Can't complain about Best Yard's service as they're insanely responsive, have a very quick turn around time (you can schedule them to come the following day- or at least that was the case for me), truly listened to what we needed and wanted done with our property and supplied us with extremely hard workers! The only reason why I took a star off is because I didn't notice ANYTHING when it came to weed control, even though I was notified a few different times that someone was coming to our house to take care of them (I think they came three times). This isn't a deal breaker for me, so we will probably use BestYard again in the Spring! read more

14 years with Chris Dominy's (the owner/operator) company. 2024 was the first year we ever had any real issue them (they were terrible at letting me know they were onsite post pandemic, but the work they did was always solid... and prior to then, they were absolute rockstars), and the problem ultimately turned out to be Chris and his lack of customer resolution skills, in my opinion. One of his techs tore out a section of lawn edging (photos included) when he aerated our lawn on 11 Jun 24, leaving a 2 to 3 foot section of torn and chewed metal exposed and hanging above the lawn edge for kids and HOA's alike... and never bothering to mention it. The tech scooted on me after damaging the property. Having had plenty of experience with managing tech's of a different sort, I can forgive odd personnel issues. Chris actually contacted me the day prior, but the question was if the Tech had ever even come out, to which I replied the negative, but then discovered the damage and aeration evidence that following morning, and sent him the photos you see attached. What can't be forgiven was Chris's response. It took him 2 full weeks to send out somebody to repair it. I got excuses, including him being on a trip out of town, but long story short, it was not until 24 Jun that I saw the repair. After only 3 (professional and polite) emails asking for an update (which I only started to send after a week of silence following "I'll look into it"), it was clear that I was a very serious inconvenience to Chris at this point, for wanting him to make good on his tech's error. The repair itself, no complaints. Chris emailed me personally yesterday, to inform me that his company no longer services my area. Got an onsite consult that expressed they would be able to help educate me on how to run my sprinklers, what additional hand watering I would need to do, etc. I also highlighted a section of my lawn that needed to be filled/seeded. They sent a quote regarding weekly mowing, weed prevention, and fertilization costs. When I started voicing weeds already coming, they did nothing about it. When I asked for help to understand how to water, they did nothing about it. They charged me for mowing my lawn, when my lawn had NOT been mowed that week. They were also going to charge $150 to simply turn my sprinklers on (a simple movement of a lever from perpendicular to parallel). Basically they did none of the things they promised me, and upcharged at every corner they could. Would not recommend. Updating my star rating from 1 to 2 stars due to the fact that Best Yard did come to do the Fall Yard Cleanup as promised today. As with all the actual services I've received, the result is perfect & my yard looks fantastic (hence the increase in star rating). However, it doesn't take away from the hassle I've experienced trying to coordinate on the office side of things (see previous review). For what it's worth, the owner said that this has been their worst year with being short staffed, illness, etc. However, my issue has always been lack of communication in booking with the office not any aspect beyond that piece of the business & I don't know how much this explanation covers those negatives. read more

Avoid this business at all costs. I've used their services for most of 2022 and compared to other services I've used in the past, BestYard is the absolute worst. Their Office Manager Tara is rude and unprofessional, they will charge you for services that either haven't been rendered or they have no faith in their work that they won't back it up when valid complaints are brought to them. If you use them, prepare to have to call your credit card company as the way they run payments seems to flag fraud services more times than it goes through. The photos I've attached are after several applications of their $80 landscape bed weed services. As you can see, they really did a terrible job at that. When I brought this up to them, Tara first told me I had only paid for lawn weed care, when I pointed out on the invoices that I had paid for landscape bed weed control, she basically said "tough luck, weeds are bad this year and we did our job properly". They don't have proper contact channels, they request that you leave credit card details on their "secure voicemail". Trust me, do yourself a favor and avoid this business at all costs. read more

