I have been here a number of times with a friend who lives in Stamford. I'm a pretty big beer nerd and always find their beer selection to be pretty good. I like that you can buy individual cans and bottles. What prompted me to write this review, though, is that I had a particularly good experience the other day when I needed to buy a bottle of scotch. I don't know anything about scotch, so I was looking helplessly at the large selection they have when a store employee asked me if I needed help. I said I did, and they brought over somebody who was very helpful. He asked what I was looking for and my price range, and he made a suggestion. I bought it, brought it to a scotch tasting, and it was the crowd pleaser. Thanks to that guy who did a great job helping me pick a scotch. read more

Impressive selection of wine and spirits (can't speak as much to the beer). Carries some spirits that TotalWine in Norwalk does not carry, and definitely carries more overall than the BevMax next to the Stop and Shop on Bedford Street as this Main Street location is larger. Do wish they had a customer bathroom like TotalWine in Norwalk though, and do wish they had a wider selection of cocktail syrups. Layout is easy to understand though, and it's easy to find what you're looking for. read more

Not only do they have everything you're looking for, they have hard to find products as well. If you're looking for gifts, this is the place. All the "sets" of bottles with glasses, shakers, openers, etc. that people enjoying getting as gifts. They always have two or more lanes open so there's not a lot of waiting to check out. They'll give you a box if you want and the parking lot is big enough so you don't have to park a mile away. Just be careful turning onto E. Main St. as people drive too fast sometimes. The friendly staff here is always asking if you need help finding anything. I came in looking for a specific beer, but on the way to the beer aisle we were detoured by a whiskey sampling. Not a bad way to get your customers to loosen the purse strings. They have a decent selection of beer and liquor and are reasonably priced for the area. read more

I love the staff at this location. They are always friendly and willing to help you out. The prices are a bit high but I love browsing their selections. Parking is okay but it's off of a busy road so getting in and out can be tricky. The store is rather big and have never had issues with the amount of customers even though the parking lot may seem full, Overall, it's a good local liquor store but not ideal for stocking up a bar, it's more of a quick stop kind of place. read more

Drove up on Tuesday, Jan. 24th to get a bottle of wine as a gift for a friend until I pulled up and heard such unprofessional and inappropriate language and yelling coming from the owner Carlos to his delivery boy. I was so appalled by the way he treated this young man, who is working to earn his pay to only be treated as if though he didn't matter. I can tell you that I will never step foot in this store again - you just lost a good weekly customer. Start learning to treat everyone the way you would like to be treated! read more

I don't know why I continue to go to this store. I guess out of convenience since it is next to Stop and Shop. The staff are nightmares. One is more miserable than the other. Terrible service. Placed an online order for curbside delivery and received confirming email that the order was filled and ready for pickup. When I went to pick it up, they couldn't find the order and told me to wait. After waiting 20 mins in the outside in the cold, I reluctantly went into the store. I find it overrated and not much of a discount from your local liquor store. I'd instead go to a local mom & pop liquor store.

Have had many great experiences here and will continue coming back. In response to some fellow Yelpers--I have not witnessed any poor customer service. In fact, when I went to buy a case of wine, an agent came over and discussed which type of wine would be suit me given the different requirements I had. He was nice and to the point (I hate when agents come up to you and just ramble; but he totally didn't!) When I went to the counter, I told him that I had left my loyalty card (which all of you should get--it's free!) and he said no problem; used an extra one, and placed my wines in a recycled case! TL; DR? Retail for a case of various quality reds (they carry Tempranillo, Bordeaux, Malbec, Sangiovese & much more!) for $235 without my loyalty card but with it came out to $205 with Tax!!! Definitely a must-go. Super convenient, great prices (especially compared to Boston, a 7 dollar bottle in Boston's Wegmans was $4.99 here!) save even more with their free loyalty card! read more

This is my go to spot in Stamford for alcohol. I've been coming here for years and it never lets me down. The staff is friendly, helpful and a lot of fun! They keep the lines moving and are always ready to give advice or suggestions if you're not quite sure what you're looking for. The prices are some of the best in the area! It's hard not to leave here with carts full of alcohol and beverages! There's so much try and at such competitive prices it's hard not to want to take everything home. Do not buy from BevMax. I am a young recent college graduate and was harassed at the store today with my friend. I was criticized for my appearance and refused service albeit being of legal age. I was threatened by a lady who obviously does not want customers to come to the store. She held me prisoner on a Sunday during football when I needed to make a quick trip that turned into an hour of hell. She told me I couldn't leave with my ids after providing every form of identification possible proving of age. After she called the cops because she didn't believe me she required me to go to my car to further prove with my registration I was of age. Then I waited almost an hour for a nonexistent manager to arrive. She finally returned our ids and I took my business elsewhere. I will be telling all of my working friends to avoid this establishment as it is not worth the harassment. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

It's huge. It's enormous. It's got everything. Did I mention it's big? Size does matter. Bev Max seriously is a warehouse of beer, liquor and wine. Anytime I've needed a particular type of alcohol...whether it be common, rare (like a crazy random bitters), or just a fun flavor of something...they always have it. Most of the reviews posted are helpful and the staff is always friendly. The only qualm is that parking and entering and exiting is a bit of a headache...but hopefully you won't be going daily so that it's a problem :) read more

