Bettius HVAC has been absolutely amazing for us the past few years, from their excellent install of a new HVAC during the pandemic to their continued support of said system since then. This past week we had a part failure on our heat pump, and Mike personally walked us through various troubleshooting procedures over the phone before coming by to examine the unit in person. He ended up ordering a replacement part, coming back the next day and spending over an hour installing it and ensuring it was working properly. And for all this work, four years after installation? No charge at all. Mike has been in the business for years, and genuinely sees his customers as valuable, long-term relationships. Recently, I called because my 11 year old water heater was leaking. He noticed it had a 12 year warrantee, called the manufacturer and obtained a comparable model for free; so I only paid for labor. Mike is an honest, no nonsense guy! Our A/C unit in our home was having issues. We called our Home Warranty Service company who sent NS Heating and Cooling from Woodbridge to troubleshoot and make necessary repairs. A representative from NS Heating and Cooling, Omar, called after inspecting and stated there was a leak and a failed Thermal Expansion Valve that needed to be replaced. The warranty company refused to cover the expenses. When I contacted Omar, he gave me wildly different quotes to conduct the repair. Starting with almost $1,300 down to $800. He stated the part was almost $300 and $200 of refrigerant would be needed. He also would not provide a written estimate via email as I requested over the phone. I contacted Mike at Bettius, who stated the Thermal Expansion Valve is actually under warranty at no cost and there should be little charge for refrigerant because it can be captured and put back in to the system after the repair with little loss. I contacted Omar and NS Heating and Cooling and requested the old Thermal Expansion Valve so I could exchange it for a new one under warranty. He returned the valve after a few days, but he cut the power tube off the top of the valve, voiding the warranty. Mike provided an honest assessment and stated the previous contractor provided extremely poor and dishonest work. Refrigerant was all over the A/C unit, floor and walls of the basement. He also expressed frustration that NS Heating and Cooling would cut the power tube on purpose so that I would not be able to exchange it under warranty. Mike got the part the next day and spent the evening fixing the previous contractor's disaster. He provided a fair price for honest work. Something that's hard to find these days. read more

Middle of July temperature is 100, I was away at my son's baseball tournament, and our air conditioner went out at home. Well I called the guy who installed it years ago. He asked when was it installed I said I guess a few years ago, well he looks it up, and it was twelve years ago to be exact. I though well at least I've not had trouble in 12 years so that's good. Recently, my husband contacted them when our 14-year old HVAC system's heat pump stopped working. Mr. Bettius came the next day. After checking our HVAC and not finding any problems with the system, he checked our thermostat and found it was set incorrectly (by us). I used Michael Bettius a few times. The first was after moving into my new condo and the A/C stopped working. He came by quickly and replaced the thermostat, which corrected the problem. The second time I called him was a few years later when my a/c again went out. To his credit, he came over for an emergency visit late on a Saturday night and filled up the freeon in my leaking unit. He said he could replace the unit for me at a reasonable price and we worked out a time for him to come back for installation. He didn't even charge me for the emergency visit or freeon that visit. I was so appreciative. He seems like a very nice guy. Unfortunately, after he installed my new unit, I had continous problems from the get go. The a/c continuously stopped functioning. I had the unit 5 years, and he needed to make a house call at least 1 or 2 times a year to come by and fix the unit, which inevitably stopped blowing cool air every year. On one visit, he admitted I had a leak. This was a NEW unit. He did not charge me on any of these visits, as it was under warranty. But the stress of worrying about my unit constantly going out and having to miss work to meet him was annoying. Now I am six years since I had the unit installed and it crashed once again. Since the warranty ran out, I called another company to come check it out. They pointed out corrosion from the leak and said even though I had the unit installed 6 years ago, it was still a 10 year old unit. They said it was not the best quality model and it also had not been installed in the best possible way. So now I am purchasing another unit, when this should have lasted longer than this. What I am paying now for a better model isn't even that more expensive - and it's six years later! I think Mike Bettius seems like a nice guy and may have done his best, but in the end I got burned and cannot recommend him other than for minor maintenance related fixes. read more

He came out same day I called him, had great communication, and was able to identify and fix the problem quickly. Turned out that the capacitor needed to be replaced. I have been dealing with Mike Bettius for 20 years! He replaced my original heating/AC unit back in 1998 (unit was 30 years old) with a new system, which I still have. He comes to service it bi-annually, and it has been a good system overall. Of the few times I have had an issue that needed to be addressed immediately, Mike came to the rescue...usually the same day. I guess I have been spoiled by this, as it's not uncommon for people to wait days, or even a week, to get service when dealing with other companies. Mike always works diligently until the issue has been resolved. What I am also impressed with is that Mike never tries to sell/oversell a product. He will keep your current system going (even when it's out of warranty) if he feels that it's something that can be fixed. I am contemplating a new unit in the future. I had an old AC unit, over 20 years old. It was time to get a new one and was recommended to contact Bettius HVAC by a good friend. Mike came out and gave an honest assessment of my unit and whether I could fix or replace it. Because the unit was 20 years old, it was out of compliance to today's standards so Mike gave me the run down and explained what I needed to do and proposed several scenarios to get it right. I went with a new condensing unit, replaced the indoor coil with case, rerouted the electrical, and brought everything to today's standards.
