I pay to feel the burn but to be better educated about fitness. I have been a member of Planet Fitness for a while. They don't give you the personal treatment that Taddas does. Taddas is like family. This place is adequate for most exercisers; plenty of aerobic equipment and exercise machines, plus free weights, a small pool, and various exercise classes. They could use more free weights than they have, as I do have to wait sometimes for a piece of equipment. Compared to the Y that had a separate room for the weights, this place is totally open, as well as brighter and cleaner than the Y, and smells better. The demographic is older; almost no young adults and lots of retirees, and lacking the family programs the Y has, no children. The hours are good, starting at 5:30 am weekdays. Overall, this place is adequate but not a full-featured gym like, say, a Gold's. The prices are good, $38 for seniors.

I can walk to Crossfit East Decatur, so it fits the bill. The other thing that attracted me to this particular gym was the fact that they had movement in their website name. Walking into the business was welcoming enough. There was a class going and all looked pretty good. Someone noted my presence and came to talk to me. We talked, agreed on a time for me to come in and I headed out until then. I came back for my workout and the guy running the class had me fill out the waiver and then I started warming up. I looked around and I did note that the place is well equipped and has a good amount of space. People were friendly with a decent male female ratio. It wasn't too 'bro' either. We warmed up a little and then got right into the lead up to the WOD. I got some coaching on my form, which was good. The WOD itself was intense and everyone seemed to encourage each other. After the WOD, people talked the usual CF banter and included me somewhat. My gripes? No cool down, no skills work or strength work. Just a warmup and the WOD. I looked at the schedule and there weren't any variations advertised on the schedule either. I like the EMOM sections and the gymnastic work that really taxes my flexibility and my sense of balance. There just isn't enough cross in this Crossfit.
