My dryer at home has broken down multiple times in the last few years and University Laundromat has served as the absolute best place to help out each and every single time. I was extremely intimidated by going to a laundromat before my first time- stereotypes that it'd be unsafe or dirty couldn't help but take over my mind- but University Laundromat squashes any bad perception you may ever have. Every employee is a literal God send- SO kind, so patient, and always putting 110% into their work to ensure the best quality service for their patrons. The place is very clean and the entire washer/dryer process is extremely simple. The price is very reasonable (I usually pay at most $12 total for a large load!) and the overall quality just cannot be beat. They also offer a drop-off service where they'll take care of your clothes from start to finish-even folding- ready for you to pick up! My dryer is currently down again and honestly I'm not even mad about it knowing I can rely on University Laundromat, will be heading there real soon! read more

I was feeling very overwhelmed due to the amount of laundry that had piled up over the last two months, since starting a new job. I decided to take both mine and my boyfriend's laundry here. He actually is the one who told me about it since he used to do this every so often for himself back in the day! The service cost me $70 and it was completed within a few hours. I went to do some early morning laundry since my own washer at home is not working and discovered this place. They were open earlier than the 7:30 time listed which made me quite happy. As soon as I entered an older gentleman behind the counter greeted me and immediately asked how I was doing. After greeting him back he began to tell me with it being New Years Eve they would only be open till 6. He explained the cost of things and where the coin machine was and I got to loading my clothes. Now I had about two weeks worths of dirty laundry so I was there about 2 hours including drying. The older gentleman was very helpful while walking around and maintains the store. He even helped me with the washers because to lock them it kinda requires some good force/pressure. There was plenty of seating and one area in particular is quite nice if you like to watch what's going on in the streets. They have this little bar stool area that was comfortable while I wrote in my journal waiting on my clothes. Overall friendly, clean, welcoming place. Went here for the first time because the laundry units at my apartment were temporarily out of order. Went into it not realizing how many quarters I would need. There was a nice man inside (the owner I'm assuming) who told us if we didn't have enough he would help us out, and I appreciated that when he could have easily been irritated with my ignorance. Our washing machine and our clothes dryer both stopped working, so we had dirty clothes. The inside is very clean at University Laundromat, the restrooms are very clean, and there's plenty of parking space. The temperature is very comfortable once you step inside the laundromat, not hot, not sticky like some laundromats tend to be. ​I received a text message when my clothes were ready for me to pick up. When I called (205) 552-9761, a very nice man answered, and the young ladies working were so nice, they said hello, made me feel welcome. This place is always clean... staff is very friendly... machines are in perfect condition. They offer free Wi-Fi and a t.v. to watch. Maybe they could improve their service if they 1) laundered our clothes free of charge 2) provided a masseuse free of charge 3) paid our mortgages. The level of customer service respect and facilities is far better than any I have ever seen the attendant is that I observed him just giving a snack to a child whose mother was dealing with that child and washing I'm in transition to Birmingham and will have to use the washer to I get my furniture but this is where I choose to come for those needs until then exceptional I tell you!!!! read more

I've only used a laundromat twice in my life so I'm not really an authority on what their condition or service should be. I will say that the attendant saw my walking up with my hands full and ran to the door to hold it for me. Everything looked fairly clean and in order and it all of their machines appeared to be working. I used the small washing machines which run $3.5 per load and the dryers will set you back $1.50 for 30 minutes. I sat with my laundry until it was done and didn't have a problem with anyone. I am so impressed by the service of this place! Due to working some long hours and having an apartment without a connection, I had grown quite behind on my laundry. I read fellow reviews stating that this laundromat had drop off service. I gathered everything I had from clothes to towels and loaded them up in baskets and bags. I dropped them off early in the day around 10am. The guy behind the counter was kind enough to carry the clothes in. He made me a quick ticket and collected my info. About 3 hours later they texted that my laundry was done. I was amazed at how neat everything was. They hung and folded every single item! All my pieces were super clean and organized. This is not a cheap service, but it was well worth the price. I was just so glad to have it all done and off my hands. For times when I'm not so overwhelmed and pressed, I will not hesitate to come here. It was clean and the equipment looked very new and well taken care of. read more

