for 54 dollars a night with tax this place is NOT as bad as others make out. We booked on short notice via smart phone Priceline App and ten minutes later, checked in late. The front desk folks were super nice and the WiFi was FREE.
The motel is your typical Motel 6 ala 1960's setup but in comparison to the airport Motel 6 in Salt Lake City, this place is like staying at the Mark Hopkins in SF.
Granted, its near a main drag that leads to I-80 but everythingh else in that area is as well and will cost you 40-50 dollars more.
Plus, you just don't get that 'yaba dabba do!' quality from those 'newer=fangled' Holiday Inn Express types of places. So what, no flat screen TV and No vibrating quarter beds (anymore) but the original feel of the place is in tact and the price to value to nostatgia ratios exremely high.
I didn't particularly like the fact that my sheets smelled like they were too bleached..I hate that bleachy sheet smell...but the Sands Casino in Reno was just as bad and offered NO continental breakfast. The light above the door that faced the parking lot was not covered and the outer lights too bright, shining into the room all night, but hey, I didn't need to turn anything on to find the bathroom, at least. The TV worked, the phone operational and in good form, it even had the mandatory Holy Bible (while the people that ran the motel were from India and probably NOT of the Christian faith-leaving the Bibles in the room showed a great respect for American Tradition and is very commendable).
Lastly, the carpets still had the faint emanations of cigarette smoke, from back in the days when it was a smoking room (or motel) or the fact that someone just chose to smoke in the room (even though upon check in it was IMPRESSED UPON US THIS IS A NON SMOKING ROOM), Being an ex smoker, it bugged me alot, but I haven't any idea how the motel owners could control this and if guests do nothing to inform them upon check out, they won't know that it needs to be cleaned with Carpet Fresh. I know I didn't say anything when I left, so who am I to complain now, but nonetheless, the smell was annoying.
Overall, if you haven't scruples about parking lot noise, or noises coming from the hall that faces the inner part of the motel (It wasn't incessant, but I did hear children coughing in the hall, or other room and cars starting up, out in the P-lot, while I was watching TV) and wear ear plugs when you sleep (a habit of mine from my Iraq deployment days) you won't have any issue with this place. I slept soundly and NEVER felt my safety was in jeapordy, in any way shape or form. For heavens sake, this is Evanston Wyoming! You couldn't get more rural (least populated state in the entire union) and more friendly (girl at the fireworks store on the hill wouldn't stop telling us about her family life).
I loved the nostalgic effect of this place, and felt the free Continental breakfast and free wifi added a bonus feature that a Motel 6 of the same price just couldn't touch. No, you won't get a free flat screen TV in the lobby, or a heated indoor pool like the he Holiday Inn Express is just across the street, but you also will save about a 110 dollars on a two nighst stay and THAT is a LOT of illegal (in every other state BUT Wyoming) fireworks, my friends!.
Otherwise, if you just want a decent sleep, a TV that works and a great, free breakfast, on short notice, you can't beat this place. I have stayed in dumps in California, where I live, that cost twice as much per night. read more
