I had garments that needed to be removed of dirt and subsequently pressed. Having never used a dry cleaner in Birmingham before and having few Yelp reviews to go off of, I decided to just use Berthon's since it was convenient for me, location-wise. My visit started off with me trying to open the doors on the corner and finding them locked, though it was during business hours. Was some cruel individual messing with me? I checked my watch to make sure I wasn't too early. I peered through the door but didn't see any sympathetic employees. Finally a woman emerged and gestured towards the front of the store, where there were some more [unlocked] doors. Oh. Um, maybe a sign explaining this locked door situation would be helpful? The lady who took my threads and gave me back my freshened threads was nice and polite. The stated turnaround time was around three days. I actually picked up my duds over a week later, and they were cool with that. Getting a two-piece suit and blouse cleaned set me back nearly $32 which seemed a little pricy but I'm not sure what the average is for Birmingham for getting such attire treated. If I could rate this a zero, I would!!! This place is absolutely awful! Deborah at the front desk has a foul attitude and their services are a zero for sure! We have wasted approximately $200-300 and will never again!!! The only reason why we went with them more than once was because of convenience. I will never ever again have clothes cleaned at this place. I brought in a white suit with the normal collar stains.when I returned to pick it up I noticed a brown stain about 12 inches long on the lapel. At least twice it was sent back for a " redo" and once I was told to call before i return. I stopped in yesterday 6/16/17 to pick up suit and the brown stain was still visible on the collar but not as pronounced. When i arrived home I looked at the suit in the light and noticed there was the same brown stain near the pocket. This suit for all practical purposes is ruined. read more

This place is terrible. I paid extra for expedited service picking up on Wednesday. The door was locked when I got there at 5:45 (they close at 6:15) I knocked and the woman who answered said the system was down to find my shirt. I told her I had paid for rush service and she literally said "do you expect me to sort through all these to find your shirt?" To which my answer was yes, since I paid you extra to do so. She found it in 2 minutes. She said if it took any longer she was gonna be pissed. If I said that at my job I would have been fired on the spot. I gave them 2 stars because they actually did a decent job on my shirt. Maybe this place was actually good at one time? I'm not going back. read more

By far the worst experience I've ever had with a dry cleaner. I don't known if they used to pride themselves with service in the past, but that clearly isn't their focus at their new location on Clairmont. I've been to them twice and the second time was only out of convenience. As soon as I walked in I realized that was a mistake. I probably should have just turned around and walked back out. The woman working greeted me with a groan and some mumbling under her breath about the day her day was going. Mind you it was 7:45am and I was probably the first customer there. The only other words I got out of her were "phone number" and "these won't be don't until Monday". Did I mention it was 7:45am on Thursday? At a dry cleaner that is open Monday through Saturday? Save yourself the time and money (because they certainly don't have the best prices around) and just use one of the countless other dry cleaners around. I know I will next time. read more

When I dropped off 6 dining room chair slip covers to be cleaned, I was quoted a price that sounded fair to me. I asked if I could pay then, and the woman told me no, I would need to pay when I picked them up the following week. She gave me a small slip of paper as a claim check, but nowhere on it was the price i had been quoted -- or any other price. I didn't think anything of that. When I went to pick the slip covers up the next week, they charged me DOUBLE the quoted price and claimed no one had quoted me the original price. I'm certain that's false. Before deciding on Berthon's, I called and stopped in at a few other cleaners to compare prices and turn-around time. I chose Berthon's because of the price they quoted me, which I remember quite clearly. I even remember multiplying the number by 6 and saying the total out loud to the woman. May I suggest, Berthon's, that you allow people to pre-pay to avoid situations like this -- or at least put the price on the ticket you give the customer at drop-off? There should be no misunderstanding on price once an item is dropped off. It was weird to be in a she-said/she-said situation like this. read more
