Completely unorganized and unprofessional. I made an appointment in August for September 8th. She…read moredidn't contact me regarding it until the 7th at 12 in the morning. She said she would be out of town that day even though she had a good 2-3 weeks to tell me that. Not the day right before the appointment. We both agreed to change the appointment to Wednesday instead. But later on she texts me again and tells me she will need a specific brand of hair. It was getting really frustrating because she would only contact you with information at 11PM -1AM. So everything was very last minute. I asked her if there were any beauty supply stores that sell that specific brand near her salon and she still didn't respond so I asked to reschedule. I'm not from the city so I don't know the area well enough to know if there are any beauty supply stores by her who sell that brand. She rudely texted me back saying "hun.... there are beauty supply stores in Harlem." Yes, I am aware of that but I don't know if any of them are going to carry this specific brand of hair. The beauty supply stores in my area didn't carry it and since we're in the middle of a pandemic I don't want to go around too many places searching. Either way I decided it would be best to reschedule, that way I could just buy the hair online and go when I'm more prepared instead of being rushed. Once I told her this she got super mad. She was pissed that I was trying to reschedule and said that she doesn't have to save my spot if I cancel (when as you can see from her text I didn't cancel she asked to reschedule). She wrote a long paragraph in all caps stating all the reasons why she was mad. Then she said bc she doesn't charge a fee for the appointment that I shouldn't care if it's canceled/changed bc spots can't be saved. Which is just completely inconsiderate of other ppls time. If that's the case why even make appointments at all if my spot isn't garenteed? Then she banned me from the store because I said we will have to either reschedule or just cancel the appointment. The bad reviews that she has on yelp about her unprofessional behavior is obviously very accurate. What kind of business owner acts this way especially when they are the one that caused the inconvenience in the first place? I think she would benefit more from listened to the advice from her customers on here and improving customer service rather than just retorting back in anger. I feel like I dodged a bullet and I'm glad I didn't support her establishment.

I HAVE A BALD SPOT IN MY HAIR FROM TRAVIS. DO NOT BOOK WITH HIM!…read more I booked an appointment for a sew in. The entire time I am there he is upset and handling my hair very rough. He washes my hair rushed, conditioned my hair for 10 seconds and immediately rinses it out. He says sorry, he's just upset about other things and he wants me to get the style I came in wanting. So against by better judgement I stay. Then he braids my hair way too tight. Diane, the owner recommended a hair company for the extensions and I followed her recommendation. Prior to my appointment I asked Diane if the hair texture of the extensions were correct for my hair. She said yes. Appointment day approaches: Time of the appointment - 10am. When did I leave the shop? 9pm!! She twisted, took it out, re-twisted, looked left, looked right, up and down and basically seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. Diane's reasoning was that the extension hair didn't match my texture. I paid $261 dollars and left out feeling dissatisfied with the style. (Also her attitude was horrid) however, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and returned 2 weeks later. 2nd visit: Today. Now this is the part!! This time around I asked for a Sade ponytail (as it states on her site) which is basically a low ponytail that is braided with extension hair. I will let the pictures talk for themselves. I paid $125!! Again, she blamed the braiding hair, she blamed my hair length and everything else except her lack of skill. $125 and 3.5 hours later and voila!! Client beware!!!

