Hi highly recommend buying your design materials at BI design. I purchased hardwood floors before moving out of state. When I was ready to instal months later I noticed I had the wrong hardwood. I sent an email to Janet my sales person and shortly after received a call from the owner. She jumped hoops to correct my order and I love the hardwood floors. Craig and Lindsey came put to our home brought a variety of samples and were so accommodating it took us a while to pull the trigger on our purchase and all the while they were so accommodating, professional and never making us feel like we were bothering them. So we finally decided to replace our kitchen (travertine floor) family room and hallway (carpet) with a porcelain wood tile. We have a modern eclectic style and Craig recommend the best products to suit our home and style. They just finished replacing all the carpeting in our 2-story, 2100 sq ft home with beautiful laminate flooring. They worked with us to select the product, provided a detailed, reasonable estimate, and we set a start date. Their expert installers showed up on time and completed the project a day earlier than estimated. Their installer is an artist, blending the new floor with the existing base boards to creat a beautiful result. The stairs exceed our most optimistic expectations. I have a 10 yr old 3000' Mediterranean house in El Dorado Hills. Needed to replace worn carpet, and update the tile in my kitchen. I have minimal interior decoration acumen so I was a little anxious about the process, knowing I'd be living with my decorating decisions for the next decade. A goal in the process was to create a classy downstairs home office (I'm a lawyer) but balance things with a relaxed feeling of being at home (single dad, an 11 yr old daughter and a small dog). Did my due diligence by visiting a handful of stores, and shocked to find sales people who knew virtually nothing- other than pricing-about their products. More than one store advised me basically "if you want to know more about these materials, google them". I was a little angry as the process wore on as I wasn't making progress, and frustrated because no one at those stores took an interest in my project - or even pretended to be interested. Then I visited BI Design and it was immediately different. Wow. The owners, Craig Badolian and his wife Alex, first took the time to ask ME questions about my goals to capture what I was looking for though I couldn't quite articulate it myself. I learned Craig's dad spent decades in flooring helping to build the Carpeteria empire, and I later became aware that Craig met Alex at a Design Academy in Italy where they both had formal design training. This isn't their job, it's their LIFE. Clean, organized showroom in the middle of the palatial Montaña center. I see now that virtually any project can be accomplished within any budget if thought and creativity are in the mix. The trick is finding someone who has the abilities and interest in spending time with you, really applying their talents. Craig made design suggestions that left open the option to add other decorating ideas down the road. Things I'd never think of on my own. He answered my product related questions (no googling necessary!) and there were a few questions that he honestly said he couldn't answer without seeing the home. I respect someone who says "I don't know," rather than make something up or saying "google it". Another pleasant surprise: Craig offered to grab samples we were discussing, a tape measure and drawing paper, and take a few minutes to visit my house. Of course I said sure. We grabbed coffee to go (BI is located next to Peet's coffee- nice!), and drove to my place. After some measuring and sketching, his ideas flowed. The samples made it easy for me to visualize. That was a huge plus for me because the anxiety finally left. I re-carpeted the upstairs, with two bedrooms and a jack and jill bath. I re-did the bathroom floor with gorgeous tile. After installing hardwood in my office downstairs -which I did as a test before I made the decision for the rest of the downstairs, it looked so good that I decided to remove the carpet and tile in the entire downstairs and replace it with 100% Du Chateau vernal oak hardwood, even the closets. It's gorgeous! Struck the right balance between class, relaxation, durability (kid and dog) and all fit in my budget. I come home at night and I almost feel like I'm in someone else's new model home. My focus now is window coverings, which BI has many on display. After getting used to the floor for a bit, Craig and Alex ordered new sconces for my office, which I just installed last weekend and they look great. I like that I can go at my own pace, take a break, do something else, take a break, etc. It's great. There are other smaller things I noticed during the process that I really appreciated. For example, I was worried about the demolition part of the job where the tile had to be cut out (I have a slab foundation) before the hardwood could be installed. I was relieved that the crew had certified demolition experience, took its time, put plastic over everything and put just as much time and effort into reducing the dust as they did removing the tile. They're pros. After the entire job was done, I had my regular housekeeper come in for a few hours and do high dusting on ceiling fans, etc., and it was as clean as before the job began. A big relief! There was good communication in scheduling the job, keeping me posted on what to expect, and they arrived and finished on time. Things you naturally expect, but sadly rarely does it actually happen. Went smooth as silk. I suppose I felt the whole relationship was about focusing on dreaming up and creating a dream home, not about simply making a commercial purchase. Extremely hard to find these days. I've learned a lot in the process, and I'm sure there are folks out there who need flooring, etc, and feel somewhat intimidated like I did, and hopefully this review can help them. If I could say one thing to them it would be of course do your homework, but do yourself a favor and instead put BI Design as FIRST on your list of places to check out, because they really do set the standard. read more

