I was treated like a dog, and lesser than the staff- especially by the security guard Lucas (Fabio). They did not even allow me to call my federal agent I spent 5 days being lied to and neglected without sunlight. Mentioned security guard was anything but trauma informed and should not be working in that unit let alone that hospital. I came in for safety and left more suicidal that I came in with. People started calling missing persons reports on me until the Deputy of Beverly PD & Beth Israel's PD came to make sure I was still alive as they wouldn't let me call my agents. I took my mother here twenty minutes after she'd experienced two seizures. We sat for seven and a half hours with no treatment, surrounded by varying levels of pissed off patients. There were no ED rooms or even hall beds, so my mom got her vitals taken, an IV put in to draw blood, and then sent back to the waiting room for the duration. Same deal with all the other patients. The big TV was on the Discovery Channel equivalent of COPS the entire time so the room was stuck with a 50 inch TV with a bunch of aggressive cops and prison guards yelling at people and chasing down and tackling people on body cam footage - not exactly soothing or good for a room of people who essentially couldn't leave. The ED tech did her absolute best to manage expectations, but we never saw a doctor. We saw a PA 2am who basically agreed that the instructions we got from the on-call neurologist six hours earlier were .... fine. If we wanted to wait and get a CT scan, it would be easily another 4 hours. So we gave up and went home, untreated. Their Press Gainey score in the email request for review the hospital sent was conveniently worded so that there was no way to say "wanted to be seen by a doctor and never saw one." read more

Im here on behalf of my grandparents, the wait times in the emergency room are absolutely horrendous. We have been waiting upwards to 5 to 6 hours and there are people in here who have been waiting for longer than us. There are people in here who are actively suffering moaning, groaning, throwing up, in pain, begging to be seen and none of the nurses or staff are doing anything about it. It's inhumane, monstrous, and horrible. It's good to know if I ever needed to go in here for example if I was having a heart attack or a stroke or something that Id die before I even hit triage. went into Emergency room at 4am. Was seen right away. The nurses are all very kind and thorough Josh was GREAT!!! I was put in a room and immediately given IV and other meds. Insurance process was easy as well. Someone came to me instead of me having to go to another desk. I was moved to a quiet single room on 5th floor . My nurse Elyse was AMAZING. very kind and personable. The doctor situation was not as wonderful. I was only seen 1 time in the 32 hours I was there and I had to really push to get the doctor to come to my room. She seemed unfamiliar with my chart/case even though I had been there all that time. Didn't leave me with a good feeling.. I'm giving 4 stars because the nurses are the stars!!!!!! wish I could give 5 but not one for the doctor. Sorry. read more

Lets start by say, people use the ER likes its a doctors office or urgent care, and because of this behavior, the wait times everywhere are terrible. Beverly hospital's ER is no different. That being said, the staff make up the positive, and if you are looking for a job in the ED, you should consider it. Nursing staff is great, my problem is with food service, it sucks. I have a simple order same thing for all 3 meals, and they have missed at least 1 meal every day, it's simple. Just make the 2 items and deliver them on time and that can't seem to happen every day. Eating regularly is an important part of healing in the hospital and this hurts read more

I have been a patient a few times at this hospital and the bad reviews of the wait time in the ER just make me laugh. Unfortunately, people nowadays go to the ER for minor things or something that can be taken care of at and Urgent Care appointment. I have had nothing but great care and experience at this hospital. I went in for stomach pain, yes I waited 5 hours just to get to a bed, but once I got in there I was treated well and tests were scheduled and done to diagnose me. I ended up needing my gallbladder removed. They took great care of me. As a health care worker myself ER rooms everywhere flood with drug seekers or people that don't have proper health care so the go to the ER for something as simple as a STD test. People are triaged according to there syptoms and vitals at triage. Your only other option would be Salem Hosptial and that place I DO NOT recommend. read more

