In what was otherwise a disastrous kitchen renovation project, my experience with Design Tile was…read moresuperb. I'm stingy in doling out 5 star reviews, but Design Tile earned mine every step of the way. I visited no fewer than EIGHT different tile shops in the DC area trying to find the "right" tile for my kitchen backsplash. The store is off the beaten path, and the showroom can feel a bit overwhelming...but that's actually a good thing because it means more options. Design Tile--and specifically Susan--did a few things that were great. First, they offered great advice with respect to my color palette and needs. Many tile shops used the hard sales approach and seemed intent on trying to sell me something, but Design Tile found me multiple options that really worked. Of my four tile finalists, three of them came from DT! Susan's trained eye clearly made the difference and meant that unlike other places, my time wasn't being wasted with bad options. Also, they were more than happy to let me take samples boards home. Some places are prickly about this, but DT wasn't. And after placing my order, they were responsive both via email and phone with both order status and advice. Susan even was helpful when I called her afterward for some advice on grout line sizing. There are a couple things to know so you aren't surprised by anything: * You'll pay a shipping fee, and since tile is heavy, that isn't cheap. You can save a little on this by a) offering to pick tile up at the store rather than having it shipped directly, and b) waiting (if you can) for them to bundle your order with another from the same manufacturer. * It's cash and check only. They have a system where you can do an electronic transfer from your savings or checking account too. Design Tile is a boutique tile shop, so if you're looking for super cheap stuff ASAP, it might not be the place for you. However, if you want a great experience and to end up with tile that you're love, make them your first stop.

Ignored Certified Letter, Left Home Damaged & Incomplete…read more If you are considering Flooring America in Fairfax, BEWARE. We paid them over $40,000 for a major installation and were left with unfinished job, poor workmanship, and complete stonewalling from management. After our sales point of contact Yamah stopped responding to calls and texts, we visited and called the store repeatedly. This is when we discovered after months of Yamah making excuses, he retired without passing on our file. Every employee promised management would reach out. No one ever did. Desperate for a resolution, we sent a Certified Letter via USPS directly to store management outlining critical issues: two uninstalled vanities, uninstalled closet doors in two rooms, unstable kitchen cabinets, missing toe kicks, work quality issues, and dangerous trim undercuts. They ignored the certified letter entirely. No call, no email, no effort to fix their mistakes. They show total disregard for their customers and their own contractual obligations. Save yourself the stress and hire a contractor who stands behind their work.

I walked into their Alexandria location mid June 2020 to discuss a kitchen remodel. I handed the…read moredesigner some papers that provided details of what I wanted. I requested that the entire kitchen design for the above cabinets remain the same measurements as I currently had. However, I wanted a lazy Susan in the corner unit below, and that meant changing the measurements of some of the bottom cabinets to fit it. I knew what cabinets I wanted. I knew what color theme I wanted. I picked out the color of the cabinets quickly. However, the whole design process from start to finish took 10 weeks. The designer told me he was very busy. I just needed to select the tiles for the floor and the backsplash. Once I left the designer a message that if I didn't meet him that weekend to nail down the tile selection, then I needed to cancel the entire job, he became available to meet with me to look at tiles together. I wanted the work to be done in November so it would be finished for the holidays. The crew was terrific. They were skilled. They were polite. They were very patient with me. I was working from home daily. So, I was always available to ask questions and oversee their work. A few issues came up that I believe was the fault of lack of detail during the design process. The top corner cabinet didn't come with shelves as I requested, but with a rotating round shelving unit. The cabinet above the sink was 3" shorter than my directions in writing that I handed the designer. So, these items had to be re-ordered and didn't come in until early January. Each time I tried to call and email the designer to ask him about these mistakes, he didn't respond. I worked with Luisa, the project manager. While she was never on site during the renovation, she always took my calls or called me back quickly (the same as emails). Frankly, I think Luisa should have been the designer for me and worked with me throughout the entire process. I don't think it was effective to have one "designer" come to my house twice and be available to meet me in the store to later hand it all over to the project manager. I probably feel this way because I didn't really need real design help. I knew what design I wanted from the start. I just needed advice to help me pick out the tiles.

I wanted something more pet-friendly for upstairs. I visited 6 other places, including the two biggies (HD and L's) and every estimate was very high. I was exhausted from my all-day search, was going to give up and get dinner, when I noticed American Decorating Center. Tired and frustrated but hey what's one more store. Had I known what was to happen I would have ONLY gone to ADC! From the second I walked inside and met April and Terry, I instantly felt like they understood my frustrating and were both willing to try to make something work. There was absolutely NO sales pressure, in fact when I mentioned I was on a budget--w/o mentioning how much--April immediately said ok there are several other ways we can go that will look just as nice w/o spending a fortune. And when I mentioned my rescue dogs April immediately had the idea to put down vinyl flooring upstairs only and carpet on the stairs. I thought hmmmm....but she was spot on right! AND she recognized--after NONE of the other larger businesses did--that with the special railing I had installed at the top there was no way I could use the other types of flooring I had been looking at--and been given insane estimates for--would work (couldn't drill through the flooring types I had chosen). Jason came out to do the estimate and came in UNDER budget on flooring. And it looks fantastic! I've shown the work to friends/coworkers and already recommended ADC. And Jason was SO wonderful and thorough that I had him estimate my kitchen and bath as well. ADC will be the ONLY company to the work, I won't even look elsewhere. They are thorough, have a great selection of options for whatever your needs, they're professional, and they followed up at every step along the way (thank you Terry!) Most of all I feel like they are truly trustworthy and honest; something lacking in most businesses. I am a customer for life, and anyone else I can recommend them to I will.
