I went in to grab a bottle of wine for my dad and a six pack, heading to a birthday party and because my driver's license expired a couple of weeks ago (not that it matters, but an honest oversight if you had a window into my life over the last couple of months of balancing family health issues, a seasonably insane workload, and a home move) they would not sell to me. I'm 45 years old and it's not like my expired license isn't clearly me. My wife was in the middle of a hair appointment, but I drove over and grabbed her license, hoping that this would get me over the hurdle of this ridiculous formality in their system, but because she was not present with me this was not sufficient. Once again, I'm 45 years old. When the employee, who I am choosing to believe was just a bit too "by the book" and not just giving me a hard time (though I can't be completely sure), said that the system needs her to be present I responded that the system does not know she isn't here. She then proceeded to tell me "but the camera does" as if the company matches up the footage to the licenses, and as if, once again, I wasn't a 45 year old man with a graying beard and a receding hairline that would appear on that camera. Policies are policies and it's not the employee's fault that BevMo has such an insane, uncompromising reliance on computer matching as the way they handle age verification, but they should have an override. If this is the biggest problem that you encounter in a day, you've had a pretty good day and I fully acknowledge that, but this is completely stupid and frustrating. read more

Worse business ever. Corporate needs to look into their business practices. Today I went into buy some Hurricane Mix for a party this weekend and saw that they had Buchanans Pineapple marked as $45.99 and 0.5cents for a second bottle. I recently shopped on Thursday, July 8 to buy wine for coworker as a gift to commemorate his retirement from active duty; there was one sales clerk at the end of the aisle (right side of the Camarillo store) and I was the sole customer in the same aisle perusing the wine selection - no acknowledgement of my presence or greeting. Moments later, a female customer arrived in the same aisle and she was acknowledged, "How may I help you, Ma'am?" Really? Learn something from Nordstrom's and greet all customers. Eventually, I bought a bottle of Sangria and I still had to find a cashier so that I could complete my purchase .... and yes, I refused membership in the BevMo club. There are liquor stores and then there are liquor stores. As someone who drinks craft beer exclusively, I find it challenging to find stores that carry the brands I like. This location is small and carries a limited number of items when compared other BevMo stores closer to Los Angeles. Yet, it offers a lot of options to me without having to leave Camarillo. They offer three sections: wine, beer and liquor. The wine selections are fairly limited if you are seeking a high end wine and/or obscure label. The beer selection is a mix of local and national brands. For example, this location offers Enegren, Modern Times and MadeWest in addition to items such as Mikkeller, Einstock, Anderson Valley and Dogfish Head. The prices are more than competitors of their size but less than going to the local beer caves. BevMo! offers a reward program that gives 5% savings back for every $100 spent and offers coupons regularly to those who sign up for the rewards programs. The coupons are usually $10 off 50 or $15 off $75. BevMo! also mails flyers with these coupons about 3-4 times per year. This location is sandwiched next to Pier 1 in a strip mall. There is ample parking. The store is open 7 days a week but not late, closing at 9PM, M-Sa. The customer service agents are friendly and will make recommendations, if you ask. About BevMo! corporate, if interested: BevMo! is headquartered in Concord, California and is privately owned. The company was founded in 1994 as Beverages & More! in the Bay Area, and rebranded shorthand to "BevMo!" 2001. Today, there are more than 150 stores across California, Washington and Arizona. I went to this BevMo a couple months back with my partner. We were on the way to LA for a basketball game and decided to stop to get drinks & use the restroom. He had no idea what I wanted so I went with him. Don't get me wrong, the guys helping me were incredibly helpful and attentive. It was the cashier I had that was an issue. My partner was at the register paying. I had joined him after using the restroom as I realized he didn't have a BevMo card and needed mine to take advantage of the five cent sale. I didn't bring my wallet in as I knew I wasn't paying. The cashier was incredibly rude when asking for my ID. I told her it was in the car and I didn't know I needed it to enter the store. I did have a picture of my ID on my phone but she refused. She didn't explain anything and told me to get out. I asked her if she could at least get my phone number for my BevMo account so my partner could pay and we could leave. She refused and repeatedly told me to get out. I don't think I would have been so sour and pressed to write a review months after the fact but the whole situation could have been handled with better tact and manner. Simply apologizing, explaining that it was policy and next time to bring my physical ID would have sufficed but none of that happened. I get that it's policy especially with a college near by. But the attitude she gave me during the whole interaction was unnecessary & ugly. While I understand the need to ID someone when BUYING alcohol, if ID is needed merely for entering the store then someone should be at the entrance checking--somewhat like a club or whatnot-- to avoid these instances. Again, this has nothing to do with the store or the selection of alcohol. I find the store great, the sales amazing, and the guys helping me fantastic. I was standing next to my partner while HE bought things for HIS drinks. The cashier carded me, even though I wasn't purchasing anything, which would make more sense if I looked younger than I do, but I am well into my thirties. My ID happened to have expired so I'm waiting for my replacement. But again, I wasn't purchasing anything. I really only tagged along because the car was hot and I never imagined we'd experience this sort of BS. It was so weird to be carded in the first place, and unbelievable for the cashier to then take my partner's items and refuse to ring him out because of "policy". What?! Better judgement calls could have been made here. Left incredibly frustrated at the ridiculous situation and upset because the closest liquor store with the fruit liquor he needed was too far away. Why not card everyone at the entrance if you're going to be so unreasonable? I rarely leave bad reviews but felt the need to for this place. Not happy with my last attempted online transaction. I purchased a bottle of Blanton single barrel on their site in the evening hours. The inventory showed that there were 5 bottles in stock at the time I made the purchase. The online site subtracted my bottle from the overall inventory after I made my purchase. I had mine, but she didnt bring her purse. we are both well into our 40s and are quite obviously over 21. several times in the past, she has even purchased alcohol at that location FROM THAT SAME CASHIER!!!! Not sure what his problem was, but we had a full basket and that store lost out on a sale and any of our future business. read more