This hospital ER used to be good, if you need stitches you're probably ok going here, anything else, do not! I've had my own nightmare experience here recently, but ATM I'm here with my daughter ( it could be extremely serious ) our primary sent us to urgent care, UC sent us to the ER, the place is full of people, so far IV's have been put in incorrectly while leaving patients in the waiting room, one patient was not getting an ounce of meds through hers the other also didn't seem to go in, my daughters looks wrong & it's hurting, forget asking the women behind the glass THEY DON'T CARE! So I asked a person in scrubs that came out to get someone else, if she could please have a look, I got yelled at in front of everyone here for bothering this EMPLOYEE ! I very politely asked a relevant question about the IV, I was told harshly "I am not a nurse" & some other incoherent grumbles & angry gesturing!!! Ok it's busy I know but, why not then just say, I'll have someone come over & check when I can, that's all! Instead incredibly RUDE!! Yelling was unprofessional & unnecessary ! Thank you greeter at the front! ( Jen ) She is a shining & caring STAR! She apologized for the awful treatment brought my daughter a drink & ice pack for her arm, & was the only one with it enough to care & alert the woman waiting over an hour for her fluids to go in, to realize they were not! My 84 year old mother was at this hospital, because she lost a few teeth they place on her restrictive diet. She was served macaroni and cheese everyday for meals. Today, for a meal they gave her a cold burger no buns. She complained and they served her three slices of cheese for dinner. Outrageous. read more

I sat in the ER with my daughter and listened to the nurses mock patients and their needs. When a patient was deemed dangerous, and security was called to be prepared, my 20 year old.daughter was placed in a room with this person. He arrived, handcuffed to the hospital, but was unlocked once he was in a room with other patients. I've been here a couple times let's say Beverly hospital is a lot better then Salem I was on my 5 hour in Salem waiting to be attended and they were planning on adding more hours if I didn't realize oh wait I have insurance fuck this lemme go to Beverly hospital they attended me in less then an hour ( it was packed I've been there multiple times for the same issue which is caused by smoking a lot of weed I know it's my fault ) but the nurse who attended me had may appear mean and unprofessional but one nurse told me you've been here for the same problem to avoid coming here how hard is it for you not to smoke I'm tired of seeing you here for the same reason it was mean at the moment BUT she was right tho haven't been there since I was in the hospital for 2 days (2 years ago) because I've had a severe virus and both days they were great I talked to a travel nurse who legit has motivated me to go from CNA to a travel nurse I just started my program mind u the nurses who stay there and treated me weren't mean at least to me I'm the type of person that I need to walk or look out the hall and drink lots of fuilds they let me do all that unlike Salem hospital who would push me back into my room as soon as I tried to walk a little and refused to get me drinks unless I go and get it myself Beverly always offered me multiple options for beverages BUT I DO understand where people are coming from with taking too long and not being treated well because as a CNA I've seen some just do it for the money and being awful and mean for no reason so just because I had a good experience I'd listen to some reviews and get there names to report them and get there degree taken away ! If there excuses is they are overworked then don't work so much I know my limit to recharge and be the best caregiver I can be if these NURSES can't do that they can say bye bye to the degree they worked for simple as that . read more

They never have beds when you go to the ER so you're forced to be sick/in pain in the waiting room. It's dehumanizing to moan in pain and throw up in front of a room full of strangers. Once you're checked in, medical staff will not even look at you or ask if you're ok, when you're clearly not. When they do call your name, they watch you struggle to get up and walk over to them. The days of hospital staff assisting patients and having time for sympathy are long gone. read more

I gave birth to both of my children at this hospital, and it was the most wonderful experience. I cannot recommend Beverly Hospital enough: the nurses were SO caring, SO attentive... and they seemed like they love what they do. The bedside manner was really great... maybe one nurse in a sea of nurses was a little rushed, but in general the nursing staff on the birthing floor was incredible. Years later I even went back to see the nurse (Nurse Nancy) who helped me out to my car with my newborn son... I just wanted to thank her again and give her a hug! She was so sweet to us while we were there. Ironically, the one bad experience was with the doctor who ultimately delivered my baby... she was a bit cold and abrupt. I have only warm feeling for Beverly, and for the Women's Health center. I have not experienced the ER... so can't speak for that. read more

Surgical care by charge nurse, named "Diana", who works on the 6th floor. I have interstitial cystitis, chronic pancreatitis, adrenal insufficiency, gasstoparasis, a broken neck, broken ribs from apirating due to vocal cord being paralyzed from the neck surgery, etc. I've been on a lot of meds due to my conditions. Well, Diana, called me a drug addiction because of all the medication I require, which btw I'm only on 2 different pain medication. She refused to call the doctor on my request because she knew she was in the wrong when I told her I needed a sleeping pill, that I had surgery this morning and the pain is keeping me awake. She refused to call the doctor because she said I was on a lot of medication which I'm not because I can't have anything to eat or drink by mouth. This left me with limited selection of what I could have for iv medication. Diana said she gave me up as a patient because I was too much. She made accusations which were not true. For example the bag I have hanging from my stomach is flimsy. One little plastic spout opened while I was getting into bed and the gunk from the surgery got all over me before I realized what had happened. So Diana accused me of "playing" with the bag. Diana works on Johnson six floor. She is by far not a professional and is having difficulty keeping up with her responsibilities. I could go on yet I'm too upset right now and crying. No patient should be treated as I have been. Never. read more

