This hotel/motel is just cool! It was built in 1951. I didn't expect it when I decided to stay here, we just needed a room in Evanston that was dog friendly. When you drive around, from checking in, to find your room, you go back in time! It was a very memorable flashback from when I was a kid. The room was very large, the bathroom is very small, and there was a phone in the bathroom as well as the one expected by the bed; not sure why, but it was a little funny. Compared to a newly built hotel in the same price range, this was more comfortable. The restaurant is obviously renowned with the local community! The restaurant has that smell of a decades old, high-end restaurant; if you're not familiar with that smell, it is a very pleasant smell of wonderful cooking that has saturated the restaurant over decades. The bed itself was not comfortable. My back and my wife's back are both laying the price for it this morning. Keeping the room a good temperature was a challenge so it was a lot of freeing and sweating as you get up in the middle of the night to adjust it. There was two containers of food in the fridge from a prior occupant. Speaking of the fridge it froze our pizza overnight. Good thing there was a mini microwave in the room that could hold a single slice of pizza. Also, there was leg hairs in the tub this morning when we went to take a shower. Overall, I would give this place a pass. In good weather where you don't need an air conditioner or a heater to stay comfortable overnight and the room was clean I bet it would be ok. The tv doesn't allow you to watch Netflix on it unless you cast to it. There's only YouTube and other Google properties installed on it. read more

We have definitely seen worse places to stay in Evanston. (One right across the street) A tad pricey but the room is clean, bed feels good. The floors and walls are kind of creaky and the bathroom is small but since it is so clean, I'd recommend it to anyone. Oh, and you get a free breakfast legal tender. I might add that the entire complex is odd, buildings are spread out pretty far. This place is old but nice and it smells good. read more

Recommend for traveling with pets. All rooms are on ground floor, clearly marked, grassy area for pets and pet bags and trash can. Room has laminate floors which I love in a motel. Clean, plenty of towels, quiet at night and well lit outside. Bonus of free breakfast! They have a full service restaurant on site so the free breakfast is better than most. All food hot and fresh and the fruit option was delicious strawberries and blueberries. We enjoyed our dinner there after a friendly and easy check in. read more

This review is for the BW: My only real concern was the fact that the room carpeting went right up the bathroom sink. Any splatter will end up on the rug. How is that kept clean? Everything you needed was there, but it definitely an older space that had been remodeled. The pillows were soft as a feather, but it went flat fast, and this is the first time in days, I woke up with a neck pain. I was using two pillows, to elevate my head, and went right back to sleep. The temperature was comfortable. I didn't like the fact, that we have to eat inside the restaurant (next door) instead of bringing foods in our room. read more

Great place to stay when in the Evanston area! Place was built in the 1960's, I'm guessing, and has the old throw back feel of when you'd park outside your room, which is nice as then your normal hauling stuff up three stories. The room was very clean and beds comfy as well. Amenities were the usual. Breakfast was basically the typical pre-prepared food ( powdered eggs, sausage, etc). This would be one area I'd much rather switch up and even pay for a breakfast that was freshly prepared. This is a place I'd easily recommend and plan on staying at again in my travels. read more

A huge shout out for Heather Rae - Manager - who kindly attended to our problematic situation with patience and understanding. We made our reservations through Hotel.com, our default booking system that we have been using for at least 5 years, specially on our long trips (+30-days away from home). Well, Hotels.com system made a mistake: we booked at 5:30 am on 6/23 for one night arriving on 6/23. The system booked us for 6/22. When we arrived Heather looked for our confirmation which was not there for 6/22 or 6/23. We paid for the room when we booked at 5:30 am and we made sure to give Heather the Hotel.com email confirmation we received. She took care of everything, haves a room, and we were able to rest. We give Heather Rae 5 starts for her, problem solving skills, professionalism and care for clients. The room was a small suit, could use updating, and the A/C was barely working. We were a warm and a bit uncomfortable and luckily it cooled off after it rain. I am thankful we had a bed and roof over our heads to sleep. read more

