Planet Beach is utterly fabulous, luxe and "lush", this location is NEW, I wanna say about 1 year…read moreold, I just moved to the area and been to a few tanning salons around the street road area, Planet Beach blows them ALL out of the water. Nice wooden floors, fresh bright paint, and the hottest music. The owner Jamie is very sweet but she is quiet.
But here's the real deal -- After tanning at Planet Beach in New Orleans, I wanted to stay faithful and continue to go once I moved to Philly / warminster. So I did a search on the world wide web and found one 5 miles away, kind-of far, but judging from Totally Tans right around the corner from me (check out my review for them) I would endure the drive. I was immediately impressed, and wanted a Spray tan. So yoga pants-clad and stupidly a white t-shirt.
Here's the do's and don't's of spray tanning, first of all:
* you can't wear a bra afterward, so definitely don't wear a white t-shirt and don't plan on, say, going to Ottimista immediately following for a glass of wine (oops)
* you will def have that telltale fake tanner smell afterward...
* remember that if you have white sheets and a white duvet (ahem, moi), the tanner will get everywhere when you go to sleep that night -- so either wear lots of dark clothes to bed or sleep elsewhere (bahaha, make it someone else's problem!)
* don't wear makeup or lotion - best to shower, shave legs and exfoliate before
As someone who tans in the sun easily but has also experimented with bed tanning, I was interested to try airbrush tanning because it really pairs the best of both worlds -- a streak free deep tan that's nearly instantaneous, without the horrible effects of bed tanning.
And that's exactly what PB offered -- a completely smooth, even, streak free airbrush tan that stayed put for a long time and looked good in pictures.
What I wouldn't do over again? plan on waking up, like, three shades darker, because the color develops overnight. I was shocked when I woke up the next morning - but that said, it didn't look tacky or freaky-orange (it just looked like I'd been in Mexico or the Bahamas for the last month).
Clean tanning booth, and fab products.