Not having a W/D connection in my apartment I loath doing laundry at public laundromats. I stumbled upon this newly opened place today. This is the cleanest laundromat I've ever stepped foot in. All the machines are brand new, floors spotless, with granite folding tops. I was amazed at how clean this place is as most every laundromat I've been to is moldy, dirty, and smells of mildew. Upkeep is superb. There is a man who works here who saw me getting out of the car and opened the door for me. Greeted me and asked what I was washing, showed me to an appropriate sized washer and assisted me in loading the washing machine. He then introduced himself and shook my hand. About 20 minutes later he shouted out my name letting me know how much time until the cycle was done. I even noticed him helping people fold their towels and clothes for no other reason but to be helpful. Was pleasantly surprised about how genuinely interested he seemed to be with all his customers. One of the best customer service experiences I've had in a while and it just happened to be at a laundromat. Prices are: $3 for small washers (2 loads) $5 for medium washers (5 loads) $7 for large washers (7 loads) They also do dry cleaning. read more

THANK YOU FOR BEING AWESOME. i don't like to wash my clothes at a laundromat, they are hot and take forever haha... so because of this laziness within, they have an awesome drop of service. It's like a $1.00 to $1.50 per pound. So I typically bring in a bag (minus underwear and bras because man... that's just too weird someone touching my underroos) of clothes (sometimes really late in the day because I am a procrastinator...) they always take them, wash and text me when it's done. AWESOMENESS. the only bad thing is, they fold a heck of lot better than i do, so when i take my clothes home, i feel like i failed the other clothes in my closet. My washer broke and I ended up here in late June of COVID-19. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly both on the phone and in person, and the machines are quick and reasonably priced. Loaded up five of the small washers with clothes and towels, and we even got a nice breakfast recommendation. I will 100% return. read more

First off I'd like to say I would have given University Laundromat a 4 star except for a follow up issue. The owner/manager was very friendly and helpful when we came in to drop off our laundry. He double checked with us that everything could be washed together and asked if we had a soap preference - no extra charge if we did. He also checked if we wanted my husband's dress shirts hung on hangers - for a slight extra charge - we didn't. The laundry was ready on time, completely dry and folded and bagged neatly for a very reasonable cost. For less time and money than if we had done it ourselves at our previous budget hotel and a whole lot less money than at the conference hotel where we were heading to. All together we were well pleased and I would have gladly have given him 4 stars. Then we got to our conference and opened the bag to find a stack of someone else's white/gray hand towels/wash cloths in the bag. We were quite concerned and immediately texted the laundromat - which was how he communicated with us - but he didn't respond. Before we left the Birmingham area we again texted the laundromat and still received no response. We were unable to make it back to the laundromat to drop off the cloths because the end of the conference and our flight out of Atlanta made things very tight for us, but we thought the complete radio silence about the cloths extremely strange and a little rude. read more

Best service in town! The wash and fold is a bargain! I especially enjoy that they do large items like comforters and blankets. My sheets are always extra soft and folded perfectly. I use this place primarily for dry cleaning. They are prompt and professional. Once, my suit was not ready for me when I came after two days because some items had been left where the washing was done. The attendant called the place until he got a hold of them and ensured my suit was delivered before I needed to leave town for an interview. Great experience, I highly recommend. read more