Still waiting for them to come aerate my lawn (5/14). Called on April 10th and was told I was on their spring auto renew list (I have used them before and I do like the double pass although the price is quite high- $80). Waited..... Called and left a message April 30th to find out when the work will be done. Was told they were waiting for wetter weather. Waited..... As most people with any business savvy know, maintaining current customers is important, usually more so than acquiring new customers. I'm a repeat customer so you'd think that I wouldn't have to wait 5 weeks just for aeration service, especially after calling and asking twice about getting it done. We used BestYard last year to blow out our sprinklers. This year when we started our sprinklers up the valve outside of the house had exploded from the inside out. We called another company to come look at our sprinkler system, they explained the "guts" exploded because the system was not completely drained. $470 repair. I have emailed Chris and left VM multiple times and cannot get a return response. Dan's Sprinklers made our repair for us and they did a fantastic job. I have cancelled my service with them. Their prices are very high, there is zero concern for customer service and satisfaction. Tara on the phone is very rude, and when I said I was going to cancel my service today, she said, "I'll gladly cancel it for you!" ZERO apologies for my dissatisfaction - Such a rude woman - she's very concerned with being 'right' and trying to make the customer feel small - she called me back today just to argue after the weed control incident (explanation below) Not sure why she has the job she has...? I agree with most of the other reviewers here - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Today two guys showed up at my house to "fertilize and spray weeds" - I went in my back yard with my kids right after they got there (no fences on entire place), and the guy fertilizing came back for 2 minutes. The guy spraying weeds never set foot on my backyard yet they charged me for fert and weed control... ZERO weeds were sprayed in my backyard... not even sure they were sprayed in front...? They were at my house for 5 minutes, not exaggerating!! I was in the backyard the whole time... We have 9,000 sq. ft. of lawn they are supposed to maintain... 5 minutes is not going to cut it. Like I said above, when I called the office to discuss, Tara argued with me and showed no concern for my issues with the service. Even though I have been a loyal customer for over a year paying $63 per week just for two high school kids to mow my lawn... They won't even move our trampoline to mow under it... for $63 a week! Plus fert. & weed control that they do 3 times per year as a separate charge! Only to say they are doing weed control and not actually do it! Also high school/college kids doing weed/fert service. Over-promise/under-perform. The owner comes on strong with lots of empty promises, but can't deliver. Once they sign you up, they want you to shut up and take whatever they feel like giving you (or not giving you). A very, very poor service provider.....and even worse communicators. They accepted our job at the beginning of the 2019 season, and within 1 month contacted us via email (which I found in my Junk file days later, much to my surprise) to inform us they were, without any advanced notice, canceling their service to us. The very limited service they did perform in those few weeks were of extremely poor quality. The owner was abrupt, extremely emotional and stressed out, complaining of a lack of reliable competent labor resources, and was not willing to discuss the issues or seek solutions even at my multiple requests to just sit and talk. Instead....he just quit, leaving us to seek another provider at a very tough time of year to find alternatives. Unfortunately, as a caring and dedicated community service representative in Douglas County, I would NOT recommend this company to anyone, and urge extreme caution before moving forward with them. They are simply are unable to perform. The one positive is that the staff of this company, with the exception of the owner (who seems a nice person, but his actions clearly demonstrate otherwise....despite the "talk" and all the automated service-related emails you get bombarded with once you sign up) are very nice people. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this very poor review, but I haven't heard back from Chris since our last dialog by email and his unprofessional "non response" speaks volumes to his true lack of character. I was very frustrated when I wasn't able to even get an idea of when a list of services I selected would be happening on our yard. This is very important to me because I may want to use someone else if he can't or won't get to it for five weeks, two months or whatever? The fact is, at best you get an email the day before a service, which is fine for a fertilizer if it's done within a week or so, but not for landscape work or critical treatments which are spreading and infecting your yard over time. When I'd asked, approx. 3 weeks after signing up with Best Yard when my Necrotic Ring Spot would have treatment started, Chris finally responded by informing me that the NRS wouldn't happen until winter. No other company has suggested that this work must be done in the winter months, even Best Yard, until now. In the mean time, the condition just worsened. This is unacceptable. I was also charged an additional $90 for an hour of labor which was identified on their billing as "Tune up $90 plus parts". This charge is not valid at all as they never "Tuned up" anything, so no parts could have been installed either? Chris said the charge was for a "trip charge" or to "cover the first 30 minutes of work. Our agreement was a flat $90 an hour for work performed. He had two men on site for 2 hours for each. The simple math is 4 mhr at $90 hr = $360, that's it! There was never a "portal to portal" trip charge ever discussed nor agreed to. No response from Chris on this to give a justification of the charge and no credit back on my credit card? Unacceptable! Sprinkler parts: Our agreement was $90 hour for labor plus the cost of materials. His guys installed 18 MP Rotor sprinkler heads, which according all Internet pricing I found cost between $10 and $13 each. This totals about $180. I was charged $720! This is a 400% mark up on materials. When I confronted Chris about this, he responded, "We uplift our parts for the head and nozzle respectively". What does that statement even mean and what does that have to do with the cost of the parts? I'm sorry to have to say it, but this is indeed horrendous "price gouging" in its simplest form. If he were paying $34 or $35 a head (which he's not) and put a reasonable 10% or even 15% mark up on those parts, I would have no issues with the billing. But this isn't the case. I had asked Chris for a significant credit back on the material charges. To date, he hasn't responded nor credited my card one penny. This is glaringly unethical at every level. Chris apologized for the misunderstanding on my part, but there was no misunderstanding. We absolutely did not discuss a "trip charge" at all, the billing never even identified it as such and he's yet to justify the 400% mark up on the materials. Having charged my card already, I have no recourse at this point to force him to make cost adjustments. I've just appealed to his honorability as a decent contractor to deal with this and yet haven't heard a word back from Chris on how he intends to make this right? His website says, "Let us amaze you!".........well, he certainly has! read more