Had to make an unplanned drive from Boise to Denver Made it to Evanston the first night. Road weary, stressed out and just whipped, we pulled in with our 65# rescue Pitbull. Carole was working the front desk and she was amazing!! Every question I had, she had the answer order food from the restaurant to take back to the room and it was excellent. The next morning, I returned to the front desk with more questions about hotels on Denver. I didn't catch the name of the young lady but she gave me options close to the VA Hospital in Denver. Best Western Dunmar Inn was definitely an experience... not one I would like to experience again if I had a choice. Bottom line, it's an only motel and they keep the rooms clean, but there's room for improvement... Pros: -The rooms were clean, just very outdated -The beds were adequate for a nights rest (my son said the hotel wasn't as comfy as previous hotel) -Hot breakfast was included at their restaurant attached to the mainly lobby. Most of it was decently buffet set up and they serve you beverages. Cons: -AC didn't work well. There were two units and both sucked. The one next to the beds was newer, but didn't work. The one in the restroom area was LOUD and pre 80's wall unit. It did not make the room cool on the other end of the room. -Housekeeping knocked LOUDLY on the door at exactly 8am. Not cool when you have a sleeping toddler and got in late the night before. -Light leak from door and curtains... the door had the biggest opening on the bottom, thankfully no insects visited us the next day -Bait and switch of coffee and tea in the room vs the lobby. On our room, it was no name tea and a weird coffee machine. In the lobby, there's a Keurig & premium teas bags. While I wouldn't want to stay here again if I was visiting Evanston, Wyoming, the accommodations were not the worst ever. I would probably do more research on what else is in the area. read more

Had a 12 day trip planned IN September. 8 different hotels along route. My husband was in a horrific motorcycle crash night before we were set to leave. This is the only hotel that would not refund me or even asked how my husband is. Will never stay or support any Best Western. Our overall stay was relaxing. Breakfast was included. The bedding they use is nice. For 1 or 2 nights it's decent. Our room was clean and orderly which I appreciate. However there was a slight urine smell and I don't know if it's the mattress or the carpet but that was a bit of a turn off. The bathroom heater fan knob was broken so we weren't able to use it. Everyone we encountered on this trip has been super friendly though. I really like the pace in Wyoming it's relaxing and helps one to unwind. read more

My family and I stayed here due to the good reviews, and the image they portray in their pictures. We reserved our room an hour away, once we arrived we were shocked at the surrounding property. The motel behind (side by side) the best western was GHETTO. And I do not say that lightly, the motel behind had a busted door open with busted windows. I did not feel safe as someone who is not from here and with very small children. AND no refunds so we were stuck here. read more

Wow! I should have checked Yelp first. We booked ourselves at this (need I say it) MOTEL! Thinking it was a hotel like most Best Westerns. Haven't stayed at a MOTEL before and it is right out of the 50s. No AC except some window thing stuck in the back wall. Running toilet. Fairly clean, but the pictures on the Best Western site are completely misleading. This is NOT up to Best Western standards at all. When they offered the free breakfast in the restaurant attached it was a no go for us. Glad we only have to endure one night here. It's reminiscent of the Bate's Motel in Psycho. Never again! And to actually find the room, you have to leave breadcrumbs to find your way back to the lobby. read more

So. Two stars. Each of those two stars represents two good people working at the hotel. Both the front desk person who was there on arrival and a gentleman working breakfast that was bustin hump and giving great service with a smile to everyone. (All without being tipped by nearly everyone in the restaurant...what is wrong with people?) Other than that. Nothing like going to bed late only to be awakened at 6 am with what sounded to be colliding cars. Nope. No cars. Just a damn snowplow plowing snow...oops did I say snow? I meant ICE. There wasn't any snow on top of the ice to be plowing so why was that necessary? The truck wasn't even laying down any salt but sure knew how to be as LOUD as possible 10 feet from my door. I won't' mention the lack of decent black-out curtains or other annoying features but then again I probably can't remember them all since I got so little sleep. Haven't stayed anywhere else in Evanston so I can't speak to other properties but do yourself a favor and take a chance somewhere else. If you do decide to stay here please tip the service staff at the "Free" breakfast. When you don't you just seem like an uneducated dolt. read more