This place is really clean and the people are nice. The only thing keeping it from having 5 stars is the price. Washing: $3, $5, or $7 per load depending on what size washer you use. Drying: $1.50 I think. I forgot how much time you get for that. Maybe an hour. I didn't expect the price per load to wash would be that much. I also tried to service where they wash everything for you and charge by the pound. It was really nice. I didn't have to lift a finger. When I pulled up someone came outside and got my basket. They texted me when my clothes were ready and put them back in my car when I got there. The clothes smelled amazing and were folded to perfection. I am here for over a week. My clothes got all wet due to the torrential rains. I took two bags to them of all sorts of clothes-some for work. I had them wash them. They did a fabulous job. This is by far the best laundromat in Birmingham. It is sparkling clean with all brand new, efficient washing machines and dryers of varying sizes. The owner is one of the kindest and most helpful men I've ever met, and he's been there every time I've gone, ready and waiting to assist. He opened the door for me, offered to help me carry my laundry baskets out of my car, and gave me a cute (and very useful) little zip-up coin pouch for free. The dryers dry your clothes in half the time other laundromats' dryers do (not sure how, magic, maybe?). Because I was running late one day from coming back home after putting my clothes in the washer, the owner went ahead and started my clothes in the dryer for me with his own money (!) (knowing beforehand that they were all dryer friendly, of course) and was very casual about me paying him back the $4.25 it cost to dry SEVEN giant loads. Meaning, tis cheap to dry one's clothes there! The owner will offer to help you fold your clothes, which is extremely nice, especially when your significant other won't (or is incapable of) doing the same. The owner also offers dollar coins to keep your pockets less full of quarters. Also, it's not steaming hot in there, which is the case with many other laundromats around B-ham. And there's a TV! AND free wireless internet. Y'all, this place rules. If that's all not enough to sell you on the place, he will take your dry-cleaning, have it cleaned for you, and have it back at the laundromat within an extremely reasonable amount of time (round about 3 days? but most recently I got 2 dresses back the day after I gave them to him!). And the dry-cleaning isn't expensive AT ALL, compared to what I'm used to, at least. If you live in the Glenn Iris area, it would be insane to go to any other laundromat. And if you live anywhere else in Southside, or anywhere in Birmingham, really, you should absolutely check this place out. You will never want to go to another laundromat again. Ever. Around the Birmingham, Southside area, this is about the best laundromat you're going to find. It's clean, there's free wifi, and the machines are in good working order. The staff are also friendly and helpful, and there's convenient coin-changing machines and also a couple vending machines. If you don't have cash on you, you can make a withdrawal from them for a small fee ($2, I think), and they sell convenient little single serve detergent packs and dryer sheets for a small fee in case you forgot yours. That's all quite convenient. Prices are somewhat expensive, though: Small washing machine - $3 per load, Medium washing machine - $5 per load High capacity washing machine - $7 per load Small dryer - $1.50/30 minutes Big dryer - $2.50/30 minutes I guess you get what you pay for, though, as the cleanliness and upkeep of the place is quite good, so I can't really complain much. As for that one person who was complaining about the "lies" in their hours, the laundromat does indeed stay open until 10pm, but they turn new people away at 9pm. That last hour is only for people who are already there to finish up their loads. Otherwise inconsiderate people would show up at 10 minutes before 10pm and demand to wash their clothes, thus forcing the poor staff to stay their until 11pm or later. It's a completely understandable and reasonable policy, and perfectly easy to follow with a bit of forethought and planning on the part of the customer. Overall, I'm a pretty satisfied with this place, and although I look forward to the day when I have my own laundry machines at home, I'll keep coming here for now. P.S. - I've never used their dry cleaning service before, so I can't comment on that. read more

I'm not usually so inspired by a laundromat experience that I feel compelled to write a review, but this place is special. The first thing I noticed was the cleanliness of the place; you can tell when a business is well run and cared for. The choice of machines also impressed me...there are the usual double load front loaders here, but also triple and quad load machines, with an impressive wall of dryers along the back wall. I like that the dryers have a two minute cool down at the end of the cycle, so your clothes don't come out feeling as if they'll burst into flames at any moment. You can also add time in 5 minute increments to the dryers once you've started the half hour cycle, so you get the exact amount of drying time you need for your load. And, last but not least, there's the friendliness and helpfulness of the owner and staff here. When's the last time you had a laundromat owner assist you to your vehicle with your clean clothes? That was my experience today. A good location near campus rounds out the list of positives for this place. Well done! read more

I am really impressed with this laundromat/dry cleaners. Dan, the owner, came out to my car to help me unload my laundry. Since this was my first time here, Dan kindly gave me a brief orientation on the use of the machines and to the establishment. They offer wash and fold service, free wifi and they accept credit cards. The establishment is clean and spacious. The customer service is exemplary. Dan knows his regulars by name and goes out of his way to help his customers and to make them feel welcome. I would highly recommend this place for all of your laundry needs. read more
