with us in any fashion that they would be closing early or anything. We went in at 5pm on Tuesday and they didn't even know where her expensive new trike was located. Our 9 year old found it and they claimed it wasn't her trike until we pushed the matter that it was in fact her trike. They then discovered they hadn't done any work on it and that it would only take 10 minutes to perform the requested maintenance. Over 30 minutes later we finally had the trike back. We discovered after we got home that they actually didn't perform all the requested maintenance even after taking longer than stated. We will NEVER use them again. They have horrible customer service and seem completely unorganized and clueless. read more

I have been a customer of BXC since the 80's. I just picked up a set of custom wheels to have laced and they took great care and they came out great. The shop has been in business 44 years so that says something. Rated in the top 40 bmx bike shops of all time and year after year voted best bike shop in the Wichita area. I love going in BXC and looking at the bike history whether it is bmx, mountain, or road. I like how they set the shop up to keep customers engaged while shopping there. I gave this bike shop 2 stars only because the customer service was good. As far as them fixing my bike! That is another story. I went to get the front gear railing adjusted. They quoted me $10.50+tax. I get a call 2 days later saying that the screw on the bottom bracket holding the gear cables broke and to repair/replace it would cost another $40.00! Why should I pay for a screw to get out when they snapped the thing? And I know that labor to remove the screw isn't worth no $40.00! Haven't these clowns heard of an "easy out"? And to top things off, my bike doesn't shift as smooth as it should. I wasn't a satisfied customer! read more

Although we purchased two bicycles worth over $3500, upon issues with both bikes, I feel we were treated as though we had caused the issues. One bicycle was under warranty and we were still charged the full amount for the repair of this issue. I feel as though this was not only unfair treatment, but also dishonest. I have bought two bicycles from this store, and they have been top-notch as far as customer service, product quality, and having plenty in-stock from which to choose. In fact, one of my bikes I had decided I wanted from the Trek website, and it cost nothing to order it in, same as if it had been in stock. They will also work with you on a layaway program, if you don't have the full cost of the bike up front. Their service department is excellent also, and I tend to be rather snobby about that kind of thing. :) As far as the previous reviewer goes, all I can imagine is that he brought in a poor quality "Bicycle Shaped Object", or one that had been under considerable distress, which didn't hold up to being repaired, and all he could see was that he was being ripped off. I think not. After you buy a bike from Bicycle X-Change, you will have 3 free tune-ups at 30, 60, and 90 days. They really take care of you. They also are very generous to the community, donating time and bicycles to various charity auctions-- particularly the YMCA children's ones. Go check the store out! They are super nice. read more
