So I'll keep this focused.
Car: 2017 Audi Q7
Service request: Front brakes (Rotors and pads)
Parts: I provided all the OEM parts.
Outcome: Tech states that 3 bolts were difficult to remove (stated that he is afraid to break my spline tool) and says he put the bolts back in for me to decide next steps.
I walked over and went to pick up my key, when they offered to have the tech explain what happened. He repeated what they said over the phone.
I took the car down the road to another shop (Speed auto repair) that I've used extensively in the past. I tried to cheap out and use BG and the old old saying hit me square in the mouth.
Once the second shop checked my car, they found the bolts that were removed were installed back on the car incorrectly and with anti-seize applied to the threads. On a bottle of anti-seize, it states that you should not use it on lug bolts. The bolts were forced in the hub and cross threaded the hub. So now, I have to change both front hubs.
Lesson learned. If you need an oil change or some other simple repair on a domestic vehicle older than 2020, you can try your luck here. Anything foreign, don't waste your time. Cheaper does not equate to better.
FYI - I did call the shop. All was good until the excuses came. I did give incorrect info accusing the tech of swapping lugs. I was wrong and apologize for that. The lugs were indeed mine, but threads destroyed.
Take your shot, good luck and don't always go for the lowest rate. read more
