My sorority rented the small pavilion for a picnic reunion which was a good time, like Angela said, "in the golden years of my youth," :D Since Mom lives around the corner, she and I, (and my fav. Sister) have driven Mom to and around Ditto to stop and eat lunch, enjoying the view of the TN river, and just take Mom on a "joyride." Yesterday, Mom and I did a Ditto visit and, sweet 88 year old Mom summed it up as she was reading the ancient "beautification award" outside the larger pavilion, she said "beautification award - for what?!?!?!" :D Ditto has always had so much potential to be a true destination for **so** long and it just falls short. I can't count the times local news would announce a restaurant coming to Ditto and then the masterplan to develop Ditto into a destination (uploaded to the photos) was so exciting! These great plans never seem to materialize. I get it - it floods; however, the masterplan seemed to have mitigation plans for that. I attended an event (wine tasting maybe) in large pavilion in the 80s and it looks like, as of yesterday, the pavilion has had zero updates and hardly much upkeep since then. I didn't bother walking in to get a look see, it was just unappealing from the parking lot, which is in crappy shape, too. I'm happy we have Ditto, and it is a nice place for a shady picnic by the marina, and the smaller Winstead Pavilion was a nice area for my sorority picnic/reunion. It's covered (of course) and has at least one ceiling fan, with easy parking. I just wish Huntsville's masterplans materialized more often than they seem to, and again, wish Ditto was more than a harbor, campsites, RV hookups, a small children's playground, ample fishing from the banks, pavilions, and dry docks.

You had to park on a giant rock hump. garbage on the site was everywhere. The area up front was not mowed or kept up in any way. There are no amenities up here, just in the back by the marina. The road was rough to park our RV. No military discounts. so if you are desperate for a one night stay, go for it. I will not be back.

I was told I could not pull into my site so I could evacuate quickly in an emergency. I liked the view of the lake out my windshield. There were a lot of cars and trucks pulled into sites. Following state logic, they should back in so they can evacuate quickly also. It made no sense.

When we pulled up at the dock at our scheduled return time, a young worker was already filling boats with gas cans (not a pump). He started filling ours, but ran out of gas midway. That immediately raised concerns, since there's no way to know how much was in the can before he started. My husband went into the store and was told the worker would have to go buy more gas, and it would be 30+ minutes before he came back. This was frustrating because they knew our boat was due back at 6 PM, yet chose to use up gas on other boats first instead of being prepared for us. We were told we'd be sent a receipt for the fuel, but we never got one--just a $100 charge. At $5 a gallon and a 24-gallon tank, the numbers don't add up, especially since the gauge showed between half and a quarter tank left when we returned it. Based on the math, I don't believe we actually used the amount of gas they charged us for, likely an extra $20-$30. The day on the water itself was great, but the lack of transparency with the gas, no receipt, and questionable accuracy in what we were charged left a sour note at the end. It's never a good feeling to feel like you have been ripped off. If you rent here, just be aware of how they handle fueling and charges.

The lakeis stocked with catfish, bream, bass and crappie. Other annual events are a classic car show and a fall festival. I always knew the park honored Sharon Johnston but didn't know anything about Sharon. Turns out she was quite the "dare devil" and was a stunt pilot who tragically died when her biplane crashed during an air show at the South Weymouth Air Station at the young age of 31. She lost control of the single engine plane during a series of spins and crashed. Her family donated the land to the community in her name because it was a place she loved dearly, where her father built a lake, worked to conserve wildlife, and taught his children about the wonders of nature. Since the 70s the park has really grown! Now it includes an arena (think horse arena - not concert venue), a marked walking/running course, rental pavilions, a playground with pavilion, Olympic sized swimming pool, campground for tent and RV camping, frisbee golf, and a shooting range. It's a cool park with some neat rustic touches like an old wooden carriage and log cabin styled structures.

Get there and was greeted by Miss Jesse She is the perfect picture of southern hospitality and genuine southern charm, a real champ and blessing to have met. The Farm Owner is so cool, just a perfect gentleman and loving guy ~ Harold, who came along for the ride and showed me his place. 175 acres of Tennessee's finest land tucked away in the back mountains with Black Angus grazing the land, oh and one special brown Jersey named "Amy" Breath taking views, 2 ponds with a really cool tree forest next to them. I got the blessing of having both Jess and Harold to guide me giving me the lay out of the land. Horses were great, beautiful animals because of course Jesse takes care of them like their her babies They do events there too - weddings, church services, family gatherings due to the beauty of the place. I recommend this place and will go back. There's nothing like being around folks who you feel like you've known for years - that's Jesse and Harold Lastly, the charge was $30 bucks for an hour which beats all of the rest big time and Jesse went over the time too on the trail ride. If and when you go please be sure to give a good tip because they deserve it. Cary
