The movers told me it should take about 5 hours, it took TWELVE! The entire process was so slow and inefficient and lots of misuse of time. Why does it take two guys to cellophane one piece of furniture? Every time they moved item downstairs they would take at least 20-30 minutes to return back up and at one point one i caught one of the guys just sitting in my office chair. The elevator for the building is older but fully functioning. Out of frustration I started bring as many items as I could down myself and I had to walk them through getting a bed threw my door that they said wouldn't fit. It did! And then of course an extra $25 for every floor to bring it down the stairs. Very frustrated I called the owner to have more guys to help this process move faster and they reassured me the unloading should be much faster. IT WAS NOT. It took another 6 hours to complete the move in and my dresser was left with 3 cracks of damage. Through this whole process I had to go to the bank twice to make sure I had enough cash for all the hours wracking up. It seems the right questions or prep for this move were just not asked or these guys were just ill equipped, prepped or inexperienced. Either way horrible experience, horrible customer service.

It was going to be a hassle to move several couches and chairs from the 3rd floor, disassemble them and then reassemble at our new place so we called for help and asked for a few quotes before settling on Larry who had a fair price. Two days prior the emails said: "Confirming Sunday at 11?"... "Yes, see you then". Here's how it went down on Sunday... 11:10 I spoke with Asi because there was no sign of the movers and she said Ricardo (the foreman) will call me soon. So this is already 10 minutes PAST when the appointment was. 11:33 Ricardo calls and say he should be there by noon. I asked him where he was and he tells me El Segundo (!). I tell him he's not going to get to Granada Hills (!) in 27 minutes and he says "maybe 45". I asked him why he didn't call me to tell me he was running late and he says they got caught up with the other job they were on. That's fine but WTF didn't you call me?? None of that is all that horrible except for the fact that there are THREE of us who blocked out 4 hours of our day to do this. Ricardo and Asi could have told me at 10:15 (while we were still eating breakfast!) that they were being held up. They knew they were in El Segundo and KNEW they were not going to be on time!! How hard is it to call and say, "sorry but we are running behind... can we push an hour or would you like to re-schedule?" But, instead, I got the usual bullshit. Ricardo says "well, it was really a window between 11 and 12". Really?? When were you going to share that part with me? ... I have three emails saying "see you at 11!" and no emails saying "Dear customer, please track us down when you get tired of waiting and maybe we will get there within a couple of hours." Even if it was a one hour window, you would have been late! I don't do late and I try to avoid people that bullshit. Everyone has a phone... use it. I told Ricardo to forget it, that we didn't have time to wait any longer. We actually did have plans that couldn't wait but there was also no way I was going to get drilled any harder by Ricardo. Though I have to say, it would have been a lot more gratifying to just leave and let Ricardo drive to Granada Hills and find us gone. I'll bet he'd know how to use his phone then! Clearly, looking at these reviews, a lot more people are happy with them than unhappy... but, in my opinion, the rules of business have changed... missing a scheduled appointment like this is the same as being late for a job interview. It won't end in you getting the job. Unless you are, like, ten times more charming that that Arnold on Green Acres.

The reason I am giving them five now is because I just used a different local moving company to pack my apartment and load a truck I rented, and I was highly dissatisfied with the service. I won't name this business, but the work did not reflect the cost and I wouldn't recommend that business to anyone. Comparing it to my experience with Stear, I knew I had to sit down and write the review. In July of 2021 I hired two workers to pack my 1 bedroom apartment, load their own truck, unload the truck at my new apartment, AND they drove the truck over to the nearby Goodwill so I could drop off four pieces of large furniture that I was donating for no extra charge. It took a total of 6 hours (my new apartment was only a few streets from my old one), and cost $800 pre-tip. One of the guys definitely worked his ass off the entire time, but I saw the other guy on his phone many times and slowly packing items. My roommate said she saw him chilling downstairs over to the side, and when he saw her he pretended to be working. That was the reason I was going to knock them down a star. But again, comparing the amount of work they got done in the time they did, and at the price they did it, to that of the company I just used, I am locking in at five stars. On top of that, all items were wrapped well enough that nothing was broken in the move, nor was I worried about it. They also knew obvious things like "wrap glass in wrapping paper before packing" and "don't pack living plants in boxes". That is in stark contrast to my recent experience. Here's a breakdown so you can get an idea of the competition: Stear (2021): -hired to pack 1 bedroom apartment and move items to new apartment (0.3 miles away) -I had more items in this move -they drove to a second location so I could drop off some furniture to be donated -all boxes and wrapping materials included in rate -2 men -I hardly did any work -$800 total -6 hours total Company #2 (2022): -hired to pack 1 bedroom apartment and load truck I rented -I didn't have items to donate and I had less items in this move -my dad and I were helping by packing and organizing the entire time -charged per box, wrapping materials "included" but they didn't have wrapping paper for fragile items (they used mine from my last move) -3 men (plus my dad and me) -they only had to pack and load a truck, didn't have to drive it anywhere -$700 total (was going to give me a "discount" at $760, I was like no) -4 hours 50 minutes total

However, after asking all my questions about my move and how long it would take, they became antagonistic. I am a single lady with not a lot of stuff to move. Everything was going to be packed already so the movers would just transport everything. I estimated no more than an hour to load, an hour to unload, and an hour to drive to my new place. The person said "let's do the math together" and said it would take 7-8 hours! I replied saying I find that hard to believe since my friends and I could move me in an hour at each place and we're not professionals. After I said that, I was told they wouldn't hook up my appliances, after they said they would. Or they would hook them up but would charge me extra. I don't trust these people. I just tried to get a quote and they were extremely rude as well as coming up with additional fees out of the blue. I do NOT recommend. EDIT: the guys response below is an example of how he will treat you. Very condescending. While he feels it is impossible to do that move, my friend and I were able to do the move in four hours and we are not professionals. There's some info for you. Previously when I moved, I had movers who can shrink wrap everything by themselves- one person with a some kind of tool. These guys took the shrink wrap and literally walked around with the furniture, so it took some time. I had to move some of the lighter boxes with my roommate downstairs to speed up the process. Another perk of hiring movers is because they can take apart your bed and put it together. Except the one guy who took bed apart took soooo long to do so. Again, manually doing it with a screwdriver instead of using power tools. I know that sometimes it's better not to use power tools so you don't damage the furniture but uhhh that's if you're inexperienced. Okay, not my biggest complaint. Here's the part that is the most bothersome. My bed is new and quite expensive. When they were wrapping up my bed, they left one piece (the footboard) behind. My guess is because it was the smallest piece but that doesn't mean you don't cover it up. They threw it in on top of a box and I brought it to their attention. The guys told me that it would be fine & they would throw a blanket on top of it. Well, now I have all these scruffs all along the side of my footboard. Yes, it may seem minor but it could of been avoided if they just shrink wrapped my footboard when I asked them to. Then I notice a missing screw between my bed & the attached side/night stand. Never brought it to my attention. Perhaps they thought I wouldn't realize it??? It's a pretty crucial piece actually as it holds the bottom shelf from sloping downwards. Now I have to support it with some books for the time being. If you do decide to move with them, make sure they wrap everything & check minor details.
