They saved…read moremy dog Hei-Hei's life, and I will forever be grateful for their compassion, skill, and generosity. Our 7 lb. Chihuahua had been wasting away, dropping to 5.5 lbs. due to a severe dental infection. His white blood cell count was elevated, he was in pain, and they also discovered early-stage renal failure. We were terrified, but Santaluz Animal Care went above and beyond. We explained that we could only afford $1,000, and they stayed within budget without cutting corners. They did full blood work, a complete dental extraction, all necessary medications, a prescription diet change, X-rays to ensure no roots were left, ear cleaning, nail trimming, and anal gland expression--all at no extra charge. We were nervous about anesthesia, but Dr. Johnson reassured us that Hei-Hei would do wonderfully and even confirmed his heart was as strong as a younger dog's. What truly amazed us was their flexibility and kindness. On Tuesday, 02/11/25, they took him in immediately--even though they don't typically accept same-day emergencies. They also don't do extractions on Wednesdays, meaning we might have had to wait until Thursday, 02/13/25--a delay he may not have survived. Dr. Johnson was empathetic, kind, and accommodating. My husband had to handle everything alone, and they treated him with so much care and respect. From start to finish, the entire staff showed an incredible level of dedication and compassion. If you need a vet that truly cares and will go the extra mile for your pet, Santaluz Animal Care is the place to go. They didn't just save our dog's life--they gave us more precious years with him. We are beyond thankful! Highly recommend!

He had a few chronic issues (dry eyes, arthritis, lumps, etc) so he came here fairly often during that year and a half and was always so excited to get there and see everyone and was always well cared for. When Blue first came in with a bleed they quickly took him in, stabilized him and facilitated his transfer to VCA for emergency surgery (at night on a weekend). That bought us 8 more weeks with him and Dr. Noppinger even emailed me to check on him and us afterwards. When his time came they met us with a gurney and took us up the side entrance to a private room with blankets and windows, everyone came to say goodbye and his tail wagged every time. They were patient and kind, took care of everything we'd need and even sent an incredibly sweet card in the mail signed with thoughtful notes from a bunch of the staff. Really couldn't ask for anything more, I was blown away by the care and kindness. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.

They perform the I-131 iodine radiation therapy which is the gold standard and a cure for over 95% of cats suffering from hyperthyroidism From the first phone call they were sympathetic and helpful. I met with Dr Hewes and she spent a lot of time discussing the process the pros and cons (since we didn't have T-4 number showing as medicated ) Kidney disease could be unmasked. The trial medication period gives true kidney values under normal T-4 . Unlike other clinics that I researched Dr Hewes scans the thyroid She identified the diseased tissue and location , this to tailor the dose. We opted for the more comprehensive heart scan / cardiology work up and discovered heart disease which made the I-131 the best choice for Charlie He spent 4 nights in the hospital due to radiation levels and currently post 30 days his numbers are within normal. The clinic has a cat cam operating between 9am -4pm. The only feedback I could give is providing larger cat cages/. Maybe duel level condos so the litter pan is separate from the food and water. Charlie is a large cat and I know he would have appreciated more space. Overall though I can't recommend Dr Hewes enough. She truly cares about her patients and was so good about calling us and updating while Charlie was in isolation.

She understood and respected our objective in taking the most ethical and educated decision for our girl guided by science. She took the time and effort to help us understand the CT scan preliminary findings in great depth, we were full of questions and she patiently answered all of them without dismissing perhaps even the most ignorant of our questions. They went out of the way in expediting our full & final interpreted CT report (Thank you Dr.Wallack) since we needed the report before an oncologist consult the next day, to be able to have a meaningful data-driven discussion on her disease (cancer) extent. Dr.Hewes followed up proactively with us over phone promptly the next day to double check if we had any lingering or newer questions after having received the final detailed CT report. We were greatly touched by the compassion she showed by treating our dog as an individual to be given a fair chance through in-depth diagnostics, without prejudice about her seniority or age.

He would stress out so much. The doctor kept telling me to put him down because of it. She was very pushy about it. She said I was being a horrible person to keep him alive. Well I went to a different place that was able to save his life at a reasonable price. They found his heart was the problem, was the reason he was building up water fluid in his belly, and pooping blood. He got meds and he lived another year and a half. It was better than having him put to sleep that day. I was crying, visibly upset. He was my baby. I knew my dog, I told her he is like that. He gets so nervous he has a nervous reaction and she said no that's not normal. He must have neurological problems. I think doctors should consider the opinion of the pet parent who knows their dogs best. I am so upset at the prices the American vets charge pet parents specially during this hard struggling economy. Most have been taken over by for profit systems and can care less for the pets it's such a shame. Not sure if this one has but the prices that are astronomical from most makes me believe so.
