Took my niece here today. The gentleman was extra nice. She got the plant she wanted. They have so many different varieties. Which I know nothing about. But we will be back because again, my niece loved it. read more

Been here twice and both times service was stellar. They're very knowledgeable and helpful. Took the time to explain anything and everything I asked about....soil, fertilizer, etc. They sell common to rare plants, pots of all shapes/sizes, all kinds of fertilizers and soil mediums....I bought a few "rare" plants and find their prices better than fair. Will definitely be returning for more plants, soil and moss poles. Also, they will repot plants for a small fee and there's plenty of street parking! read more

The service provided by the staff was great and the mushroom substrate with mushroom spores really yielded mushrooms. The picture is the 3 day of mushroom growth. First noticeable growth occurred on the 3rd day after I brought the mushrom block from the store. Work involved just misting the cut turkey bag with water and keeping it under low lighting in the kitchen. Growing mushroom is fun!!!! Thanks to the staff who introduced me to the mushrooms. read more

This is a hidden gem in Pasadena! They have tons of beautiful rare plants for reasonable prices including the albo monstera borsigiana! They sell lecca and aroid mixes too and coco coir. The customer service is great. Most plant shops in LA are closing but this one is still surviving, we need to support local plant shops. I can't believe I just discovered this great plant shop. read more

Planting my first garden and read great reviews for Fox Farm potting soil and started my hunt locally. Checked out Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Anderson's all were priced over $20 per bag, BetterGrow Hydro had the same soil and size for $17! Items will take well over a week to receive and they will not contact you if there is a delay or an item is out of stock. Website states "most orders shipped next day". After a 10 days with no shipping confirmation I called. The order was being held as something was out of stock, but would be shipped in two days as the item was now available. My order arrived and only two items were delivered. I called again and was informed that the missing item was no longer available and they had sent an email. Unfortunately, I did not receive this email (I searched all inboxes). read more

Not sure why the reviews are so bad here. I've gone here twice now and both experiences were stellar. The staff both times were extremely helpful and answered all my questions. Don't be shy to ask! Ordered a Big Blue 4" Inline Ozone Generator. Mostly happy with it so far. Exactly what I needed and a niche enough item that BGH was the only reputable place selling them. Only drawback to the product is its just ever so slightly bigger than 4" so 4" ducting doesn't cit around either end. But duct tape fixed the problem reasonably well. Shipping was reasonably priced. Shipped in a timely manor. Adequate packaging. Product in good condition when it arrived. Tracking number included. Would buy from again. read more

I called in advance to only be forgotten about while on hold. Called back and had to describe the product they sell. After being placed on hold again I was told they had 2 cu ft of what I needed in the store. Drove there to pick up. The lady that opens the door tells me that there is more than 1 lady working there so I needed to re-describe their product to only be told they didn't have it. Then that they did but only 1 cu ft! Terrible service. Not very knowledgeable about their own products and were not apologetic about the mixup. Will not be going back. read more

Hands down the best grow shop I've come across, and it's a family owned small business! They always make sure I'm taken care of and continue to give the best grow advice. They've never tried to oversell me on anything, they may even give you a discount without any coupon or anything! I could talk all day about how awesome and helpful they are but you should go find out for yourself @28xxFarms read more

Very corrupt company. Price is different as compared to online. Very dishonest in my eyes

The owner (Dave) is a total jerk. Refused to honor a sale price listed on his website. Some BS excuse about the website not updating -- HIS fault, but he basically said "tough $hit -- I'm not going to sell it to you at that price". Of course I wasn't going to do business with this guy, so I ended up finding the item at Web Hydroponics for 10% less than BGH, AND their shipping was flat-rate $5.95 (very reasonable). BGH was going to charge $14.95 for ground shipping for the same item -- that's called padding your profits by over-charging shipping. Truly a dick move ! read more