Well it's no BevMo, but it's the best I can find so far on the east coast. Also the name made me think it would be like BevMo. Has a wider than the usual CT liquor store selection of exotic foreign beers, but not wide enough. It is more of a wine store than anything else as it is displayed in the front of the store and all other liquor is hidden around the corner in the back. But there is a lot of hard liquor to choose from as well. Maybe they'll increase their beer selection. Or maybe i'll find a better liquor store. read more

Awful experience with BevMax. Placed an online order on 9/3 for our team bonding ElixirToGo mixology class scheduled for 9/10. Did not receive any shipping confirmation from BevMax so I contacted them via their website on 9/7 asking about my order. Still no response so I called them on 9/8 and they finally say that the items were not in stock. They should have said so on their website or as soon as they knew. My team members and I were left scrambing shopping for items so that we can get everything in time for the 9/10 mixology class. Zero customer service. Instead of BevMax, go to BevMo. BevMo has online orders, 2 hour delivery, and lots of local stores for in-person pick-up. Their prices were better than what BevMax offered. read more

They intentionally misrepresent products online. I ordered several items and then received a product half the size or less than what was listed online and they make no attempt to fix this or provide any decent customer service! The only option offered was to come in to the store to return the items. I'm ordering online because I don't want to come into your store during a pandemic. Feel totally ripped off. Luckily I went through a third party provider so they will be taking care of my concerns but even they said the store made no attempt to correct this misinformation before fulfilling the order or offer any solutions after the fact. read more

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees how rude and discriminatory this store is. I was treated extremely rudely on two separate occasions, by two separate cashiers. I was chastised and harassed for my debit card chip being defective, even after I explained that the card works when swiped. I have NEVER had this problem anywhere but here. When the card worked perfectly, like I said it would, I never got any apology or even a friendly "have a good night." Plus, I used to buy from this store all the time. I was a loyal customer, and always extremely polite. I agree with all of the users who have pointed out their discriminatory ways. I guess they just profile people regularly. I used the on line store to order a fairly expensive bottle of XR Crown Royal Whisky. It was for a Birthday Present. I ordered it on the 18th and was told estimated delivery would be on the 31st. On the web site it says most orders are packed and shipped within 3-5 business days. After 10 days I had not heard anything so I contacted them, just to find out that unfortunately my order wasn't processed. They said they would process it at that moment. My order finally arrived on the 6th. (almost a week later than originally promised) I wasn't really expecting a discount, or some kind coupon towards a future purchase, but since they were at fault, the very least they could have done was expedite my shipping. Keep in mind that I received my order 6 days later than estimated, and 8 days after they said they were sorry and would processing my order at that moment. Needless to say the gift was late. read more

Great liquor store. It is conveniently located about a half mile from my house which makes it even better. Good selection of liquors, wine and fair selection of beer. Staff is friendly and on Friday and Saturdays they typically have distributors sampling various wines and liquors. Feels like walking through Stew Leonards with 3-4 sample locations. I'm a 22 year old from North Carolina working in Stamford. I came in to buy less than 20 dollars worth of alcohol and was refused service because my ID didn't look real. They kept stating that it's store policy to refuse me service, even when I showed them other forms of identification with the same birth date. I cannot understand how their store stays in business when it's their store policy to be incompetent. I know that an ordinary cashier may not have the experience to check IDs but there should at least be somebody there who can verify out of state IDs accurately read more

I don't understand the positive reviews of Bev Max. Yes, it is a large store and the selection is plentiful, but the customer service leaves a lot to be desired and that includes Management. Before Fairway opened I had no choice but to go to Bev Max. On Friday and Saturday evenings it is very crowded, but *note to management*, it is no excuse to treat customers like cattle. I have witnessed managers yelling at people to form straight lines and move to the next line. No respect given. The customer service is really no better. I love this bevmax. I find thier selection too be amazing. I once was looking for a specific beer that they didn't have at the time. I asked an employee to help and they actually ordered a case just so I could buy some. They are always super nice and willing to help. I also have to say they have an employee named Ty. He goes by "Ty the wine guy". He is great at reccomending wine for any price, or occasion. You can tell he really knows his stuff. Hands down the best liquor store I've been to so far. read more

Rude and not dog friendly at all. I was walking my dog on the red mulch next to the East Main Street and one of the staff came and told me that he doesn't like the dogs on their ground. I told him I have tons of bags (showed him the bags as well) and will pick up after them but he still insisted he doesn't like because of the dog pee pee. Ok first you do not have a lawn, the area I'm walking my dog is all mulch and again next to public street with no fence and no sign that dogs not allowed. Thanks for letting me know that you don't like the dogs and you will be losing your customer as well. Dog parents like me, watch out if your kids need a quick relief while you are visiting this place. read more

Some new kid working there has no customer relation skills and cost the store any future business. Had an attitude about scanning the cases of beer in the cart like it was too much work for him, and then had an attitude about ID and seeing everyone's, out of wallet. Everyone present over 21, the customer making the purchase is in his 60's. Meanwhile you see mothers taking their young kids in, you have to wonder if this genius is going to ask a 10 year old for ID. Not to mention this was over a $200 purchase. Plenty of liquor stores in the area, BevMax card went right in the trash. Manager should do a better job vetting employees or the owner should hire a new manager. Don't need attitude from an employee that doesn't even look like he reached puberty. read more

Huge selection of wine and liquors and prices are pretty good. I was disappointed however in the beer selection. Sure there was a pretty solid selection of craft brews, but I've encountered far better elsewhere, and most of them are warm. The refrigerated beer selection is very limited, so knocking it down a star for that. I can't believe a place this size can't devote more cooler space to craft beers. read more
