Easily the worst dental insurance we've ever had. They do not cover basic fillings for kids unless the cavity is on the front surface of a front tooth, which is absurd for a 'pediatric' benefit. We found this out only after treatment, when they denied coverage on totally routine fillings. I had the dental plan. The insurance was fine. But I canceled and changed my dental provicer and they continued to take out my premuim from my bank for 3 months. I called and they said that yes they just keep taking out until the person calls in and cancels. I never received a notice that they were continuing payment. I never received a notice that I needed to cancel the automatic deduction. I called to get my money back and yes it takes at least two pay cycles before they issue a refund. Stay far away if you're looking for a carrier for small group insurance. We have a small group policy with Best Life. Their billing process works unlike any other carrier I've worked with. When trying to understand it, customer support is unhelpful and gives incorrect information. Their website for account management is antiquated. They will debit your bank account for amounts that are not reflected on invoices and then leave you hanging when you try to figure out why. read more

Had this insurance for 6 months, cancelled in December 2020. They still debited my bank account in January for the monthly premiums. I called to request a refund and was told my account had been closed and to expect a refund check within 60 days. Two months later I received bills in the mail for February and March 2021, and still no refund. Just called and the CS rep said the refund request was put through 30 days after I called in January to request it and that it was still processing. We never used this insurance and now I can't even get a simple refund. The CS rep today said he would put in a request to expedite it since it's already been 60 days. I guess we'll see if it shows up or if they will continue to sit on it. There is absolutely NO reason it should take this long to process a refund. If their system can send me bills it surely can send me a check for $45. UPDATE 3-18-21: Still trying to get my refund. They sent me a check for a partial refund on my account. Still haven't received anything for my husband's account. Now they're trying to tell me they billed me for the first 6 days of 2021 because I didn't call them directly to cancel - I cancelled the same way I signed up, through the Healthcare marketplace. The 6th CS rep I spoke to today is now telling me they don't cancel automatic billing until you call them directly. None of the previous 5 CS reps mentioned that. And their billing paperwork that encourages you to sign up for automatic electronic payments says nothing about having to contact them directly to stop payments after you cancel the policy. This is the WORST insurance company I have ever dealt with. I am furious with this company and believe BEST Life is a scam. DO NOT purchase insurance from them. I signed up in December and started automatic payments for 2018. The website would not verify my information so I was unable to set up an online account. I have no way of accessing my insurance information or confirming my payments. I tried calling multiple times and the automated response states lines are busy and you should try your call again later, then hangs up on you. So I emailed them. FOUR TIMES. They never responded despite automatic replies saying you will receive a response in 1-3 business days. Well, it's been 2 months... I have not received my insurance cards, however, I have received bills showing late payments due as though my reoccurring payment does not apply to my account. Today, I decided enough was enough and terminated my policy through the marketplace. I have sent a LETTER to the company saying do not charge me further with hopes my automatic monthly payment will be stopped. Since I have no way of logging into an online account, and the phone line automatically hangs up when you call, I have no control over this. I purchased my Dental Insurance through Best Life for 2017. While I was traveling for a month, there was an issue with my automatic payment as I had lost my credit card and failed to update it in the system, causing my coverage to be discontinued. Knowing that I evenutally was in need of a root canal and Crown, I called Best Life to see if I could have it re-instated, explaining that I was going to need this procedure in the very near future. The agent was understanding and quickly took my new credit card info, and understandably, charging me for the one month of missed payments and the following month. However, since i was still in my first year, I later found out that the entire claim was declined. While I did need this procedure, I easily could have waited two months to have it done till my year anniversary IF the agent that took my payment AND made comments that they were glad they could help. After getting the declination letter, I filed an appeal that was ALSO denied... Needless to say, I AM NO LONGER (AND NEVER WILL BE) a customer of BEST LIFE... read more

Purchased dental insurance for 2018. Paid premium a months and a half ago (early). Received no paperwork other than next month invoice. Create online account says you can get an id card online but fails to mention that the "Member No" it wants is different from the "Account No" it gives you on the invoice. Also, fails to mention the date format is "mm/dd/yy". Error message "can't find account" is far from useful. Waited on the phone for 45 minutes before I could speak to a human. read more

Was not aware that at the end of the year the policy would automatically renew. I was instructed that I would be refunded the money minus the 7 days that i had it available in January. I was initially instructed I would get my refund by March 27th. No refund was received. They then instructed me that they put a RUSH order and in 7-10 days I would receive it. I couldn't get through to them on the phone and was not about to send a second payment if they would not give credit for the first one so I let it lapse. This company is such a scam. I have received 3 bills via mail now and HAVE NOT received ID cards as promised on ALL THREE bills. I have emailed FIVE TIMES in regards to getting my cards, and never received a response. I was stupid in January and set up an auto pay, which you cannot cancel, you have to get in touch with them and have THEM cancel it. I emailed them a sixth and final time to ask to have my auto pay cancelled, as it is almost March and I hadn't received ID cards and did not want to pay for a service I couldn't use. They FINALLY responded to THAT and sent alone my ID cards via email, but still no physical cards. I paid my first bill on time, but it was tacked onto my second bill. Knowing I paid it, I only paid for the second month and never heard another thing about it. Such a scam and misleading to put "last month's payment" on your new bill. Some people would pay for both. I WILL NOT be renewing this at the end of the year, and will be cancelling after my second cleaning this summer. I should have done my research before I signed up. read more