My husband is a gardening freak. A freak. Well, if you know me, then you know why he's a freak. But that's beside the point. My man grows just about anything. His thumb is purple, which is better than green. His passion has been cacti and succulents for years. And he manages to grow a lot of his rare and eclectic collection from seed. (Not an easy thing to do.) Recently he learned about cacti faring well from hydroponics. So today while toddling about doing chores, hubby says he wants to stop by the hydro store. Been eyeballing it for a while. I was sort of on the aversion side of this place thinking the usual nefarious stuff I think --if not for any other reason than my own nefarious indulgences. (Call me Mrs. Kettle!) But I was more than pleasantly surprised by this place. We were greeted with outstanding, not pushy, but welcoming customer service. Service that was knowledgeable about plants, horticulture, hydroponics all the way around, the politics of organic and more. Not only that, Marco took his time with us, we were there probably an hour or so before even making a small purchase (book). What struck me was a passion for what they do at this store. This isn't a hydro-gonna-grow-some-greenage-hippy-dippy joint by any means. (Although we all know the appreciation for hydro yields with our brothers and sistahs who grow some funk of their own.... hey, pass that over here!) It's gardening for grown ups. It's love of self-sufficiency. It's appreciation for plants, the planet, good nutrition, balance in politics... and some super friendly conversation too. I think I love this place (insert stupid Partridge Family song here) and know my husband will be spending a lot of time and moolah at the hydro store. read more

I'm not a hydroponic gardener. In fact, 2013 is the first year I had any remote success at gardening and it was still at the cost of a lot of plants who died to make me a better gardener, and I'm still at the newbie basil, rosemary, spider plants, and golden pothos level. However, that minute level of success still gave me the urge to plant some magnificent cherry tomatoes in 2014. If I don't succeed I still want to die trying! (Or have my plants die trying for me!) Since I can only have 5 gallon tomato containers, I figure hydroponic is probably my best shot, so I came to this store to do some research today. The person that helped me was friendly and not pushy and told me all the cheapy options I can use to try hydroponics for a year and see how I like it. What I found out in addition to that is they also sell organic fertilizers for regular potted plants! Amazing right? The prices in this store are super competitive with the prices I saw online too. I'm still not entirely certain I'm going to try hydroponics in 2014, but if I do, I sure know where I'm getting the supplies. Also, whatever happens with my tomato adventure, I know I'll be getting the fertilizers from this store in the future. read more

Good place to get all your growing equipment. I only hat driving there because the exit ramp is always full with big rigs. They have everything you need for indoor growing and outdoor growing. They also have grow tents that are top rated, I can speak from experience because I own one. I do not grow hydroponically but they have a variety of hydroponic systems. Staff Is very knowledgeable and has been a great help setting up my first indoor grow room. So I would definitely recommend this place, they have anything a beginner grower and commercial grower will need. -fdd2blk read more

Another on of my Favorite Hydro shops. They have a well stocked inventory and the staff is super cool. They have Web Wednesdays which lets you purchase in store at internet prices. They even carry Canna... Canna is tough to find at stores because Canna has tougher distribution requirements. They brew their own teas which I hear are phenomenal. I talk to Nick a lot and he has a gang of knowledge because he tests a lot of their products personally. They've suggested a few products that actually saved me money and worked better... Thanks Guys! read more

I can't believe some online randoms can just leave one star for credit card problems, that are probably their own. I've never used their online store but I'm not sure I understand why anyone needs to order hydroponic supplies over the net. There are so many brick and mortar stores all over the U.S. Being that there are so many stores out there anyone within 25-30 minutes of this place should be stoked they're here. There isn't anything I've ever needed that these guys haven't had in stock. Okay, maybe once or twice, but they ordered it and it was ready for pick-up the next day. The entire staff has got to be one of the most experienced anywhere in California much less Los Angeles. One of the best things about these guys is that they don't try and talk you into the next best thing an owner has seen at a grow show. I've found -- having gone to hydro stores since the 90's -- so many of them are a) loathe to give you real advice and/or b) are staffed by sketchy people. This place is neither and is a genuine resource. I'll never shop anywhere else. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! Especially if you are buying items that can leak or possibly cause damage to your skin or whatever else it touches. They neglect to package liquids in a manner that is safe and will not allow the container to move around and open in transit. My hands got burned due to their negligent packaging. I emailed them about it they tried to blame it on the delivery driver who handles it from truck to doorstep, promised me a refund which I never asked for, and then denied me the refund basically calling me a liar. After several attempts to get the refund I was offered and promised based on their own negligence I was simply completely ignored. So in the end I got a partially empty bottle of what I ordered which loses potency because it was opened, my palms burning and discolored due to the unsafe packaging of the bottle , accusations of making the whole thing up, and then treated like I don't exist. If you like not getting what you paid for and then being called a liar because they failed to package things properly then by all means shop here. Hopefully you don't buy something that causes damage to your skin. THE WORST PLACE EVER !!!!! I've never been so mistreated in my life. read more

