Great neighborhood pub, great Arsenal FC bar, great food. And a few more words to make that 85-character word count!

Barstools with this intriguing logo.

Is this a dive bar? Is it an eatery? Whatever Beulahland wants to call itself, I'm down. This was just steps away from our Airbnb and boy were we glad we stumbled upon this gem. I wish this place existed in my neighborhood. This place is dark, fun, and a great place to hang out with friends. Two bartenders handling the situation for the entire place and they did it well. Service was great, drinks were cheap and well poured, and the company fantastic. This is a local place that takes great care of their clientele. You will not be disappointed when you step up to the bar and order your choice of libations. They will be served with expertise and efficiency.

First, the name. I was always intrigued by the name. What's "Beulahland"? Well, my friends, Beulah is a biblical reference to the land of the Israelites--a land to which they will return, and which is described as an earthly paradise. So Beulahland is heaven on earth, get it? That is, if heaven is a cozy dive-bar. I've lived in walking distance to this place for going on 20 years now, so I always think of Beulahland as one of those last vestiges of "Old Portland". That said, it's not exactly "old-old". I think it was opened in 1997. Still, 1997 Portland was a much different place. Much grungier, but also more working class that PMC. This stretch of 28th Avenue was a lot sketchier, with Beaulahland and Hungry Tiger (bad Chinese food and stiff cocktails, R.I.P.) and the Lauralhurst Theatre, and Holman's, and also a good number of boarded up store fronts. It's long since gentrified, with recent installments of the now ubiquitous five story spanking new apartment buildings and more upscale establishments. Beulahland is an anchor of old 28th, and I love it for that. This place has a punk rock vibe to me, but it's not punk rock bar. It's more like (as many people claim) a divey Cheers. A friendly neighborhood bar. It's got a huge wrap around bar that sort of divides the place into 3 segments. The front has a few windowfront seats, and the rest is divided left and right. On the left you have TV, pinball, and cozy seats. On the right you have this odd wood panelled seating area reminiscent of the animatronic Country Bear Jamboree at Disneyland. Beauland has breakfast and brunch daily, and lunch and dinner. The food is decent pub style, but by no means fancy. Good burgers and fries. Full bar, with well made cocktails and attentive bartenders. Decent taps. There is street side outdoor seating a la Covid-19. It's just a super chill place to hang out with friends and have a drink and a bite.

We all wish for the everything bar: good and creative drink, great food, vibe, service, and maybe parking. They scored on all the aforementioned, with the food just okay. The Iced Spanish Coffee hit the spot on a hot day. Kudos to Beulahland for creating a vibrant World Cup viewing venue. They satisfy various needs.

This is a really cool comfortable bar. The music is not too loud and service is excellent. They have three sections as you walk in. The middle section is small and has a couple of tables. The right section has a big screen TV. The left section has few small tables and the actual bar area. There is also a small outdoor seating area by the sidewalk. Their beer selection could be improved though, and if I remember correctly, they have mixed drinks. The food is excellent here, and they have a few very well-thought-out vegan items. There is only one bathroom, and it seems that it's always occupied. If you use the bathroom, make sure the lock latches if you don't want someone walking in on you :-)

Always a chill place to grab drinks with friends. It's a spacious place that has some unique decorations, but seems to fit right in the neighborhood. The drinks are not spendy and the food is decent.

Ask the Community - Beulahland

Is there dancing? DJ? Live music?

Well there are DJs but dancing is not recomended. It would require more insurance than we currently carry. Mostly just bring your kicks and kick it

Curious if the photobooth has a bench or a stool inside?

That would be a stool. (Sounds weird when I say it)

This is a stunning burger…read more I have come here an embarrassing amount of times since moving back to Portland. The first time I came alone, just a little hungry and a lot broke. So I got the $6 little pleasure burger. A simple, single patty smash burger. It's everything a McDonald's burger wishes it could be - beefy and drippy, a squishy, slightly sweet bun, oozing hot grease without being heavy, lacy and crisp edges, and held together with the right amount of American cheese. It was the perfect amount for that day. Then I returned with my date. Twice. And he brought his coworkers for lunch because he liked it so much. I have had the western and the mushroom burger since, as well as the parm and chive waffle fries. They have nuggets and I'm inclined to believe they're great. The staff is great, it's a small team and they're all there every single day. They care about their product and your experience. The space is a simple counter, not good for large groups. It should be noted that even though their burgers would be great with a beer, they don't seem to have a liquor license! So don't expect an IPA with that shroom burger. Maybe someday!

The water is serve yourself which I actually prefer. There wasn't a ton of seating on the cashier level but there is more seating upstairs which we did not visit to take a look at. There's also plenty of seating outside and covered tent seating. It took about 12-15 minutes for the food to be served which was ideal. Must've been on that zaza I ordered the Morrison and tried the Steel this time around. I have to say, I'm going to ditch the chicken next time and go with the Steel!! I also tried the sellwood and I have to say, both are really tasty. IMO. This BBQ is Kansas City style, so the sauce is a bit sweeter. We got the brisket, the chicken wings, and sides. We couldn't decide if on the sauce for the wings, so we got all 3 on the side. The Alabama white sauce was A+ The brisket was perfectly tender. It had great flavor and marbling. The wings are full wings with the drummette attached. That's the way to do it! They are smoked and then fried. They got the crisp just right. Let's talk about sides! We got the collard greens, coleslaw, and baked beans. They were all FANTASTIC! The coleslaw is a vinegar coleslaw, which I love. It wasn't the sweet mayonnaise style that most people don't enjoy. It was so good! The collard greens were perfectly flavored and tender! I couldn't have done better myself. The beans were sweet but also savory. Not super sweet, which makes me happy. Very well balanced. The server was super friendly and nice. She explained everything to us and made sure we were happy. They have a bar with various beers. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Very casual but perfect for BBQ. Highly recommend you try this spot!