I stayed here back in 2010 and absolutely loved it. I've always wanted to go back and finally got a chance on a current trip across the country. Now, with all that has happened since I 2010 I expected updates and was pleasantly surprised that updates have been very well done while preserving the history and charm of this hotel. I didn't know the history of it the first time I stayed, just thought it was an awesome place. After speaking to a couple staff members on this stay, I now know the history behind it and everything makes sense. The staff are so friendly and took time to have a lengthy conversation with my wife and I. We're looking forward to another stay in the near future and and learning more about the history and enjoying the awesome hospitality! read more

This is a great hotel. I was a little worried about staying in hotels during this COVID-19 time because hotels are notoriously dirty. But I found our room to be very clean and comfortable. We really appreciated how dog friendly the hotel was and the small grass area was perfect for our pup. Why I didn't give this place 5 stars was because it did take forever for the hot water to kick on. The mini fridge didn't seem the cleanest. And as we were packing to leave I think a house keeper tried to get into the room to clean but we were still within the designated hours of our one night stay. I think it was an accident. The BW Dunmar Inn is exactly halfway between our home and family destination. We always stay here. It's a huge property with a dozen or so single story units, probably built in the 60'-70's. Park in front of your door - old style. This was somebody's big dream at some point and the rooms are laid out nicely. Bathrooms are a little long in the tooth, but it's still a decent room. There is a restaurant/bar on-site near the front desk. Take a look at the map where your room is when you check-in. You could have a long walk to the restaurant. We've had dinner both in the restaurant and the bar, and the service and food was good. Rooms also include a pretty nice buffet breakfast of hot food, which was much better than most other hotel breakfast buffets. An extra star just for that. I'm sure at one time this a real gem. It still has the feel of a resort, but now the clientele includes many in the construction business. But hey, that just makes for livelier conversation at the bar! For what you're paying for the room, the breakfast, and just experience, it's worth a try. read more

Drove from CA to Wyoming and stayed here for the night, wonderful greeting from the manager, Heather, and she made us feel very welcome. Everything about our room was excellent, more than enough towels and clean (without a strange chemical smell that you get at some places). Fantastic breakfast of eggs, sausage, hash browns, chicken fried steak and many fresh fruits. We liked this place so much that on our way back to CA we stayed again. Called Heather, the same manager that took care of us the first time, and she kept the front door unlocked until we arrived at midnight. Wonderful room and great breakfast again. Love being able to park in front of my door - makes bringing your luggage and a three year old in late at night. I would almost take a road trip just to stay here again! Check in was easy, the room was clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable. The front desk staff was very friendly. But let's talk about the breakfast!!! They said there's complimentary breakfast made in the restaurant. I was thinking typical continental breakfast, but this was FRESH and so good. There was fresh fruit, omelettes, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, really good sausage links and patties. Potatoes, bagels, yogurt. Like this was a full on feast, and so tasty. Parts of the hotel offering get different ratings to get 3 stars. Hotel room was hot. It had two units. An A/C and a heater. Neither had a thermostat with temperatures on it. Even when the heater was turned to off it way over heated the room. You should be able to easily control the room temperature. This is one star for keeping us from comfortably sleeping. This is an older facility and some of that is obvious but the bath had been updated and looked fairly nice. However, the toilet was loud and took a long time to refill. We had our dog and hotels can only have so many pet friendly rooms. It was nice to be able to stay with our pet. It was one of the lower charges for the pet. This gets a four star rating. We ate dinner and then breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Both meals deserve five stars. From the staff to the absolutely great hamburger and salad bar. Then the breakfast buffet with both scrambled eggs and cheesy eggs! Fresh coffee and again great service. All staff we met were helpful and friendly. read more

NOPE. First of all, there is a huge disconnect between the photos of the property and the reality. This is a MOTEL, not a hotel. Multiple buildings spread out all over the place, at least 50-60 years old, and hasn't been updated at all other than a newer, uncomfortable couch in the room. Everything is old and needs updating BADLY. We should have known with all of the homemade signs all over the lobby about the various, specific things that will result in fines. The room smelled like my now deceased grandmother's house, which is not a compliment - smells of old cigarette smoke and general decay. No working AC during a heat wave. The kicker was pulling back the sheets to find hair in the bed - NOPE, NO WAY, ABSOLUTELY NOT!! We ended up getting the last room at the Holiday Inn Express down the road, which seems like the Four Seasons compared to the Dunmar Inn. The only good thing about this place was the very lively and loud bar on site. Soooooo disappointing. read more