This hydroponic store carries most everything you can think of. Knowledgable staff. The store itself is cramped quarters. Too much product for such little store space. I had alot of questions answered by the guys behind the counter. It's nice to see someone that actually knows what they're talking about at a specialty store. I can't tell you what kind of retards they hire at Armstrong gardeinig sometimes. Ask for the ona filters if you have to divert odors from growing onions etc. The only odd thing is they have plants growing in the store and they didn't look too healthy. They had bug damage and were all discoloring so I dunno about that one. read more

I bought a few things at Better Grow, one item in particular was a General Hydroponics Rainforest 66. The holidays were pretty busy, and I totally forgot about my new project. Three weeks into January I decided to get the Rainforest going. I sprouted 6 seeds in Rockwool. I then cleaned everything, and assembled the unit. That's when I realised the motor seems to be a little wonky. I've never seen this thing before so I wasn't sure it wasn't me. As it functioned, there was no way it could work. I tried to contact GH, the manufacturer of the unit, a few times but with no response. I was a little pissed about that. I then tried BEtter Grow Hydro. It was an email at almost 5:00 on a Saturday. An associate emailed back forty-five minutes later. We had quite a conversation 10 emails ending shortly after 9. The conversation picked up again on Monday. BG had gotten ahold General Hydro and had a direct line for me. I called, turns out GH was doing some maintenance on their network and it appears thats why they never wrote back. So the Rep. drop shipped the new motor, and some bonus nutes to BG for me to pick up. So, BG got back with my first correspondence well within an hour on a Saturday evening. We discussed a few options including a full return. They got a direct contact number for me. Their diligence led to my learning that General Hydro isn't just a big a$$ company that doesn't care about customer service... This really isn't that big a deal but I was piiiiissed, and was prepared to never buy their stuff again. Maybe I just really dig customer service. I think we all like to be taken care of. You get excited when buying something, then when it all goes south you need hell. It's like going on a cruise and finding out halfway to Mexico that they will only be serving burnt grilled cheese sandwiches, and warm milk for breakfast lunch and dinner. Don't get a sad sandwich. read more

Note: This is a review for the Better Grow Hydro online store only, as I've never visited the physical location. I think they have a pretty good selection of gardening products, but the customer service leaves something to be desired. First of all, they have the worst credit card policy ever. If you want to ship your order to an alternate address (i.e. not your billing address), BGH requires you to call your credit card company and add this alternate address on your card. They explained to me that this was an "extra security measure." Ok, so I complied even though I've never had an issue with this before when shopping online... Then I ended up playing phone tag with a customer service rep and after no one returned my calls or email, I resorted to the "online live chat" option to speak with someone who might be able to update me on the status of my order. This rep insisted that I had to give her my credit card company's number so that she could "verify that the address change was made."Why is that even necessary? I already confirmed it, so she shouldn't have to. At this point, I just cancelled my order because it was almost 2 weeks after I first placed the order and I still had to jump hoops to get them to process it. Unbelievable. read more

Mr. David G (owner) is having real trouble with the facts, not entirely surprised. He did not speak with me so the fact is he does not know what was said. I spoke only with a woman who was keeping store policy (I felt sorry for her). They would not take my order over the phone and they would not order what I needed without my first driving 2 hours and paying in person. OK, these are items you sell from your website, why can't you order the $75 worth of pots you don't have in stock and even take my credit card number as surety and then call me when you have the full order and then I'll drive over and you can get any identification items you need from me? Folks, what are they out? Businesses do this kind of thing for us all the time. As I said, it is just a mindset toward lousy customer service and most customers will know precisely what I am talking about. Contrary to Mr. David's comment, I most certainly expressed unhappiness with this "policy" to the lady I spoke with and told her I would be going elsewhere to do my purchases, which I did. I found it interesting that David's written solution to this whole thing is that I should have gone elsewhere for my purchases (customers? case in point, right?) which, as I said, I did without needing his advice to do so. As regarding my sending him a copy of my review, many businesses would consider this a courtesy (I am a business owner). He viewed it as "rubbing it in our faces." Many businesses would want to know about a customer's bad experience with their business. Not David. He has my email and my phone number but never bothered to use either. This was written for other potential customers to consider. I think Mr. David has done a sufficient job in expressing his own attitude toward the customer. I still say some people shouldn't be in business. read more

Slow to ship stuff out----takes them at least five days to begin to think about shipping. Returns are a hassle if you get them to accept a return. If it is glass and it breaks going to you they let you hassle with Fedex. Once ordered a light "kit" that included a reflector, bulb and separate ballast. Reflector showed up but not the bulb or the ballast.