I have been doing my own hair for a long time now and since returning to natural over seven years…read moreago, I've only visited one "natural" salon that made me reluctant to try any other for many years. A girlfriend of mine actually gave me the info for a different stylist that she uses regularly but upon calling up for a consultation, he referred me to Diane based on what I wanted to have done. I subsequently called Simplee Beautiful and made an appointment for the following week. I was initially relieved that I could just walk in and not have to have a consultationIt was a 2pm appointment and I got there pretty early but had to wait. I've never seen a set up like this before. It's like a salon mall. The location is a commercial building that housing various businesses. The salons are located on the lobby floor, towards the left at the Sola Salon Studios. There has to be at least twenty mini salons that make up the entire area. They're pretty cute, well-kept and clean. I basically just had to wait until the owner came to begin the process. She arrived at my appointment time and we spoke about what I would be getting done. I wanted to get a colour and have my hair lightened. We decided to cut a significant amount off because I want to make sure I'm starting off healthy. To reiterate, I do my hair myself so I treat, wash and style my own hair at home. Based on the state of my hair and what I explained my regiment to be, Diane offered up some key suggestions to help improve the state and health of my hair. She told me what I was doing wrong and told me exactly what to do and what products to use on my own based on my active lifestyle in order to achieve better results. She gave me a paper an pen so I could write everything down. I didn't walk out until 730 which was difficult. My stomach was growling and this is another reason why I kind of dislike natural salon visits because let's face it, it's going to take a longer time than if the hair is chemically treated or naturally straight which is another reason I prefer to do my own hair on my own time. If I'm going to be anywhere for that amount of time, Id rather be enjoying myself but to at least be in the comfort of your own home makes it a bit more tolerable. In her defense, my colour took a bit longer than expected because she did not use bleach to lift my hair colour, which I respect A LOT, and because my hair was so difficult, she had to process it for longer. In the end, I loved my colour and as for the cut; it's growing on me and I know it's for the best. The price, however, was a little outrageous. I ended up spending $300 for a cut, colour and twist-out style which I think is extravagant. I was prepared to pay close to that for what I originally intended to have done (dyeing clip-in pieces to match and style everything) but a big chunk of that got taken off the table while we were discussing possibilities so, I have no idea where the styling portion of my balance came out to $135.00. She had already quoted me $100 + $10 for the colour and extra processing time plus $55 for the cut. I am definitely willing to pay for something if it's worth it. I probably would have been a return customer had the end price not been so ridiculous and also not explained considering we changed the original plan, the fact that I was e-mailed a receipt without itemization and the length of time I spent, I probably would not come back. I basically spent 6 hours of my last vacation day, sweating under a dryer and steamer. As I said before, I was given a lot of gems of information during my visit and I definitely took notes, asked questions and picked Diane's brain for anything that might help improve my natural hair journey and I plan to implement her suggestions in my regiment, beginning this weekend after my heavy workout days. While I wouldn't go back, I am at least happy that I left looking good and got a chance to get information that will ultimately help me in the long run. If you do decide to check out this salon or any of the other salons located in Sola Salon Studios, make sure the stylist is aware of exactly what you want and you're both satisfied with what will be done and how much each service will cost. So, if you call up for an appointment and they schedule you, you may want to ask for a consultation first so that everyone is on the same page. I said before that I was initially relieved that she Diane did not require a consultation prior to an appointment but hindsight, I think I could have made a more educated decision on whether or not the price would be worth it as well as knowing exactly for what I am paying.

I've been traumatized since leaving your salon this week. I booked with Hally as wash, blow dry,…read moresteam condition trim and flat iron. She said she didn't steam condition. She washed and blew out my hair and when she was going to trim it I asked how the health of my hair looked. My hair WAS butt length. Natural. Yes I color it at home, but I take really good care of my hair. Hally asked if I wanted a trim or a cut for health and showed me what she said was transparent at the bottom of my hair which was approximately 4-5 inches. I said okay. Considering my hair is very long and a trim of about 4 inches will not make a huge dent. I agreed. When I got up from the chair there was soooooooo much hair on the floor. I immediately said to her that it looked like a lot of hair. She sat me by the dryers and when I went to feel my hair I stopped breathing. I couldn't talk. She curled it with the flat iron which wouldn't allow me to get the true gravity of the amount cut. She cut my butt length hair to almost the middle of my back. My hair is all uneven. Some pieces hit under my shoulder blade. It just choppy. It's horrible. In all my years getting my hair trimmed or cut, I've never experienced this. The time it will take for me to get my hair back to this length for me will probably take a year or more because of the unevenness. I'm just so sad from this experience. I even called her at the salon that night to express my anger and disappointment because I went home and stayed in the house to try to process this experience. I can not fathom why someone would think it is okay to chop someone's hair off like that and then gaslight me by saying "it'll grow back in 6-8 months. I know how to grow hair". I grew my hair. I didn't have a problem with that. I didn't go in for help to treat unkept hair or hair that was over processed and broken off. The insult at the end is that I paid for this. But in actuality I paid twice figuratively.
