This review is for the service as I have not purchased a bike from bicycle sport yet. So I was out on the trails at airline bike park trying to get a couple of late afternoon runs in before the rain hits this weekend and I popped a flat. With the bike sitting all winter, my sealant had completely dried out, and so I was forced to retreat, back to the house. However, on my way back home, I remembered that my neighborhood bike shop is sometimes open around this time so I decided to test my luck and see if I could stop by for a quick repair. When I pulled up to the store, the parking lot was packed, so I assumed the store was open, but when I walked in with my bike, I realized that they were having a reception for an upcoming, charity bike event, and the store was actually closed. However, there was one gentleman still behind the service counter, working on a bike. So after I explained to him that I simply needed a tire repaired, he decided to help me out. What started as a quick repair on my front tubeless tire ended up being a full refill of sealant in both my front and back tire. He also checked out my gears and brakes and recommended that I bring the bike back in to have the chain and cassette serviced. While I was standing at the counter, waiting for my tires to be completed, another one of the store owners, walked over and invited me into the bike reception and encouraged me to grab a couple of pieces of pizza. I thought this was pretty dope because the bike reception was mostly roadies, and I'm a mountain biker. Typically, the two crowds don't mix, but I appreciate the hospitality. This is my second or third time getting service work done at the store and each time has been a great experience. I would definitely recommend them if you're looking for service with a personal touch! read more

Came in to get my tri bike serviced before the summer. It is first come, first serve here so I am glad I planned ahead and got in before it got super super busy prior to riding season. I called ahead first to make sure they service all kinds of bikes and they explained their first come policy. Parker helped me out by giving my bike a once over before settling in. Recommended a new chain, but not pressured to replace it at all. Just provided the options. After getting my information, they gave me an estimate of when to pick up the bike... I think it was 3 days and they called on the 3rd day to tell me the bike was ready. Came to pick it up and paid without any issues. Just need to start putting some miles on the bike now (no excuses for me). All of the staff are super nice an knowledgeable. I would come back here in a heart-beat. My only ding would be the parking lot... I have a roof rack and some of the spots in front of the store "dip"... Probably a short-person problem, but I did have some issues off loading my bike since I was a little shorter standing in the dip, but totally understand it is probably for drainage. The traffic on Selwyn is a little crazy, but there are multiple entrances, just watch out for the other cars parking for the neighboring businesses. It looks like you can easily park on the street on Brandywine so that you don't have to deal with the spots... I'll keep this in mind later if I come for a group ride or future visits. read more

I had an excellent experience with them from start to finish. I received the bike 2 days before I expected it, and as it happened it had already been ready a day before I got called. Super fast service. I worked with the very knowledgeable sales staff who got me a nice fork pump and made some excellent seat recommendations (don't brush off those kids, they actually know their stuff). I had my seat dialed in perfectly and only had to make one very minor cockpit adjustment when I got home There was a minor pricing snafu and the only reason I mention it is because of how quickly and easily it was resolved. I will be taking all of my bikes here for service and purchases in the future. read more

Bicycle Sport - Bikes Near Me - Charlotte, North Carolina

Very disappointed with the service. They charged me $300+ even before I could check my bike and the work they did. When I checked my bike I learned they lost the cassette of my racing wheelset and told me to come back next week to see if they found it. Also they put a handlebar tape I don't like at all. They didn't even cared about asking the color I wanted. If you want bad customer service and getting stuff lost without any type of remediation come to this place. read more

This store overcharged me for an earlier-model bike. I was pressed for time, buying for my son's birthday, and so didn't take the time to research the market. Strike one was "caveat emptor" seems to be one of their guiding principles. Once I got wise and tried to ask for a refund, one of the sales people all but howled, feigning am interest in making an "accommodation" that would be symbiotic, but was nearly transparent in expressing his own interest, the fear of being stuck holding inventory. Strike two. Strike three came about halfway through the salesman's strong-arming when he was impudent enough to say the me, the customer, "as I already saud five times," ! Offensive, unkind, these guys seem concerned mainly with their own bottom line. To add insult to injury, the seatpost slips. Brand new. If you shop here, you'll likely overpay, and may even be insulted for that privilege, as well as sub-par work! Seems like a high-pressure middleman outfit that lives by trimming the uninformed (suckers), treating each piece of merchandise like a hot potato. read more

Great experience every single time. Staff is great and knowledgeable. My family and I have purchased over 15 bikes from them over the years, never disappointed, always great Thanks to Ben and his Team!!!!! read more

Super friendly. Great service. They build good relationships and are honest if they don't have something in stock and when it will be in.

Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Always willing to make a quick mid-ride adjustment to your bike if you bring it in. I've found their prices on purchase items to be reasonable and they never try to upsell you on new equipment. As an added bonus, if you have a bike you want to donate, they are a deposit site for Trips for Kids, which is a terrific organization. read more

Bicycle Sport in Charlotte is one of my favorite bike shops not just in Charlotte, but of everywhere. Ben and his crew are super friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in building long-term relationships. Also a great place for accessories including car racks, nutrition, helmets, and shoes. Everything is top quality! read more

Please be aware that the owner of this business is not really trustworthy. The products the store sells are of high quality, the sales personnel are very nice and helpful, and when they are selling a large sale to you they can not do enough to get that sale. However, anything beyond that, such as receiving a call-back, actually following up, or fulfilling a promise etc. will NOT be handled in an ethically business-like manner by the owner. I do not understand this owner's business model. read more

I bought a Santa Cruz Superlight 29 from Ben and the crew here a few months ago. Now I'm an avid road cyclist so this was my first "real" mountain bike so I had no idea what I was looking for. Jason let me try a few that were in my size (Cannondale, Moots, Trek) and I really liked the way the Superlight felt. They gave me a fair price, threw in some pedals, a tube, and a ton of advice. They also talked me into financing through Trek which gave me 6mo interest free! I've came in several times and they've always offered to adjust things for free. The whole experience was enjoyable, and they've earned my business for a while. TL;DR: Great shop, premium products, knowledgable staff, fair prices. read more

Awesome service! I had a flat tire on my mountain bike at a local trail 4 miles away and rode a buddies bike over with the rear tire and the guys at the shop went above and beyond to fix it quickly. Above and beyond in customer service! These guys always go beyond the rest for their customers. They have helped me with bikes I have bought elsewhere, and have earned my business over and over. The best! read more

Been a long time customer of Bicycle Sport, and have known owner, Ben Cooley, for a while. I have a Trek Emonda Road Bike equipped with Shimano's di2 electronic gear shifting. I recently started experiencing a rapid battery drain problem with the shifting mechanism. Jack, who is their mechanic, did a great job of troubleshooting the problem by painstakingly testing each component to narrow down the defective mechanism. This was a long process involving trial an error over a 2 week period. The defective part was replaced by Shimano under warranty. Well, the icing on the cake - when I went to pick up my bike they charged me $0 for all of Jack's labor!!They only invoiced me for a new chain that I had put on. I had to actually force Mike, their sales person, to charge an additional $65 to my Visa to compensate the shop for Jack's work!! I'll be the first one to admit that I'm guilty of buying certain pieces of cycling gear online as it's hard to pass up a 30-40% discount on certain accessories sold by the big UK warehouse chains. However, when an opportunity presents itself; I do to try and support my local brick and mortar local bike store (LBS).....and you should too. You owe it to yourself to work with Ben Cooley and his guys. I know I for one am glad they serve the Charlotte biking community!! Thanks Ben and thank you Jack for all your hard work!! read more

Great experience. I brought in a bike I bought on Amazon (great deal) and they were happy to put it on the rack and adjust my brakes for free! Definitely going back in for tune ups and upgrades. Slim pickings on apparel but there's plenty of places to get that stuff. read more

Had a great experience with my bike fit. Ben was extremely instructive and helped me with my technique. I have needed a couple of repairs and they have been great. Always so professional. read more

I blew out my Fox rear shock. Took it to Sport for warranty repair. Bad news: 3 weeks minimum to get it back from Fox. Yikes! Dan & Brian found me a shock to use in the mean time. Wow! These guys pulled a shock out of thin air. They know how to take care of their customers. Thanks guys! read more

Absolutely wonderful staff. I came all the way up from Fayetteville to get a Santa Cruz 5010. The bike was in high demand and Carol made sure no one swiped the bike before I could come up. Ended up coming right around closing time and thankfully they had a beer night going on so I was able to link in with the staff and see the bike. The folks here are everything you would want to find in a bike shop- friendly, accommodating, professional and knowledgeable. They clearly have close knit ties with the community and I would highly recommend this shop regardless of whether or not you are local! read more

