I'd still be driving past it had a friend not told me about it. When foodies come to visit, we often take them to this place. I use a lot of dried wild mushrooms and porcinis in my cooking, and theirs are good quality...without larvae holes that you find elsewhere. They also have empty spice containers of various sizes, which are great for spice blends (like Baharat ) both to use and as gifts. The people who work there are friendly and helpful.

It's a really cool shop with tons of great offerings: fresh spices (small portions in little bags or bigger portions in tins), teas, extracts, jams, pestos, sauces, and various kitchen accoutrements. They were sampling several Stonewall Kitchens products when we arrived, and they sold many of their products, ranging from syrups to marinades. I was most intrigued by a line of products from France, namely a tomato pesto that looked irresistible. I also picked up some interesting mustard (tarragon), some jams, and some spices. The one thing I was most disappointed with was the vanilla extract. When I got home, I realized that it has high fructose corn syrup in it. I thought that being in a specialty spice store, I didn't have to scrutinize labels looking for subpar ingredients, but that was my mistake, apparently. The extract that I buy from Whole Foods just has alcohol, vanilla bean, and water, so I don't know why there's a need for high fructose corn syrup in a vanilla extract. It really bummed me out. Again, I realize this is my mistake for failing to notice this prior to making the purchase, but I kind of expected a little more from this charming little shop. In any case, the owner was very friendly and helpful, and I would definitely stop back in to buy spices next time I was in town.