Horrible customer service by the front desk person name Briana. I paid for my father's stay prior to his arrival. She went ahead and charged his credit card and would listen to a word he said. I called to resolve the issue and she again wouldn't even let me get one word out and hung up on me. I called back 3 times and she did the same thing. Left a message with the manager so hopefully they will call back and make this right. I've never had such horrible customer service. If these are the people they allow to represent Best Western then what does that say about them... read more

Run away! It's a catfish!! This place is nothing like what it looks like online. It's a seedy dumpy motel, that was built in like the 30s and has not been updated in any real way. The heating is horrible, turn of the century boiler room stuff that is so loud you jold awak when it comes on and it smells like burnt hair. The door handles have ne er been updated and popped hot for lead, yes I bring a test kit when I travel. The place feels creepy like a horror movie motel. I'm quite certain the water pipes have never been updated either.. this place isn't worth $20. If we weren't caught in a literal white out blizzard I'd have just left as soon as I saw what this dump really was. But the roads weren't safe to drive on to get to a different place and it was sub zero so sleeping in our vehicle was out of the question... this place is a massive regret. Can't believe me and my kids had to stay here... barf. read more

Not sure where to start. This is more of a motel. You park in front of your room. Cold air pouring in front door. Side table lamp shocked me-electricity messed up. Very old furnishings and noise from outside. Dark carpet that felt wet. Light coming in from drapes that won't close all the way. Had to use hair clips to hold them shut. Honestly I feel like I'm in a slasher film. Super creepy. read more

Ok so this is not exactly a 5 star hotel, however, let me explain the 5 star rating. First and foremost.... service! The service at the front desk and in the Legal Tender steak house was by far some of the best service I have had in a long time. The people were absolutely the most friendly you could ask for. Special shout out to Naomi who works at the legal tender. She always greets you with with a special hello and all girls are met with "my lady". She was on top of everything and ensured we even had coffee to go. Here is how good she was.... our breakfast was free but we had no cash. I made her charge me for a coffee so i could tip her what she deserved. The rooms.. the rooms are actually pretty nice. They were very clean and up to date. It was Friday night so we had high school foot ball behind us, however, with that you get a fireworks show. Affordability--. With AAA membership and Best Western membership it was $99 for the night. Very comparable to other hotels. Plus everything is super close. Again good shout out to Naomi my son and I can not give her enough props. You will not regret your stay here. Oh and you will not regret the food at the Legal Tender. It really was excellent food. read more

I liked this Inn. We stayed one night on our trip and it was a pleasant room, clean, & fresh smelling. There was plenty of room for our U-Haul trailer attached to our large SUV, so no worries about creating a problem for other guests as they parked. The hotel staff was very accomodating and helpful as the place is huge and there are many trails to follow. It's only a short walk to dinner at the Legal Tender restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. We enjoyed two good meals before we resumed our travels. The Inn is tucked into the property so no worries about driveway traffic. I would stay here again. read more

Nice room, clean, great price. Just passing through and needed a place to sleep and shower - and this is more than adequate. It is older but has some updates like carpet and bedding. It's a motel and we noticed they tend to put everyone who has a corporate rate together so we got stuck right next to a railroad employee driving a monster company diesel pick up which he parked DIRECTLY in front of our room. read more

We have made this our go to overnight stop for over 15 years, always had a clean room with good amenities. This visit.....not so goodThe room was marked as a non smoking room but my nose did not agree. The smell of smoke was overwhelming, so unpleasant, could not sleep. Of all the rooms we've stayed in, I can't believe that we may have gotten the smelliest, dirtiest room on the property. I am very disappointed with this stay and even paid a lot more this time than in the past. They were gnats flying around in the room at night and the bathroom tile floor was very dirty. So dirty that we walked around the room with our shoes on! We will come back but will be more diligent upon check in to make sure that we get a clean, non smoking room with upgrades!! read more
