I was 10 minutes early and Matt at first didn't say anything to me. Then said "oh are you David" after he was sitting there just on his phone. Then sighed and said "seems like everyone is just going to be early today". Which if you are trying to live up to "Grumpy Barber" they definitely did. Most importantly how was the hair cut? I showed him a picture of my standard haircut which is very straight forward and the majority of it is a buzz. He did it super fast and was super aggressive with my head. Shook it around all the time to get hair off which was not a pleasant experience. Then he was very pushy about giving a tip afterwards. When I got home I found a ton of uneven cuts and had to redo my haircut. That's always the worst thing afterwards. If you go here I hope you have a better experience than I did!

The guy who cut my hair was legit from NY, and pointed out all the other barbers in there who were from NY. Spanish is the defacto language in this shop. My rudimentary spanish helped me in making out a few topics, and it was cool to see that barbershop conversation is the same no mater the language or culture. My barber, and I forgot his name, was welcoming, shaking my hand and telling me it was nice to meet me. Legit, that personal touch of "it's nice to meet you" really made me feel welcome. To be transparent, I regularly get my hair cut at ethnic barber shops where I'm the only white guy in there, but these guys acted like it was nothing. The barber and I chatted about what I wanted, and he went right to work cutting my hair and talking about the differences between NYC and Raleigh, from food prices, to traffic. In the end, I got a great haircut, $30.00 for a high and tight with a straight razor shave, made me feel and look good, and in the nick of time as I needed that fresh cut before Sunday morning.