I am not comfortable with Lahey's guidance in the patient handbook. If I could, I would give them negative scores based on this guidance. I worked in the medical field for years. As health care providers, we educated all family members shift after shift and it is a huge part of customer service. A nurse at Beverly Hospital snapped at me when I asked a question about my mother who a patient was there. She was so rude and unhelpful. For people living in some isolated area of Cape Ann Massachusetts, it appears to be the only game in town. I suggest they drive further to seek a better health care system. Spokesperson / Caregiver / HCP The staff will ask you to identify a spokesperson who can assist with communicating information to your loved ones. This person may be a friend or family member with whom you feel comfortable sharing your personal health information. Your spokesperson can relay this information as needed to other friends and family members. By having one point of contact, your health care team can spend more time providing the care and services you need. The staff will also ask you if you have a caregiver. A caregiver is the person who will be taking care of you at home. We will notify this person when you are ready to leave the hospital, and with your permission, provide them with information about your discharge plan so they can help you when you leave. Your spokesperson and your caregiver can be the same person, and they can also be your Health Care Proxy (HCP). We highly recommend anyone over the age of 18 complete a HCP form. That way if anything unexpected happens, you have already named a person who can make medical decisions for you if you can not. Please note that the HCP is not activated until a doctor deems it necessary. For assistance with this form, or any questions you have, ask to speak with a Case Manager or Social Worker. read more

With so many bad reviews of the ER, I thought people should read a good one. I brought my husband to the ER because food was stuck in his esophagus. He was gagging and vomitting for 2 hours. He is stubborn and figured it would resolve on its own. By the time he agreed to go to the ER he couldn't breathe. Everyone in the ER--the Greeter, the doctor, the nurses and the radiology staff were excellent. My husband received immediate care. He was wheeled directly into a room, and the doctor and two nurses were right by his side. The care he received was outstanding! Everyone treated him with kindness and compassion. I couldn't have asked for more. His symptoms were resolved within 1 1/2 hours. He was released with instructions to see a gastrologist next week for more tests. read more

On July 16th of this year I arrived at the endoscopy unit for a colonoscopy. The nurse took me into the unit got me ready and before I went into the procedure room the anesthesiologist came over to talk to me. When she was done I looked her right in the eye and told her please keep an eye on me because last week when I had an upper endoscopy the doctor told me that I struggled to breathe several times I was in the sedation. They bring me into the room they complete the procedure and I'm laying in the recovery area. My doctor wakes me up and now I have a sharp pain in my left eye so I start to rub it. The nurse yells at me don't rub it I'm going to get a doctor from ophthalmology to come and take a look at it. A lady doctor comes down takes a look at it shines a light in my eye and tells me I have a scratch on my cornea. I said how did that happen. She goes into the procedure room he finds the nurse who is in there with me the nurse told her that the oxygen mask I was wearing moved and the corner of it to scratch my eye. I said isn't that just wonderful I told the anesthesiologist to keep an eye on me. When I get home the pain is excruciating my eye is burning and feels like someone's stabbing in there with an ice pick. Had to endure that pain from 6:30 at night until 9:00 the next morning when I got an appointment with my eye doctor he confirmed there was an abrasion put a contact lens band aid medication on my eye and gave me a prescription. During the three days it took to heal I couldn't see anything but a blur out of that eye both my eyes were watering and burning my vision was so impaired that I missed work and couldn't leave the house. Then I got to thinking the opthamologist who looked at my eye in the hospital she is supposed to know what she's doing didn't she realize that I was going to be in pain afterwards maybe she should have taken the time to treat me. read more

