Bring your snorkel & goggles .... It's pool time !!!

I'm an Inner Westie so The G. B. ...... has become one of my favorites over many years. It's the friendly staff ..... and locals that really make it happen for me. The two pool tables are pretty cool .... at just $2 a game it quickly becomes a place to hang for long periods of time. The beer is spot on .... so many on tap to choose from ..... the usual suspects as well as our much loved favorite local brews. The food is spot on .... the eating quarters modern, comfortable with heaps of space. The garden well planned and pretty in design is another highlight. The GB has become a great pub to visit or incorporated into a pub crawl so it's high in my books ..... and in my book it feels comfortable and familiar ..... cosy with many fond memories.

Fast becoming our second home, as we live just down the street. Cool laid back atmosphere with friendly and accommodating bar staff. Nice beer garden out back, and any time I've eaten at the bistro I've been satisfied. Doesn't get too crowded, which is good, but the regular local clientele give it a fun yet warm and relaxing atmosphere...

Nicest bar staff ever. Always up for a chat and very welcoming. Can't go past the free pool and jukebox Wednesdays! Free pool on Tuesdays and $1 on Sundays. Food out the back in the freshly renovated beer garden is ways a pleasure. Love this place.

There's no reasonable explanation why, but every time I talk about this place I can't help humming "upon the fields of baaaarley". Oh Sting, you kill me. Weird habits aside, this place is awesome. Head straight to the beer garden out the back. Okay, maybe via the bar, but that huge outdoor area is definitely calling your name. The Golden Barley is good for groups, with a bunch of big tables, umbrellas, a couple of pool tables and a jukebox on-site. Built in 1939, this pub is the grand old dame of art deco, with many of its old features kept intact. It's also a good spot to catch a game of rugby with the locals - there are plasma screens, a few different bars and a bottle shop attached.

Great hangout, cold beers…read more We showed up later, so we were able to find a seat and get quick access to the main bar. We ordered in person but each table has the ability to order directly to the table. The upstairs bar closes early, but the party remained downstairs The pints are served full and cold. The barkeeps are super nice. It is a place that is more mature than the surrounding clubs, so despite being loud and dimly lit, it will not have the rowdiness and strobing light of the youth filled locales. Great for chilling.

I recently went back here for the rooftop cinemas and watched Die Hard with my friends on a Tuesday…read morenight. We booked online for 10 bucks each and came here around 7PM. The movie didn't start right away, so we grabbed some food. They have pretty good deals from Mon-Thurs. $15 for parm and pint on Tuesdays! And its huge and you also get fries and salad. I didn't feel like eating that so I got the mushroom and haloumi burger, which was really nice. It came with these ginormous wedges - both regular and sweet potato. Good but too thick for my taste. Had some of my friend's chips, which was yummy. After we ate, we proceeded to the roof top. It was a long way up, had to climb numerous stairs! The set up of the movie was really cool. They had the tables laid out and had our names on paper reserved on the table. Mine said Rachel Q and her crew, which I thought was really cool. We sat down and they started handing out headphones. Its pretty cool because they are loud enough and you feel like you're in the actual theatre. For the 10 bucks, you also get a glass of red or white wine or a beer, which is a really great deal. In addition, they passed out popcorn! Huge fan, will come back for more silent movie fun!

Fun bar in Sydney head up the stairs to the semi open rooftop bar. Good food and drinks.read more

In spite of the name, this is actually not a hotel. Hotel has a double meaning in Australia as I…read morehave learned. It can be a place of lodging, but also many pubs use it as well as it relates to past liquor laws. Using the term "hotel" as a way to skirt liquor licensing regulations. Strawberry Hills is a nice Aussie pub just down the street from Central Railway Station. It looks a little divey on the outside, but the 2nd floor interior is quite nice and stylish and even has free Wi-Fi. This is a good spot to get a drink and quality pub food at a reasonable price in Sydney. If you are dining upstairs, you order your food and drinks at the counter. If you are dining in, the staff then brings the food to your table when it is ready. While they do have a wine menu, there isn't one for the large assortment of beers and cider on tap. If you are not sure what to order, I would list the types of beer and cider that you like to find one that suits you. As for the food, there is a regular menu consisting of pub food and a late night menu of different pizzas. The pricing here is quite reasonable as most mains (name for entree in Australia) are under $20. Had a Sunday night dinner here and opted for the slow cooked lamb shoulder ($18) with a pint of Bulmers cider ($7). I chose lamb because it is harder to find this meat on menus in the US, whereas in Australia it seems to be a standard offering. The lamb was terrific as the meat was fall off the bone tender. There was a bit of fat and gristle on the lamb, but I was okay with this since this helped to accentuate the meat's flavor. The accompanying roasted vegetables and red wine jus were also delicious and complimented the lamb. As for the cider, it was my first time trying Bulmers and I really liked it. It has a very crisp and refreshing taste that paired well with my meal. Enjoyed my meal at Strawberry Hills. The food and drinks here are good and value for your money. I like the ambiance of this pub too as it is modern, yet is casual enough to be a local drinking hole that you frequent regularly.
