Ponoka is a hub of activity and it seems the Laundromat is where it all congregates. You put the clothes into multiple washers (one is usually almost always free) for a decent amount of quarters. Play with the laundromat dog, or better yet, watch him as he bolts on you from across the room, then sit and watch as people pour in. There's an arcade that keeps the kiddies entertained while mom and dad do laundry, and desperately try to find the inevitable "missing sock." Need an extra dryer sheet? Well, the owner Mary will not hesitate to provide you with your laundry needs - sometimes even free of charge. She will sit with you and chat about world events and even information about the community. You watch as all kinds of people come in. Friends from town, construction workers, those from other municipalities and even your own paper carriers. It's shocking how much you can tell about someone by their laundry. How much laundry they have with them indicates the busyness of their week or perhaps their hatred for laundry. A lot of missing socks could entail a long history with the laundromat and sock-eating dryers. The hours are reasonable - open until 9 p.m. to cater to most industries and it is always clean. Ponoka - one thing other than The Stampede you should pride yourselves in, is the Laundromat. I give you two thumbs up. And one paw for your beloved crazy dog.

They turned a man away with work coveralls because it smelled of oil - he was not happy but they have clear rules about this and given that the machines are shared it makes sense. The laundromat is tidy and machines are cleaned after each use.

Bring your own soap, some change (the machine I used only took loonies), and enter on the doors on the right. If you don't have any coins or the right ones they can exchange for some up front. This isn't the newest, most renovated place, but the machines and counters were clean and washed my blanket perfectly which is all that really matters. I've used brand-new machines at my college dorm that were gross and barely cleaned my clothes, by contrast. Definitely support local and do your laundry here!