I just received my Jan 2022 billing statement with an $8.79 monthly increase. When I asked them about the increase they said they don't send out a notice of rate increase and that the only way their members will know is from the billing statement. Seems to be a pretty poor business practice not to mention raising their rates over $8 bucks a month is ridiculous. read more

This company is a full blown scam. I'm surprised that no governmental agencies have looked into them or their practices. I canceled my dental plan in March through the Nevada Healthlink Marketplace because I now have dental through my employer. They continued to charge me for 4 months. I tried calling a few times but was either on hold for a long time or it was after hours. Today I spoke to an agent that acknowledged that they could see that my plan was canceled on 3/31/2020 but they had the right to still charge me. None of this makes any sense. They admitted that my coverage was canceled, they charged me for 4 months after it was canceled and now they won't refund me. I notified the BBB and will be writing a letter to the State Attorney's Office in California and Nevada regarding this matter. read more

If I could give a lower star I would. I transferred from Spirit Dental to Best thinking it would be more affordable. I needed to have extractions done. They charge 10 cents every time i try to pay the insurance on their bogus site and doesn't take the payment. I called the marketplace to cancel they said i cant change it now. The dental office even heard BEST Life say that there was no waiting period when they called initially. They e-mailed me in December saying that if I did not re-enroll, they would auto-cancel my policy. Great, I wanted to cancel anyway since I didn't need dental insurance this coming year. I did the logical thing, and took no action so that my policy would be auto-canceled. In mid January, I see that my credit card has been charged for the policy. Weird since I was under the impression that my policy should have been auto-canceled. I went to see if my online account was still active so that I could try and sort it out, but they had deleted my account. Delete my account, but still taking my money? That makes no sense. So I e-mailed customer service since I sleep during normal business hours. I get no response, but I decide to remain patient since they probably get a big backlog this time of year due to policy turnovers. February 15th rolls around, I was charged again. I once again e-mailed to ask what was going on. Finally, on Monday February 26th, my FIRST e-mail is answered: 'Unfortunately, since you did not notify us to terminate your policy and cancel the recurring payments the policy continued. We do have a 14 day notification requirement. Since your initial date of contact was 01/15/2018 the earliest I can terminate your policy is 01/29/2018.The amount remaining after that date will be refunded to your card. Refunds can take up to two billing cycles.' Per my understanding in December, they were to auto-cancel, and now I'm being told that I needed to notify them to terminate the policy. I e-mailed them back re-explaining that I was told to not re-enroll for auto-cancellation. They answered again: 'I understand that you want to terminate your policy. If you chose not to renew you must notify us to cancel the recurring payment and to terminate the policy. We have a 14 day notification requirement. Since your initial date of contact was 01/15/2018 the earliest I can terminate your policy is 01/29/2018.' At this point, I'm obviously being quoted policy as if it were scripture and they are not addressing the fact that I was told in December that if I didn't re-enroll, it would auto-cancel. I stayed up during my normal sleep hours to call them to try and sort it out. When I tried explaining the situation to the first girl on the phone, she transferred me in the middle of explaining without saying why, just *click* and I was put on hold for over 20 minutes for someone else to deal with. The second person that I talked to was a little better, but still could not answer my question: 'Why was I told in December that it would auto-cancel if I didn't re-enroll, then BEST Life continue to charge me even though I did what I was instructed to have the policy canceled for me?' She asked if I still had the e-mail and scoffed with 'Of course...' when I said no. Seriously, why would I still have the e-mail when it was very straightforward that they would terminate my policy automatically for me if I took no action to re-enroll? My questions got shoved under the rug with "The financial department will reimburse you as they see fit, it will take up to two billing cycles.". I have disputed the charges with my credit card company at this point because BEST Life does not care about doing what is right, only about trying to keep money that they have stolen. Update: the credit card company talked to BestLIFE and was told that I would not receive a refund at all, per a letter I got in the mail today... which is funny since I got an e-mail from BestLIFE around that same time and was told that I would be refunded for just one month. Very disappointed. I paid my invoice for them and cancelled on the same day after I found out they wouldn't cover hardly anything. I can save more money paying out of pocket and taking a cash discount then waiting a year before they would cover anything. While the phone receptionist was super nice, they won't refund me the month I had literally just paid. Customer service is piss poor. For those dumb enough to actually buy insurance through this company (like I was) WATCH OUT! As stated by others this company has fraudulent practices that they admit to but state are ok because it's their policy. I canceled my coverage through the marketplace on July 31st. The marketplace stated I did not need to contact them because the marketplace notified them of the cancelation. Upon speaking with Best Life they stated they were notified of this cancelation as well. They charged me premium for both August and September. When I stated that was illegal as my approval for coverage was based on unemployment and I had employer coverage starting August 1st they said they weren't covering me but still charging me because I didn't contact them directly separate from the cancelation notice they t received from the marketplace. So they admit they didn't provide me coverage (would be illegal as I was not approved to have coverage once I had employer coverage) but charged me a premium for a policy that didn't exist.
