Adolescent Ward In…read more2019, I was admitted after an attempt. A van picked me up from the hospital on the south side of Abilene. All of my belongings were taken from me, and I had to strip off all my clothes, spending my entire stay wearing a hospital gown. I wasn't given shoes until my second-to-last day there. The building had a prison-like atmosphere, surrounded by a 15-foot fence, cinderblock walls, and keypads on every door. They tried to drug me with depressants, but I refused to take them, and my parents agreed that I shouldn't. There was a counselor, referred to as "the doctor in charge of discharging patients," and a therapist who came once or twice a week. The therapist would have all the male patients sit at a table and talk about things that could distract us from our depressive thoughts. She'd then have us write down how we felt on a piece of paper. This approach was highly ineffective at addressing the root causes of depression or helping those with suicidal thoughts. Whenever I saw the counselor, all he did was try to convert me to Christianity, insisting that going to church would fix me.

This is the absolute worse place to go. From the second you walk in your on lock down. It makes it…read moreseem like you can walk freely outside because of the large fenced in area. You cannot. Your outside time includes every 4 hour smoke breaks in a tiny portion 10 foot brick wall. It is a lockdown facility. Lots of slamming doors and dangling keys. You feel like your in jail. In intake I was asked several questions and said I had thoughts of suicide never that I acted or had planned to act. Well I get in there the first night and people are so screwed up on meds it's like watching a zombie movie. The staff is incredibly rude especially the nurse yyvone. The second I realized I was not where I was supposed to be I asked for discharge. She laughed in my face and told me your crazy the doctor will keep you in here and if you keep on with this aggression he will make you be court ordered to stay. I was not being aggressive I was simply asking basic right questions. A very nice lady took me aside and calmed me down and let me smoke. Her name was Claudia. She told me to sleep it off and I could be gone by morning I just had to be on my best behavior. At 430 that morning I was woken up to someone banging on my head screaming labs!!!! You have to do your labs wake up NOWWW!!!!! She instantly handed me a pee cup and said go piss in this now and hurry up. So I went half asleep, (after just falling asleep bc the staff was laughing and taking loudly the whole night) and I got out the bathroom and they said now give us your arm we need blood. I calmly asked for what?? You can't take my blood without me knowing what for and they slammed my arm on the table Nd said hold still. And as they were taking it said its for thyroid don't worry about it. I didn't sleep after that say enough bc I was traumatized. I got up ate breakfast it was good, and noticed the breakfast slash visitation area was a lot more homier than the rest of the place. It was clear to me they didn't want visitors to see what was rally going on. All of the windows had sunlight shining through, it was clean, and there was an ice Nd water dispenser. Well that was funny because the only time we were offered water was at 9 pm. Once a day. So their giving a show to visitors that you don't see inside All of the windows are blurred out for minimal sunshine and outside view (which is a great way to heal, nature and sunlight) I went back to sleep and the doctor Daniel came into my room and was very nice and asked how I was doing I said great I'm so good and he said okay well we're going to get you out of here. I got so happy. So I attended a morning group (which was bs and full of bogus things that only few people show up to because most everyone is in bed so messed up on medication) and dr Daniel comes yelling in the room you get over here now. He says he needs to talk to me and PUSHES me In their room. And said what is this I hear about you wanting to do this and that to hurt yourself (YELLING). I said uhhhh no. I said I had thoughts. Thoughts and actually doing something or wanting to do something are two different things. He yelled and slammed his hand on the desk and said I'm going to get a court order for you to stay im not doing this bs with you!!!!!!! And stormed out of the room. He made me feel like dirt on the ground. So unprofessional and no caring heart at all. In this time frame a social worker named Debra came in who was excellent. She was so nice and loving and gave me ideas where to get a job. She was amazing but I would not attend this place just to see her again nope. No way. They don't tell you its co Ed and it is. Some of the guys really creeped me out and they are allowed to hang out in girl pod as well as girls hang out in guy pod. This place is a joke. It was the most traumatic experience I have EVER had. as soon as I got into fresh air I took a deep breath and had a two hour panic attack. I felt so trapped and violated and treated like crap. It made me sad for the people that actually did get so drugged they couldn't even walk or see straight. They have no idea what's going on bc their too messed up. I truly believe I was tortured at this place. I'm so glad I was released. I wouldn't suggest this to my worst enemy.

