Touchdown is the downstairs bar in the Rydges Hotel at Sydney Airport. I'm not sure what is more…read moreconfusing: the fact that it is named after an American football term; or the fact that they couldn't make a basic cocktail correctly. (More on that later). The vibe here was laid back sports bar with a focus on beers, wine and simple drinks. Sadly, the beer list was short and standard (Australian macrobrews like VB, Carlton, etc.) The short food list was actually better than I expected, with a selection of apps (wings, meatballs), entrees (burgers, steak, salmon) and desserts. It was certainly enough to suit me, so I ate here for dinner and watched some local sports (continuing my increasing fascination with cricket). My burger and fries were pretty good, and just what I wanted. But after a few mediocre beers I decided to test the bar by ordering something basic. Specifically, I asked for an Old Fashioned (It's a never-ending quest). The young bartender got busy, muddling some fruit, adding sugar and bitters, before finally adding the liquor (which I couldn't see). The result tasted familiar, but strange...REALLY strange. I sipped slowly, but it never got any better. After about 15 minutes, the bartender proudly showed me the single malt scotch he made it with... [Insert Forehead Slap here]. No wonder it tasted strange - This drink is made with Rye or Bourbon only; and what a waste of a single malt! Dear management- you might want to think about training your bartenders to do something more than pour wine and beer.

Polished staircases, fountains, atriums, indoor plants, Pokies, bistros, Pokies, Yum cha aaaand more Pokies. Cash is king! Incase you aren't a fan of pokies there are also a lot of different bars. There's Bingo and there are lounge areas with sports channels on so you can drop Frank off at the TAB while you brunch with the golden girls. The staff are immaculately dressed, polite and helpful. You need to be a member if you live in the area, or at least be signed in by one. Benefits include cheaper drinks, and I'm sure you gain points if you swipe in. The Club also has function rooms for hire, if you are planning a Wedding, Party, anything. Yum cha, is cheap and you pre- order it on a card Dress is smart casual, so don't wear your hi-vis vest. Actually open until about 3am on the weekends and offer a shuttle bus service for $4 pick up and drop off if you live nearby. Wuuut? With the 10pm bottle O close outs and the CBD lock ins that have just come in why not take advantage of a closer to home, more convenient venue? Good for groups, or parents of young kids, and it's a Nanna approved venue.

After this we were forced into the bistro to eat after our 1.5 hour drive only for the food to be served 40mins after we ordered and for the orders to be wrong. The food at best was passable and the service definetly not with a smile. To top it off my friend who is slightly autistic (a factor in his baby-face-ness) was not at all accommodated in his needs and judged with discriminatory fashion. I would not recommend the revesby workers club. I was so disapointed at this venue I went to the effort of creating an account on here to voice my anger.

I guess the porch really did it for me - one of those newer pubs that deliberately created a porch where patrons could sit at with a beer in hand and either chat, or read a book if they are like me. The other thing is that they also had a decent selection of beers on tap, and that is always going to win me over.

I was blown away by the size of the venue - massive, cozy, different styles of seating including round booths perfect for larger groups, fireplace, 2 kitchens (one for wood-fired food such as burgers and pizza and roast chicken and one normal kitchen). Could fit couple hundred of people?! Also impressive was the food. Crispy buffalo wings made with Frank's hot sauce (super legit!), massive chicken parmis smothered in melted cheese, great burgers. I got the 1/2 Portuguese chicken with peri peri sauce... DELICIOUS! Plus, the prices were definitely lower than Sydney prices but I guess it's more in the suburbs. For dessert I ordered the sticky date pudding. It wasn't the best, but the vanilla ice cream made up for that :) We'll be back! Looking forward to eating my way through the menu.

They renovated a few years ago and it's now a lot more pleasant with a lovely beer garden that houses the Bank's great Thai restaurant, and that is also venue to a ripping game of 2-Up on Anzac Day. I'm sure they do other stuff in here but they're the only things I've done downstairs! My preferred spot is in the windows, watching the peak of King Street crazy from a safe vantage-point while nestling a beer. The Bank is also famous for it's long-running Wednesday night Girl's night (for girls who like girls) and as I saw on the poster outside, they are kicking off Summer with a Drag Queen hosted "Sausage Fest". It was a Friday night, and the place wasn't too packed, it was calm and responsible - which wasn't what I thought it would be by the interior and exterior contemporary design - looked more publish, with a TAB & late night cosy couches. Maybe it was just the cold weather. The outside was where I spent the most of my time, and it was pleasant, and lively at times, and one of the biggest courtyards I've seen. Beware of the many smokers that use this area, on the flip side, it's smoker friendly. The drinks were well priced, and the specials were great, the bar tenders were very helpful in recommending some different drink inventions. Although the overall place missed a vibe I was used to, and it just wasn't the most interesting place to have a few drinks.
