After a long search for tutoring in the Tri-City area for my second grader, I chose Simon Academics…read moreas they specialize in reading/writing instruction. My son has been taking private writing lessons with Ms. Advani since September 2017. My son was struggling with penmanship, letter formation, and proper capitalization/punctuation, all of which impacted his self-confidence when writing. I felt this caused him to shy away from his writing homework, which in turn impacted the amount of effort he put into these assignments. Three months into the tutoring sessions I can already see significant progress. More than anything I have noticed an attitude change. He is more conscientious about trying to write well, aware of what areas he needs to pay closer attention to. His letter formation and penmanship have improved, apparent just by flipping through his assignments from week 1 to date. Whereas before he would put in minimal effort to complete his writing assignments, today he takes a genuine interest in writing his stories and improving them through proofreading. He adds in extra detail to more clearly convey his thoughts and make them more interesting. This is all leaps and bounds above what I was expecting! My experience has been that Simon Academics helps children develop a healthy respect for the written word and an appreciation for the craft. I credit Ms. Advani with developing my son's confidence with fun challenges and activities. She is also very kind and patient; my son always tells me he looks forward to his tutoring sessions. Thank you Simon Academics - we are glad we found you and you are exactly what we needed. I look forward to continued progress in the months ahead.

They are very good at getting the lesson understood by the student. My kids have come home with a much greater confidence in the subjects they were having problems with and their grades have improved. Pros: Tutors are very friendly and helpful, they really know their stuff and are able to get my kids through the items they are having problems with. Scheduling is flexible, cancellations need to be done 24 hours in advance adding sessions is pretty easy just depends on availability of the tutor's schedules. Changes to schedule are pretty easily done so you don't need to worry about losing your place due to vacations or just not being able to make a session. Each tutor has a max of 3 students per session which is great. Zach at the front desk is the best, super helpful, easy to talk to and just an all around great guy. Cons: C2 is expensive (but I guess you get what you pay for). The lady there has an "in your face approach". When signing up be warned you will get the high pressure sales pitch to sign up and sign up to purchase a large block of hours. Think 'car dealership' type sales approach and be tough. No the session won't be taken by the person sitting in the waiting room to sign up after you. You do pay for 2 hour sessions and only get 1 hr 50 mins, they do the session at a weird time x:55pm to confuse the timing a little bit. But to be fair my kids have gone over 2hrs on a couple of sessions to finish up something, but you do pay for 110mins sessions and charged for 120 min sessions. Overall: Our experience there over the last 3 months or so have been positive. Bottom line they are helping my kids get up to speed on what they were having problems with and grades are improving. I can deal with the other stuff so long was my kids are improving and learning.

He was recommended to me by a parent whom he successfully tutored with great results as well. I was especially impressed by him when there was a practice test hiccup, was super responsive in resolving the issue, and took it upon himself to do a personal makeup for my son. I highly recommend Caleb as a 5-star tutor for test prep. Overall, our experience with AJ was very positive, but there is significant room for improvement for practice test sessions. My son took two practice tests that were not well-organized and frustrated him because he had prepared for them only to feel like his time was wasted. I provided direct feedback to AJ because I was surprised that that this happened twice in a row to my son. I expected a premium tutoring service like AJ to be able to run practice test sessions routinely and smoothly because when they don't it causes additional stress and time on the students and parents. I hope AJ takes this as constructive feedback for the future.

In my experience, this actually disrupted a method that had been working better for me, and my performance suffered rather than improved. I later reached out to Jack to explain my concerns and hoped to discuss what had gone wrong, but I did not receive a meaningful response. I also scheduled a strategy call, which was canceled on the basis that only one complimentary strategy call is allowed per student. This was particularly frustrating because I had previously been permitted to schedule more than one strategy call before becoming a paying tutoring client. Taken together, the lack of follow-up and cancellation made me feel that my concerns as a paying student were not being taken seriously. I would have appreciated accountability, a substantive discussion of the tutoring issues, and an effort to address the problem rather than simply ending communication. Based on my experience, I would not use their tutoring services again.