I've been to a few massage therapists but Debbie by far is the most amazing. Her prices are the…read moresame as any other and she has TONS of experience to show. Every time I get my chiro adjustment I always see Debbie the same day. I don't ever leave reviews but she is so good I had to leave a review. If you're considering getting a massage you NEED to see Debbie she is the best, no one is better than her. Not too soft but not too rough, she's very soothing and it's almost like her calmness transfers to you (kind of like being around happy people makes you happy?). She's also a counselor but I haven't used her services for that as I don't have a need for it.

I had a psychological evaluation of my 5 year old by Dr. Roger Russell. His wife spoke to me a good…read morebit, we turned in rating papers from both parents and his teacher, and then his wife met with my son for maybe 15-20 minutes. Dr. Russell never even met my son once. He diagnosed him with ODD, which was absurd in my opinion for several reasons, but also because he had never said one word to my son. He refused to re-consider this. I started my son with Patrick Heard, who was largely monotoned, unanimated and unhelpful. He mostly talked to me about parenting techniques for his anger and emotional regulation instead of talking to or working with my son. Session after session, it would be me recounting any incidents we'd had and giving me tips of behavioral charts or responding, etc. the same things I've heard and tried before, some of which help and some of which don't. After several sessions, I explained I wanted to try another therapist to see if he would connect better with that one, so we tried Alison Massey. She was very nice and tried to build rapport with my son, but he clammed up for her worse than I've ever seen him do, so after 3 sessions I realized he was not going to open to up Alison in order to make any progress. I attempted to go back to Patrick, and Patrick refused to see my son any longer because he "didn't like that I had jumped around between him and Alison." Overall, I found Dr. Russell trigger happy to diagnose very young children with disorders without any true evidence and without talking to them. The counselors were not friendly with me, and tried to turn the sessions with my child into parenting sessions with me, despite a background and training in child development and being very knowledgeable on parenting techniques. No one connected with or tried very hard to invest in my son and his issues. The worst counseling office I've ever experienced.

Appointment Time (1 out of 5): I was on a two week waiting list for three months…read more Atmosphere: (3 out 5) It's a nice office. The waiting room is a bit cold and spartan, but the therapy rooms are nice. It's a little too fancy for my taste. I like something warm and inviting - this makes me feel I'm visiting an insurance office. Office Staff (1 out of 5): The girl at the desk has never cracked a smile. She's very young and looks like a professional, but doesn't use professional service. They also inputted my insurance wrong the first time, leading to a plethora of phone calls to my cell while I was working. I asked them to call my work number instead during, but that went unheeded. I was very frustrated with this, but just got a temporary print out of his card for proof that they had inputted his information wrong. Therapists (1 out of 5): Let me be clear: The therapist I saw does not care about her patients. You are better off going to the Marriage and Family Institute at ACU. The first session, she was not warm towards my son, nor did she try to connect with him. She watched him, asked him a few inane questions, let him play with some toys and she expected me, his mother to fill in the rest. She didn't know what to do with him. The Meat of the Review: I specifically asked for morning appointments, and I explained that it was easier for me to ask off from work in the mornings than in the afternoons after my son gets out of school. We scheduled two appointments in advance, and I asked off for both of those days from work. A week before the first appointment, the receptionist called to ask if I could reschedule, telling me the therapist needs to take her mother to the doctor on the morning of question. At this point, I became irate. I have been on a waiting list for three months to get into this office, and they have given me heck over their mistake on my insurance. (I had assumed it was my mistake until they informed me otherwise.) The reschedule was my last straw. I told them how upset I was and displeased with the service. At this point, I have already asked for hours off from work that I could not work. As a blue collar family, every hour at work counts! I told them under no circumstances could I reschedule, that the therapist would need to reschedule her appointment for her mother since I had already made arrangements at work. The therapist calls me back and drops my son from their patient list because I could not be "more flexible" with her. She was apparently offended that I told her to reschedule HER appointment since I had already made arrangements at my job for that morning. The end result? This therapist obviously doesn't care to help anyone, and she's rude to her patients. I guess I could be afford to be rude, inconsiderate, and harsh to my patients too if I was getting paid $100.00 an hour.