My contractor had encourage me to purchase kitchen cabinets through BI Design. Upon walking into the studio I just so happened to be walking behind a man dressed in working clothes to deliver a package. I was dressed like I was on vacation in the Bahamas wearing very colorful shorts, a t-shirt and a red baseball cap. A woman (Stephanie) appeared from another room and spoke to the delivery man and lead him into another room. Meanwhile, I waited patiently for my turn. After about ten minutes I decided to peak my head around the corner. Stephanie was sitting at a desk engrossed in whatever she was thoughtfully working on. When I explained why I was there she immediately said, "I thought you came in with the delivery man." I was taken aback because she had ignored me when all she had to do was ask if she could be of help. First impression: POOR customer service. And, this woman reminded me of the attitude car salesmen have when working with a male/female couple. They will speak with the male first. Stephanie did the same as a car salesman, which in my experience....are the lowest forms of life secondary to politicians. First impression: Very Negative thus far but still giving her another chance. She spent far too long discussing colors of the cabinets which lead me to believe the process would be quick and painless once we figured out my kitchen layout and my preferences. Wrong! After a few days still no progress. During this time, I went back to the studio and picked out back splash. I finally met Craig and his sister Jenifer. Craig spoke with me for about 2 minutes and then Jenifer helped me to pick out the back splash pattern. Ok, so I met these people. They met me. I am a nice person and I am going to spend money here. After two weeks went by I called to ask why no one was communicating with me. I had explained from the beginning that I didn't have a lot of time and needed to get working on this sooner than later. I remember telling Stephanie I did not have a lot of time to get this project started and when I did she seemed to be trying to push me out the door as if I did not have a lot of time that day. This is sadly amusing. When I called two weeks later, I spoke with Jenifer. She became very defensive and stated instead of charging me $11,000 for the project Craig was only going to charge $9,000 to keep me within my budget and Stephanie had taken the project home to work on it. Mind you, this is two weeks later. It shouldn't take two weeks to figure out what cabinets I need. My kitchen is less than 250 square feet. My impression of this entire experience is they do not like working with people who do not appear to have money and/or a project deemed unworthy of their time. Happily, I found the same cabinets and features I like at Home Depot and the cost is less than $7,000. I also found the same back splash on the internet from a wholesale company. BI comes into your home and treats you like an old friend all the while providing great design insight to help you through the tough choices (I have a hard time visualizing the finished product but they really helped me through it all). They're really just awesome people, and that their bid came in right-at or below the others is just secondary. In the end we had to have the installers out a few times to add more glue to our hardwood, they were always so accommodating, stating "if you have problems 10 years from now you should always come and request for us to fix it". I don't know what else to say. Start to finish wonderful people, chill vibe, never "selling", and all the while providing A+ service and support. You can't go wrong here and you're at a disservice if you don't let them bid. In our case they beat the competition in price but we'd decided long before that to go with them, you'll see what I mean. read more

If you already have an idea what you need avoid this place! I recently found BI design to be extremely hard to deal with, with terrible customer service, and very little integrity. I went there to buy maybe $1500 worth of materials and some install (not a big job). After helping me half way I felt like they had done right by me and had decided to go with them even though I had other bids. They were so bad that it made it impossible to give them my business, which turned out to be a blessing, because I found out in the end they only helped me with half of my needs on purpose! It is important to note, I was coming from work on the first encounter (dressed nicely), and people were very nice and seemed helpful. After I started working on my project I would pop in in work clothes and the service / attitude was distinctly different. Oh, and don't tell them if any other vendors are vying for your business, because they will just waste your time. I could not believe how insecure they were to be so unhelpful when they thought others were competing. If you do like what they offer, just lie and pretend they are only business on the planet. I would think a business like this with a high priced location for commercial space, would rely on great customer service, but not so. After reading the other reviews, I am glad to find out that Craig is the owner, because it will be his responsibility to explain to his employees why their jobs are gone when the business closes down, which is inevitable if their business practices stay on the present course. read more

We stopped by to look for tile for our backsplash. They have a lot of tile on display and also offered to order samples for us. In addition to tile, they had wood flooring in display as well. The price range is on par with most other places but when we went they actually had a sale plus they offered a sale with no tax. We found glass tile elsewhere but it wasn't for lack of BI trying. BEWARE: BI Design has an excellent choice of really beautiful materials. Beautiful show room set up very nicely but BE ADVISED: if something goes wrong with an order you are on your own. A designer took me there originally and spent a lot of time selecting materials. We selected beautiful tile for a complete renovation of kitchen and two bathrooms for a job in Southern California. The wrong tile was ordered and shipped twice long distance..meaning from Washington state to an island off the coast of California...so I was charged freight costs and barge charges X 2 for the wrong tile...I took my concerns directly to BID and guess what? No response no call back nothing...BID took absolutely no action or any responsibility for the incorrect orders...what would you think? So it took three times ordering the tile to get it right. And significant delays in the project. It was very confounding to get no response. Luckily the contractor running the job was extremely patient with the delays. Designer and then I both finally ended up calling the tile rep. And he straightened it out with the tile manufacturer...I consider myself lucky that I am not sitting on several thousand dollars worth of tile I could not use....in fact we ended up working with the tile manufacturer on another job using the same beautiful tile but not going through BID. Tile maker reimbursed me for all freight charges but BID stood by and did and said nothing. While we understand things go wrong in the world of long distance ordering, one would expect the storefront who carries the product to check and confirm that the correct tile was ordered...pictures are worth a thousand order forms. So for several weeks, I was stuck with freight costs and tile orders for double the original amount and then had to order blindly and hope it was right for a third time...this would naturally frustrate anyone. All out of my pocket with no hope of a recoup....We had to resort to emails and begging for help, which we never did receive. If BID is going to rep.products then they have to make at least some attempt to rectify the problem when things go wrong. So BEWARE. Surface Art, the tile manufacturer--the owner of that company called me several times to resolve the issue. Ultimately I did get one contact from Craig at BID but it was way too little and way too late---well after the Surface Art owner fixed everything. This is the first negative Yelp I've ever written having said nothing when this all occurred way back in March of 2014. After reading some very glowing comments I was moved to the point that I thought another view should be shared. read more

All of the staff are well informed, have a true sense for design and style, are very helpful, gracious, friendly, and down to earth. I dropped in one Saturday afternoon after shopping other stores for about 3 months and still not having a solution for my bathroom remodel finishes. After two hours with Alex, I had a solution more special and beautiful than I had ever imagined.