I love that you can find anything you need at BevMo to make a drink and to go with a drink. However, service to me is the most important thing. Maybe we were older we came from a different era, we like to chat with employees, Make a joke, and be appreciated as a customer. It's a really bad feeling when you try to make a joke with someone and they look at you like you're stupid, and act like they're too busy to talk to you half facing in the other direction, ready to run to get other work done. I worked retail when I was young and we were taught right from the beginning to help the customer and make them feel welcome and it is and like you are there to help them. Kind of like the service you get at Trader Joe's. Really, today makes me not want to come back. Seems like a small thing... It's really not. It's the friendly atmosphere that keeps us coming back. Be VERY careful with the prices you see on the labels and what the cashier actually charges you. We bought 7 Hennessy bottles (750mL) and each was priced at $33.99. At the cash register they tried charging us $40.99, and luckily we were able to catch that on the spot. Then we drove to the Bevmo! in Ventura to buy 10 more bottles and the cashier (Joanna) at that particular store was SUPER helpful and even suggested that we download their app to save $10 on purchases of $50 and more. She was very patient with us, very friendly, and we felt very welcoming there. She also didn't try charging us more than the advertised price. After realizing that 17 bottles is going to be a little too much, we decided to return 5 out of 7 bottles that we had bought earlier at Bevmo! in Camarillo. When we arrived, the manager quickly became irritated and angry with the fact that we were returning the items (which we bough less than 2 hours ago.) He quickly got the attitude and said that we couldn't return them (even though the receipt says 7 day return policy.) He tried arguing that it is 7 days IF the items are bad, however, it is clearly stated on the receipt that you can return anything within 7 days if you are DISSATISFIED. For anyone reading this - if they try their tactic on you - don't take their word for it! fight back! Overall: Loved the Bevmo! at Ventura location , was very disappointed with the one in Camarillo. In fact, ill never visit here again ... would only go to Bevmo! and would suggest you do the same ! read more

I had a great experience at BevMo they are the only place where we can get our two favorite reds.... Red Rum and Coronado Brewery's Mermaid Red beer the staff is very knowledgeable about the craft beers and the wine that they have we needed one to go with prime rib they helped us with our selection and it was spot on. they have good prices on chap wine that is not bad for daily drinking also a good selection of drink ware the staff is always very helpful too. read more

I have been going to Bevmo ever since they came to Ventura County. Been coming to Camarillo for a while but after this last visit never again. I took part in the mediocre beer and wine tasting which was okay. When I went to purchase my cart of items with my finance and her little brother (18) I was informed that due to the fact he did not have ID and was under age I could not purchase anything eve though I'm 31 with ID. Odd I though as 10 min ago you just served my finance and myself beer and wine, but I understood the have to follow the liquor license laws which is fine I understand policy you need to follow working retail myself. What was unacceptable was how the store manager Heather handled the situation. My 28 year old fiancee was told "You need to LEAVE MY STORE immediately!!" as she pointed to the door..... Not the right way to handle the situation or a long term customer. It felt like we stole something from the store. Again I get policy and don't have a problem with the stores inability to sell me alcohol due to the party I brought in with me. I was simply unaware and will remember next to I go to purchase alcohol. I will never be returning to this store bases solely on the customer experience I received from the person in charge of the store. Heather needs to learn a little about empathy and a lot about customer service. I hear Total Wine and More has good service, I'll find out soon as the wedding alcohol I was going to inquire to purchase will be bought from there. read more
