Today I tried using the Equality Act 2010 again and reasonable ajustments. And the receptionist kept talking over me deliberitly not wanting to let me use it for my health to help. So then they kept hanging the phone up, which never helped my condition so I kept phoning back. And even without answering cutting me off. I paid a lot of money to join this practice which they asked for and now they are not even answering the phone they blocked me. I'm my opnion they clearly have issues with people such as me with disabilitys. And use a protected act and you get worse treatment. I recorded the call today but also asked for their recordings under a subject access request under GDPR legislation which is free they have to give you it. Things got so bad today they made a threat against me for phoning up when they kept hanging up. So I contacted the Police for and was given a log number for any futher incidences. One manager stated to me about my treatment from the dentist. If you want to complain about treatment complain to him. I allready advised them the dentist scares me do to certain actions. So asked for ajustment for me not to deal with him directly and they ignored this as well. They tried to say he is inderpendent from them. But the fact is they have a duty of care. And they have what is legally known as a NON DELEGABLE DUTY" The amounts of money from what they state has gone right up over £1000 for me. Not the prices on their web page. You see the real side of these when you start to complain they are not so friendly then. And I am classed as disabilied.

Because I've seen signs being advertised across the Great Barr area, and I really needed a good dental surgery. I don't like dentists and I don't think many people do. So, when it came to the time when I knew I had to go, I had to make sure the surgery would be a great one. I'd heard so many good things about this surgery, so that's what convinced me to go with them. Once I registered with them, I received an exceptional service. Especially from the dentist that dealt with my dental treatment. It's great to know we have such brilliant dentists like this around which you can register with even if you don't live in that area. As it was an urgent treatment, I'm glad I went to a reputable surgery.

She subsequently moved to a friendlier dentist. However I stayed with the dentist for a root canal treatment. After only a year this failed and required treatment at Birmingham Dental hospital who commented on the poor quality of the original treatment. Of more serious concern was that they failed to follow standard dental policy for referral for suspected oral cancer. After 2 trips to the dentist and antibiotics I heard nothing and they suggested I just go along to the hospital and someone might see me rather than following NICE guidelines for an urgent 2 week referral. In the end I paid to see a private consultant who clearly identified oral cancer and had me referred as an urgent patient to the hospital clinic by the next day. After 6 months of surgery and radiotherapy thing are looking good. But would I ever trust Gentle Dental again - absolutely not.

I've eventually come to the conclusion that the perfect one really doesn't exist, it's me who has the problem. Having said all this, in a bid to show my children that going to the dentist is absolutely fine, I gave James Hull a go. The dentist I saw was kind, allowed me to bring my baby son in with me and didn't spend ages telling me all the expensive treatments I could have on my teeth. The hygienist was good too and even allowed me to have my son on my lap during treatment as he was screaming the house down in the dental nurse's arms. The only thing that has put me off is that I was due to go back for another clean with the hygienist and they cancelled on me a few days before. Now, I don't need any excuse not to go and so I haven't bothered making a new appointment as their cancellation came by letter. If they'd phoned me, I probably would have re-booked, but a letter gave me the perfect excuse not to bother. I'll probably move on to yet another practice soon.

Firstly I do not appreciate having to pay for treatment in advance when making an appointment. There may be some great reasons for this but really, as the paying customer, I have to real off my card details over the phone? Secure? Maybe. I'm told by a source this is only for NHS patients which makes me feel even more second rate. Arriving early for my dental check up appointment I am asked to wait in a room with a huge TV in. I hate what's on but social etiquette won't allow me to get up and change the rolling news. Eventually I am called, 15 minutes late, to my first appointment. Yes I understand 15 minutes is not very long, yes I understand this is not the worse thing in the world to happen but a simple apology would go along way. The receptionist mentioning it when I booked in would have appeased me also. The dental check up goes fine and then I have my hygiene appointment. The hygienist is wonderful and does a great job. My issues are not with the dental parts of the service but the bureaucracy that fits around it. The reception also closes for lunch. So you can't phone over your lunch break, you know, when phone calls are easier to make?!

My first dentist used to scare me, the second one ripped me off but 'Shirley Dental care' doesn't rip people off and has nice dentists. It's arguably one of the best dentists my family and I have been to. It can be confusing when dentists start informing you of procedures but here they make it sound so simple. They don't persuade you to have things done in your mouth, such as fillings, so they can get more money. Instead they helpfully inform you of what's going to happen without making you feel like you have to have it done (unless it's absolutely vital). The staff are friendly and always as helpful as they can be. However, their mouthwash still tastes as disgusting as any other dentist and they don't have up-to-date magazines for those long boring waits. I guess it's the little things that count too.

They are full of advice; in fact I realised that the reason I've had fillings in recent years, when I really don't eat an awful lot of sweets (except for cinema treats) is because I'm not brushing correctly. It turns out, just brushing thoroughly for 2 whole minutes twice daily and flossing does the trick. It's the first check I remember when I had not treatment, not even a little tiny filling. Mr Rooprai, who I see always remembers conversations (a bit like a hairdresser) does and we talk about me travels during the 2 minutes I have before he starts checking my teeth. He's also full of humour and they always have the radio on which relaxes me just a bit. Highly recommended if you can get in as a NHS patient.

I've popped in a few times with my Mom - she needed a bit of moral support following an unfortunate incident with a boiled sweet (she had to have root canal treatment...which is as horrible as it sounds) but really, I wasn't needed as the procedure was pretty straight forward and the Dentist who treated her just the right mix of professional and soothing. There's also a good selection of reading material - Hello, Okay and other glossies that I only ever read in waiting rooms and are a bit of a guilty pleasure!