Extremely disappointed with the service we have received from Best Yard. We chose to hire them based on reading all of the great reviews online. First issue we had was trying to get ahold of anyone to signup. They have on their website that they will contact you within 24 hours of receiving your request. This is a lie. It took me two weeks and several messages to finally speak to someone, and it was only because they answered when I called back. We decided to prepay for the whole year of services and wanted to go all in (aeration, fertilizer, mowing, weed control, crabgrass prevention). In total, we spent almost $1400 with them. The first week they came to mow they didn't trim and completely skipped our back yard. I had to call to have someone come back out and they still didn't trim around our trees. The next week they skipped even though the weather was fine. I called to ask what was going on and they told me they were still trying to catch up from the snowstorm (two weeks prior). I let it slide and remained optimistic. They mowed on time the next week. The week after that, it rained on the day they were supposed to mow, so I figured they would come the next day as they had told me when we hired them. That unfortunately was not the case. I called again and was given excuses about catching up because of weather. The next week, it was sunny on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, half of Thursday and half of Friday. For some reason they skipped us AGAIN... Because of "catching up from weather". My wife has never cared too much of what our yard has looked liked, but even for her, our yard has never looked worse. I'm not doubting that they know what they are doing, they are just EXTREMELY inconsistent and lack any sort of communication skills. We never know if they will mow or not from week to week. It baffles me that every other review I see is praising them for constant communication. Unfortunately our yard has grown beyond me feeling comfortable waiting another week for them. We paid for their services so we wouldn't have to worry about yard care and could spend more time as a family. Since Best Yard doesn't seem to care about our business, I have had to mow our yard so we don't get fined by our HOA. read more

I signed up for this service in the later summer as my yard is looking really bad. I did try and fix myself to no avail. They came out the next day to go over what was needed and spent about 30 minutes. Ive had 2 services so far .(weed,fertilizer and moisture management) both times I was notified of the arrival of that service and they showed up when they said they would. Do NOT use this company unless you can wait a long to be served. I tried to get an appointment to get a large landscaping, weeding, multiple flower beds, and additional sprinkler bid. They did not return my calls for many days...and the wait time to see my 3 acres was over two weeks. This arrogant, non-responsiveness attitude is inexcusable. When we had a family emergency and I had to reschedule the appointment, Melissa and Ashley did not return my call or email for 4 days! Then, when I made a sprinkler appointment (I planted 7 large blue spruce trees and needed more drip lines) I was given an appointment for Derek to come out. I rearranged family plans to suit THEIR schedule. 36 hours later Melissa called to say my appointment was no longer available. Melissa's excuse was "I was not in the office yesterday." SERIOUSLY?! As you can see from the number of companies we have to choose from on YELP, we customers don't have to put up with this kind of "Customer-Last" treatment. I was passing this company on my way to Today's Nursery. I was glad I stopped in. I went in and the manager followed me home to give me an estimate on some yard work. She was very knowledgable and courteous on what needed to be done. She let me know they offer monthly maintenance and yearly as well, she noticed that I take care of my property and suggested once or twice a year. I agreed and she said she would call and let me know the total estimate. I got a call and we scheduled the time, she put 2 hours for the charge. They came that afternoon around 1pm and greeted me. Dan, Adam, and James came and introduced themselves and asked where to begin. They were polite and professional at what they did, always asking and keeping busy with what needed to be done. They removed dead roses, bushes, and stumps. They trimmed my bushes and ornamental grasses on the property. I was impressed on how fast and efficient they worked. I added some extra work and they even clean up and haul the debris away. I would highly recommend them for any maintenance and the price was right, only 3 hours and three truck loads of debris. I hope they give recognition for the three of them, I would recommend them anytime. read more

