I had the best time at this Marriott. Looking at the photos I took of my room, I'm reminded just…read morehow much I loved my stay and will always remember it. My visit to Muncie was made all the better just by staying at this hotel. According to the internet, the official name of the hotel is the Courtyard by Marriott Muncie at Horizon Convention Center. Whatta mouthful! I'll just call it the Marriott. I never liked the term "conveniently located," because it raises the question: convenient to whom? It's such a nebulous, throwaway phrase. But literally, this Marriott is conveniently located in downtown Muncie, in the middle of the city and within steps of many restaurants and attractions. There's even a terrific restaurant attached to the hotel that's located downstairs (1925 Pubhouse). The hotel is next door to the Muncie Children's Museum, within sight of the Muncie Visitors Bureau, and across the street from a grassy area where many outdoor concerts happen during the summer. If you want to not use your car very much when you visit Muncie, but you want to do a lot and visit a lot of places, this is a good hotel at which to stay. One of the cool things about this Marriott is that it is a teaching hotel, and provides job training and employment for people with disabilities. I love that. The dude who checked me out of my room, and the homie who kindly sold me a cup of coffee and avocado toast, both had disabilities. My lovely interactions with them were an integral part of me loving my stay. As for my room: It had a comfy king-sized bed with lots of pillows, a TV that you can connect to Amazon Prime and other streamers to watch your favorite movies about hundreds of beavers, a mini fridge to store water bottles and chill a bottle of white wine, and a view that overlooks the city. It is a nice, clean, functional, comfortable, restful and special hotel.

It has been over eight years since my original review of Muncie, Indiana's Courtyard by Marriott at…read moreHorizon Convention Center Since that time, I've stayed in the hotel any time I return to Muncie and it has become a regular part of my travel routine within Indiana. The hotel is a Marriott franchisee owned by Arc of Indiana, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The hotel is a "teaching" hospital and plays host to the Erskine-Green Training Institute - Indiana's first statewide hospitality training center for individuals with disabilities. The goal is to train folks with disabilities for a competitive wage jobs. The hotel itself is a for profit project that provides an immersive training ground for those interested in hospitality industry jobs. The hotel is contractually obligated to have at least 20% of its employees be persons with disabilities. While Scott Wise's Thr3e Wisemen Brewery was part of the hotel in the beginning, it has been replaced by a similarly themed 1925 Pubhouse that also serves as a training restaurant for Erskine-Green. Opened in December 2015, this Courtyard is a six-floor hotel that is attached to Thr3e Wisemen, the Muncie Children's Museum and the Horizon Convention Center. Originally targeted for the old Roberts Hotel, which was snatched up and turned into condos before the project was greenlighted, the hotel ended up being built on land donated by the city of Muncie. During training, Erskine-Green Training Institute students stay at the hotel, unless they are relatively local and commute, while in their 10-13 week training programs. This also means, of course, that this Courtyard is one of the most accessible hotels you can imagine. Truly. It offers a variety of accessibility options in the majority of its rooms including wheelchair accessibility, roll-in showers, and adaptive equipment for both visual and hearing impairments. Some of the rooms even have automated doors (though, ironically, mine wasn't working during my most recent stay). The hotel was recently renovated as it nears its 10th anniversary. It offers spacious rooms, contemporary/clean decor, a fair pricing point, an in-house bistro that offers breakfast and dinner, an around-the-clock Starbucks option (not full menu), a nice and wheelchair friendly pool, a fitness center, and even a check-in center that has been made accessible. You should know, as it's a tad confusing, that the parking in front of the hotel actually belongs to the new condos. Don't park there. They seem a tad moody. Instead, there's a parking garage behind the hotel where guests park for free (It's $1 an hour if you're just visiting). There's no doubt my affection for Erskine-Green somewhat skews my rating, and I'll acknowledge that while I seldom have any issues on this visit the automatic door didn't work (and it's quite heavy without the automatic feature) and a packed house due to a convention clearly had the staff a bit overwhelmed. Minor quibbles (though having stayed from Friday evening to Sunday, I was a bit bothered that no one bothered to address the automatic door). On the plus side, a previous tip I'd made to lower the bed had actually been implemented. Bravo. As this is centrally located in downtown, the hotel attracts a variety of traveling guests, businesses, and others. On one visit, I even met the duo from Air Supply in town for a concert (If you don't know Air Supply, move on - I'm old. Get over it). The meeting rooms were nicely equipped, there were charging stations all over the place and even more since the recent renovation added charging stations at tables. Profits from this hotel go to benefit the Erskine-Green Training Institute and other ARC projects. So, you have a terrific room at a fair price with great service and you're supporting a great organization working to put folks with disabilities in the workforce. It really doesn't get much better than that.

