As this is my 667th entry on Yelp, this review will function as both my first review of the year and the one that breaks up my peculiar 666 friend/666 review combo. As much as I loved carrying the the true sign of the beast on my Yelp profile, it is a new year and it is time for change.
Speaking of change, many of you out there might be looking to change things up a bit in 2010. Some of you might make common resolutions such as eating healthier, drinking less, and working out more. I know I won't since I love to eat whatever I want, suffer from dipsomania, and abhor running on a treadmill or lifting weights at the gym. And well, as much I want to believe I am my own special little snowflake, I know there are many people like me out there who eat a lot, have an affinity for Jack and (diet) Cokes, and hate the gym. In the end, people like to live the good life.
So if you're anything like me, let me suggest a great way to start the year off right. Join a soccer team!
Beyond the Game (BTG) is a recreational soccer league. You can start your own team at any skill level or just join one as a free agent. The league has beginner, intermediate, and highly skilled divisions. Currently, they offer co-ed during the week and varying men's divisions on Sunday on grass and turf fields. All games, take place at parks and schools in the south Bay. The most common locations are in Sunnyvale, Campbell, and San Jose.
I play on a intermediate level co-ed team and men's turf team on Sunday. It's a remarkably fun way to work out, get some cardio, burn off a little stress, and maybe shed an inch or two off my waistline.
So if you're looking for a (fun) way to maybe get in shape or just be a bit healthier this year, BTG might be the way to go. And if you're new to the area, I highly suggest joining a team in the league. It's a great way to meet people. Well, besides Yelp. read more
