Anyone YELPING a shelter with less than a perfect score is making me angry. That being said. The Bethlehem Inn is a godsend for Bend Oregon. With safe and clean housing, and also accountability for sober living, I have witnessed people get safety. Food. Shelter. And jobs. There is someone in your life that is one paycheck away from homelessness. And they don't want to impose on you. Do you have excess warm clothing? Canned food? Sleeping bags? Or, clothes to wear to a job interview? And have you ever had to ask for it? I have worked with shelters in Louisiana, Florida, Portland, Baker City, and Bend. Socks to sleeping bags. It is humbling. This particular transitional housing and food and clothing shelter is so overwhelmingly kind. The Bethlehem Inn is everything we want in order to give a hand up; not a hand out. read more

Passive aggressive extreme young inexperienced staff force residents to care for and out up with mentally ill clients who aggressively breaks rules. Poor communication, long wait times for case management, lack of knowledge about mental illness and how to deal with conflict, large administrative burden on clients seeking accomodations. Left note for a staff member and was accused of sexually trolling this staff member, simply bizarre. If you expect nothing and can deal with mentally ill people disrupting sleep, need no resources and have a car, this is like a hostel to get a break, save money, or recuperate from housing or work struggle. Otherwise it's large, alienating, and passive aggressive. Clothes, food, showers, warm rooms and quality beds. But management places an undue burden on residents with petty complaints and lack of direct support. read more

Today while we were dinning some lady with big glasses talk and skinny started yelling things like "woman work harder " then some other lady that stays here started going along with the hateful slurs then when I passed by ( I'm pretty and gay ) she said : oh and now they want to wear dresses then the employee at this facility had the audacity to reply : I know right or something along those lines ... lol and they have a sign with a rainbow saying : You are welcome I'm super grateful for the help but most of the time feels like you are a burden here good thing I got my head in the right place read more

What an amazing organization that serves some of the most vulnerable in the central oregon region. The only requirement is to remain clean and sober and a commitment toward a path of self sufficiency- the staff is welcoming and caring. Rules are enforced such as a curfew, a neat and made bed, as well as chores within your dorm. Intakes are every day except wednesday- and takes about 90 minutes to complete! if you're ready for a fresh start these guys are a terrific resource! read more

The staff at both the Bend and Redmond locations appear, on the surface, to be courteous, helpful, and kind to the people who seek shelter and resources to help them get back on their feet. But, be careful. Behind the scenes, they bitch and moan and complain about the residents. With doors open so that everyone, including residents, donors, and other people stopping by can hear them, staff will openly complain to each other about the residents and details of their case management meetings with the residents. This is confidential information, and peoples' info is often compromised because of staff's lacadasical attitudes. And, if anything goes wrong, the staff takes it out on the volunteers, who are NOT valued at all, despite what the ads always say. Volunteers are not considered staff, are not informed of any updates, because "they don't need to know", and staff just wants them to act like stupid little robots and just transfer all calls about everything to the oh so knowledgeable staff. This is not the place to do service work. You will not be of any value to this place. I worked there as part of the staff for awhile, but had to quit because of their blatant disclosure and disrespectful attitudes towards the volunteers. read more

The Bethlehem Inn hides behind Christianity and support for those Oregonians are those trying to move from another state to better their lives but instead they hold manipulated rules over you and give you one hour to get out under some non-biased reasons such as My Wife , my son and I got booted because somebody said we smell like 420 when we didn't I worked at chipotle so did My Wife I just got off work at five and by 630 we had to get out I know I smell like onions and chicken and Meat I smell like food from the restaurant I work at they timed us we had just an hour or they were going to call the cops if we weren't out in an hour my family and I had to drive with a half a tank and reach out to real family members to help us get back to California we had to leave our jobs. My son had to leave his school, his friends and all that because somebody said they smelt marijuana on us. I do not recommend this place to nobody if you need help go to Thrive get a motel these people don't care if you freeze to death in a tent. read more

I stayed at the Bethlehem Inn several years ago. I had a vehicle breakdown while passing through Bend [where I was born] on an extended RV vacation. I'm retired and travel in a vintage RV. Despite there being 5 or more RV service centers in this resort town, only 1 would work on a vintage rig [the others "prefer" the multi-gazillion $$$ RV clientele for obvious reasons]. The RV service center that "accepted" my rig was 6-8 weeks out on availability for a three day repair job. Although I had several thousand dollars for the repair, I didn't have $4,500 to $6,000 for a flea bag motel in Bend whilst I awaited the return of my RV. Here's my experience at Bethlehem Inn ... This place is WONDERFUL. The management and staff are empathetic, professional, well trained, well organized and have an INCREDIBLE amount of patience in dealing with the many "challenging" residents among their population. The "men's" digs were pretty sad [it was an old motel building with plenty of "deferred maintenance" issues]. However, it was safe and certainly adequate for the time being. At the very end of my stay they had just "broken ground" on a new building for the men. The women and families facility (which included a "state of the art" kitchen & commissary) had their "grand opening" during the last week of my stay. I toured it during their grand opening event and I found it to be a 1st Class facility [altho' obviously not a 5 Star "resort"]. The kitchen & commissary had just opened to serve both the men and the families the week BEFORE I arrived [altho' the living quarters were still under construction] The food was prepared and served by volunteers from the community with the assistance of the Inn's staff. I WAS ACCUSED OF USING HEROIN IN THE BATHROOM AND WAS ASKED TO LEAVE DUE TO STAFFS UNORGANIZED PAPERWORK. Incredibly rude staff. Unorganized and unprofessional. I stayed at the B.I for 3 days and was kicked out due to "missing curfew" even after filling out paper work AND having my manager at work inform them of my late schedule. After being kicked out at 11pm, after a full day of work, I was told I missed curfew which was a lie as I had copies of my late curfew paper work stating I worked until 10 that night. My stuff was collected by staff and put into a trash bag. Once I was settled in my new place later that night, I went through the bag to find mine AND someone else's clothes in the bag. Poor girl is going to be cold in the next few months, as it was two north face jackets. I told the staff before I left that they needed to grab my shampoo and conditioner and razor out of the bathroom as I had just bought the items, costing $20. They said I could return the next day to get the items. So today, I call to make sure I can get them, AND THEY SAY "you cannot return to the property because you were doing heroin in the bathroom." .....accused me of doing heroin in the restroom. Incredibly rude and unprofessional and borders on defamation. I do not recommend this facility. Staff has their heads up their own you-know-what's. read more