A parent booked rooms at the student center hotel and I had no idea this existed. It was spring break so the area was extremely bare. We were the only 3 rooms booked in the 24 room hotel so it was nice and quiet. Why the 3 stars? Based on the pictures, it looks like they've done a few updates. The inside of the room looked fine. We ended up in a handicapped accessible room and was told it was bigger. I'll be honest, aside from the bathroom, I can't imagine the room area being any smaller. The bed was so uncomfortable! The tv is super old school and the size you'd typically see in your great grandparents sitting room. There is no pool or fitness center so keep that in mind when looking for amenities. There's a vending machine, but since it was spring break, nothing else was open. Staff were very friendly and subsequently very timely sending a hotel receipt since we didn't do registration desk checkout. The rate is extremely reasonable so this would be a great option for a group that wanted to be all together. Would I come back? Yes, I would.

The rooms are very nice and everything I expected based on other reviews and pictures. The hotel is located in the Student Union, which had a late night activity going on - the only reason for a 4-star and not a 5-star is because in the middle of the night we were woke up by a fire alarm and had a evacuate the building. This was not fun with 2 kids, and I wonder if it was a prank - if that was the case, not cool. But 3 of us stayed in the queen room and rented a roll-away bed for only an additional $10/night. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. Coffee was available in the room and the hotel quarters of the building were quiet. The hotel consists of a hall of around 20 rooms that is upstairs in the Student Union. A parking tag was given to me when I checked in and included with the room so that I could park in the lot connected to the Union.

The TV kept going off and coming back on. It was very annoying. As I was changing my clothes for dinner. Standing there with my underwear on we hear somebody using their key on our door and he walked into our room. The man apologized and backed out of our room. When we went down to leave for dinner, the manager was gone and a young man was at the front desk. We told him what happened and he apologized. We said that it was not his fault. He said that we were actually supposed to get a different room. We told him that we wanted to get comped for our room. He said that he would check with the manager and the manager would let us know in the morning when we check out. So when we were checking out the manager apologized and said that I would see a credit on my card in a couple of weeks. I will be calling the management at Marriott and reporting this hotel.

But I could have dealt with that if he wasn't rude. Things happen that I was not informed of. Including the fact that my grandchildren who are certified to swim and great swimmers were not allowed down there alone so I could pack the car to leave. They are 13 and 14 and been swimming since they were little babies. And if I had been informed up front when I told him I was going to bring cash hold my card on the room till I got there. I would have just let him use the card but no I had to cough up another hundred dollar bill so he'd have it for incidentals. I guess when he left when I went to get my hundred dollars back out the towels. He he seems satisfied when he returned that I hadn't stolen any. Or anything else. If you said anything I would have told him my towels were at home were a lot better than his towels there. I don't ever plan on going back there again. I only went because they had a pool. And hot breakfast. When it's served at 8:00 and it's taken up at 9:00 there ought to be enough to go around but there wasn't some mornings. I'd have gave him a zero but that wasn't an option.

We swam for almost 2 hours, we didn't leave a mess. I decided i was going to stay another night, so i went to front desk before we went to swim, i informed the desk clerk that we was going to the pool(he seen the kids with me) he was like good good have fun. Then he tells me that i have to come to front desk in am around breakfast time to check out then check back in. That didn't make sense to me at the time but i said OK. So that's what i did, when i came down next am the desk clerk told me that i wasn't allowed to take my company to the pool area cause if hotel was busy and the guest in the rooms wanted to swim there wouldn't be enough space since i took my grandkids in there. For 1 it was early afternoon threw the week, there was hardly anyone there at this time. 2nd of the hotel was that busy i wouldn't have been staying there. 3 we where only in the pool area for 1hr 40 minutes to 2 hours. So next day starting about 4:30 pm a guest had parked the work truck right in front of the window beside the bed. (No big deal usually) every 20 to 30 minutes this trucks alarm goes off. It did that until about 11pm started back up about 4:30 am. To top that off, some young lady's that were staying there was out in the parking lot about 1am blaring music being loud and dancing and twerking against the car and each other until about 3am. Not much sleep with that all night oh did i mention that the toilet ran constantly all day all night until i finally shut the water off to it. My tv didn't work properly it keep freezing up. I ask the front desk clerk if anyone else was having issues with their tv's he says no. And i informed him of the toilet issue. He goes to check on it. Not sure what he did except turned the water on. So listening to a running toilet was the music for the day and evening. Then i notice that 750.00 was withdrawn out of my account. The room was 180/ tax included per night except for the extra night i added once i was there. They had me check out then check back in charged me 350/ pl tax 1 night. I won't stay here again. I think that was a dirty thing for them to have me check out then check right back in so they can charge me more for the room then what I had originally reserved the room for. 170.00 more but yet tv didn't work properly the toilet didn't work properly and I wasn't allowed to have my guest in the pool area. For 350a night I should be allowed to take a couple guest to the pool area. No where on the receipt did it mention the 100 deposit i had to pay. So I probably paid almost 900 for a3 night stay. Won't do that again.