Very happy with these guys! Just bought a CAAD12 from Chris and couldn't have asked for a better experience. I went shopping around town and even told Chris I had done that and there was no animosity and you could tell he just wanted me to find a bike I was happy with. I had been in a few times before to ride a couple different bikes and it was always a great experience. I wasn't pushed into anything more expensive and they were very respectful of my budget. Had such a good time I wanted to show my thanks when I went to pick up the bike today and brought some doughnuts. Flexible, nice, engaging, and very good at listening and helping. Also worked with Ben who is great and exchanged some emails. These guys will be my go to shop for any bike needs. read more

After my fitting and tune I got my bike back from Bicycle Sport. It feels like a new bike. I can't believe how small tweaks from experts can improve my riding experience. Something as small as being fit for the right saddle allowed me to stop using so much effort to keep me properly positioned in my seat. This allowed me to relax and focus on other aspects including the tips they gave me about the way I applied pressure on my pedals for increased power. Especially usable after they properly aligned my clips in my shoes. I did without a couple upgrades because since I bought my bike the industry has started to realize the need/demand for bikes that fit a woman's build better. With that knowledge I decided to wait another season to see if I wanted to install the upgrades or consider a better fitting bike for next year. read more

After researching a number of Charlotte area bike shops, these guys came down to the best overall service/pitch. The Trek was one of the more expensive choices I had but I wanted to give my business to a local shop and felt I would get the best personalized service here. The bike has been great and the staff I worked with through the purchase were knowledgeable and fun. Specifically, Dan - he was awesome! The downer-- I went back two weeks later to buy a friend some pedals for her birthday. They mentioned they would install for free so I was pumped and obviously extended the offer to her (I had been bragging to her about how great this place was) When we went back to get her pedals installed - which only took about 10 minutes - the guy wanted to charge her $10 since she hadn't bought her shoes there... I was pretty bummed after spending close to $2,000 on bike and accessories in less than one month, that they wanted to nickel and dime me on this one. It was awkward since my friend was with me and it was a gift so I paid the $10 without raising issue.. but it was pretty embarrassing since I had talked up the place to her and I didn't know better to ask about the shoes. Maybe it was my fault for not asking specifically if the toe clip and pedal installation were separate.. read more

I have been coming here for 5 years and they are the BEST! Ben, Justin, Zach, Jason, and Brian all take great care of me. I purchased my Trek Madone 6 series there a couple of years ago and they were very helpful and gave me great advice when I was ordering my new bike. They were patient with me while I figured out my paint scheme. They don't over sell on the bike or service side. They provide great value for your dollar. No matter how much money you spend, you are treated great! They are not there just to sell expensive bikes. They are very much in the community and of the community. read more

I decided I wanted to buy a bike for riding around town running errands, quick grocery trips, etc. I am new to the whole bicycle culture and was a little overwhelmed by all of my options. The staff here was incredibly helpful -- they asked the right questions and pointed me in the right direction. No up-selling and, in fact, they told me what things I didn't need so that I saved some cash. I bought some accessories (lights, rack, etc) and they installed them immediately at no charge. Highly recommend. read more

Fantastic service, quality, and value. My fiancé is getting into triathlons and cycling so it was time to get a serious bike. When we came in we were helped by Chris who educated us on things to look for and how to find a proper fit. He set up the bike so it would be comfortable for someone beginning on a road bike and showed us what they can adjust once the comfort level is there and my fiancé wants a more aggressive posture on the bike. He took time to understand our budget and needs and she went home with an awesome Trek road bike. He set it up with water bottles and tire repair kit for races as well.He even gave a lesson on how to use everything in the repair kit. Plus they will make adjustments to the bike anytime for the life of the bike! I'll be coming back when it's time for me to get a new bike. read more

Best bike shop I have ever been to and I have been to some of the best in Southern and Northern California and Texas. Bike inventory is excellent but what makes the place is the service. Terrible service from boy with brunette/black long hair. Went in to get a tube for my brother for his bike and approached the boy at the counter asking if he could help me find it. Now, I know little to nothing about bikes, my brother is the one who rides. I read off from a text my brother sent me about what he needed. The boy made me feel like a complete idiot while I tried to explain what tube my brother asked me to get. Not helpful at all and smirked at me the entire time. I even asked if he wanted to speak to my brother on the phone to figure out what he needed and looked at me and sighed "okayyyy" and turned around and walked away. Finally he just handed me a tube and at that point I could of cared less if it was the right one or not, I just wanted to leave. I'm sorry I'm not a bike person, but I don't think it's right to treat me like a class-a idiot because I don't know everything about them. This was my first time going in and if I have to come back it will definitely be when he's not working. read more