last night I went into the ER at 6 p.m. screaming in pain from sciatica....I was told that there were no beds so I needed to wait...if anyone has had sciatica before you know you cannot sit, lay down etc......I was taken in at 10:15. Why? Because I was told the ER was for much sicker people than me. (That's service for you) According to the "Greeter" so! At around 10:15 I was taken back.The Nurse Practitioner came in and in about 2 minutes diagnosed me..( I knew what it was I've been there) Anyway all I needed was a script....an hour later I left at about !2 a.m. Beverly Hospital ER was one of the worst experiences I have ever had...wish I knew the name of the "greeter" She bordered on cruel. Nope it was cruel. I paced for 4.5 hours.............Friday April 22 6pm. to midnight. Never again....the older people were leaving left and right. I guess we don't count. I was wishing the Greeter to have sciatica one day ! I understand that the kid who walked in deserved MORE attention...In and out! Oh, older couples who came in just left.....They don't care. I was recently treated at the ER at Beverly Hospital and I just have to say the team that treated me on Friday Oct. 11th was absolutely wonderful and extremely skilled in their work. I arrived early afternoon with an infection which was concerning because I was only a couple weeks preop of open heart surgery. After walking in, I was immediately seen by the staff, vitals taken and told I would be quickly moved to a room for treatment. Within 5 minutes I was in a room and being treated by a kind, knowledgeable, empathetic and very skilled team of medical personnel that clearly cared about my well being and made sure I was comfortable. During the next couple hours they all worked diligently and skillfully to diagnose the infection and develop a treatment plan. I was released a couple hours later having been treated and feeling much better. I can't thank them all enough for their kindness, concern, empathy and compassion. Already don't have a good foot forward with this hospital, but I wanted to give them a second shot. Had to go to the ER because of some pain I was having and for the most part I had a great experience. MOST of the nurses were very pleasant and the doctor I had was absolutely amazing, but one nurse was very UNpleasant. Dark haired younger girl black shirt with maybe a flag on it ?idk.. Was super rude or maybe tired ? But still shouldn't be rude. She wasn't even my nurse but she was around and asked where the bathroom was and she shot back with "EXCUSE ME" ?! And a pointer finger in the wrong direction .. sorry I didn't know I couldn't pee ? Sick of the nurses here being rude time and time again when I come here. The wait at the ER is absurd. Many staffers roaming around aimlessly. The team clustered in the ER check-in desk area had the communication skills of a band-aid. One lady silently directed to me a room to silently take my vitals and then silently abandoned me. I then spent an hour+ back in the waiting area. The ER at beverly was horrible.I sat in the waiting room for 5 hours with severe back pain. They could offer some water to people that are thirsty and in pain.When Finally got into a room there was no pillows and they walk out and it seems like a long time before they come back.I was hoping to get a narcotic for this horrible pain. They gave me one but no no we cant write you out a script so I guess Im going to find someone who sells them. Because the hospitals dont care about the people who innocently need them. Do you enjoy sitting around in agony for hours waiting for a non-existent doctor to help you? Then this place can't be beat!!! Extremely poor communication, crowded rooms and absurdly long wait times make this one of the worst hospitals I have ever experienced. My mother was transported to the ER via ambulance and spent over 11 hours in the ER waiting to be tested and diagnosed before being admitted with virtually no communication from the doctors or nurses throughout most of the time. I was present for 6 (6!!!) hours that afternoon and not a single doctor came by to update us during that time. Every time the nurse came by they would say something that was news to us and they kept asking "oh, the doctor didn't tell you?". No - actually the Doctor could have driven to Montreal in the amount of time it's been since anyone last saw them. The ER is a disaster - there were at least 5 people sitting in stretchers in the hallway for the ENTIRE day. Meanwhile, there was an ER employee who just sat in a chair in the hallway and did nothing for 3 hours straight. There was a person moaning and screaming for hours on end and nobody did anything to help them. When my mother was finally admitted she got placed in a room with 3 other people. There's only 1 sink in the room, which she was next to so people would come over to use it while she is trying to rest - there is virtually no privacy. The doctors stopped by maybe once per day on average - they are either incredibly unmotivated or extremely under-staffed. When the doctor did stop by to talk to my mother, they looked at me like I didn't belong there and asked my mother if it was OK if I hear about her health issues - meanwhile there are 3 other patients and 2 of their visitors in the room who can hear EVERYTHING and the doctor never asked if it was OK for any of them to hear her medical issues. Visit to emergency room for dog bite. Triage was lacking or absent patients were waiting in line while staff sat not busy. When asked when they would take a name at least they responded that nurse only allows one patient at a time Not a good response in my opinion. When the nurse finally took vital signs did not even glance towards the site of the bite to see if it was freely bleeding or had to have any immediate first aid such as gauze or ice. ERs are notorious for the wait time. But one does expect at least acknowledgement and cursory glance at the reason for visit Not a place I would want to tell anyone to visit. Urgent care centers may have been a better choice. But did not know severity of the wound Who ever manages this aspect of Beverly hospital should at least encourage a bit of competence and a level customer service. 2 hours later there is still no attempt to look at the wound. No triage could possibly have been done without at least a cursory assessment. Yet the walls have several posters saying how it all begins with triage.