We've been a Bestyard/Weedman customer for years. Generally speaking, we're pleased. On occasion, their work gets spotty - not getting to us regularly, delays, etc. We've also had substantial issues with their weed control with "control" being the operative word. The rain this year has created a challenge for them but if we wanted to pull weeds, we'd not contract with them so we didn't have to. Our lawn looks good and they take care with their applications. We've tried other services and they all have issues. I think these guys are about as good as it gets. read more

Only thing is, it is a generic recording, so it doesn't accurately confirm the actual services you are receiving. A little confusing. They also treated my neighbors yard a couple of times by mistake. This is my fist season using Best Yard. I've generally been very happy with the service. The quality of the mowing and trimming has been very good. I've used other companies, and their service was far inferior to Best Yard. Best Yard is easily the best lawn service I've used to date. If I had to gripe about something, it's that when they are bring their mowers back through the front yard after leaving my back yard, they always kick river rocks into the grass and never throw them back with the other rocks. Also, I'd say I've only gotten my yard serviced on the scheduled day about 50% of the time. Early in the season when it was raining alot, I completely understand. But the past 2 weeks we've had very little rain, and they were still behind schedule. In fact, I'm scheduled on Thursdays, but didn't get a mow until Tuesday this last week. These are minor issues however, and the quality of their work overcomes these small issues for me. read more

I probably should've written this review before now. I initially called Best Yard in late April because of their good online rating, but I see that it has gone downhill pretty significantly since then. My lawn is usually very green and lush, but this past winter's heavy snow after heavy snow after heavy snow really did a number on it, and it struggled to come back this spring. My husband and I power-raked it by hand (blecchh!), but it still wasn't bouncing back as it should. I normally hire someone to do a spring aeration as a matter of course, but my usual guys no longer service my area, so I started calling around to find someone who would. After leaving voicemails with several companies, Best Yard called me back within 45 minutes of my message -- pretty impressive! I spoke with Chris, who was super friendly, and seemed very knowledgeable. I explained my issue and he said that, yes, aeration was certainly called for. He recommended their service, which would cost $90. I told him that his price is triple what I normally paid for an annual aeration, but he informed me that his company goes over the lawn twice for that price, and pulls deeper plugs. I thanked him for his time, contemplated it for a few days (while awaiting other quotes as well), and eventually decided that I would go with Best Yard. I called them back to schedule the service and was told that they would be out in 10-14 days, and that they would call me the day before they came out, so I could water and soften up the soil for better results -- pretty standard practice. Fast-forward about a month, with my husband asking me every couple of days if I had heard from the aerators. I finally called BY again in the last week of May (with my lawn suffering in the meantime) and asked them if they had an ETA on my scheduled service, since June was coming up and you should never aerate during the hot, dry summer. The woman answering the phone didn't even ask my name, but told me that they would be out soon. I asked her if they would still call me the day before so I could water and she said no, that it wasn't necessary. I kinda felt like I got the brushoff. The aerators did show up on the 31st of May, before 7am. I was still in bed at the time, but heard the machine moving around the yard. By the time I got out of bed, put some clothes on, and made my way downstairs, the crew was done and gone already, leaving only a bill behind on my front door. In the short amount of time they were there, I seriously doubt they could've covered the yard twice -- unless, of course, they have warp speed on that thing. And, looking around the lawn, I didn't see any more plugs than I normally had with my previous one-pass aeration company. So, the bottom line is this: Did my lawn get aerated? Yes, eventually.
