I only get to visit at most, once a year and I really need to find a way to change that. The owner, Claudia, is the most beautiful and kind person and treats everyone like family. You may even get to see the farm doggo if you're lucky! If you are like me and enjoy finding unique fruits and veggies that you don't see in any grocery store or even at your summer farmer's markets, this is the place for you! The drive is a quick one from Denver and once you are there on the farm, you kind of forget where you are! The store will take you back in time with it's simple set up with vintage coolers that store all of those beautiful veggies, and old tables stacked with baskets filled with even more veggies and fruits. There are heirloom options and the choices vary throughout the season as new things come in. On one of my visits this past summer, I picked up a huge bunch of home-grown Edamame that was far better than anything I have gotten anywhere else. It was actually quite fun to remove them from the stems to wash and cook up. I also was able to find beautiful Italian green beans - my absolute favorite and never-able-to-find option. The tomatoes are always a go-to and are so flavorful. I found out how the heirloom options are grown in the greenhouse and how that has provided the sweetest results and can confirm, they are very sweet and delicious. Along with the veggies and fruits, you will also find some locally made goodies sold in a brown paper bag that are a great treat to take for the ride home. Also, don't miss the dried pepper selection! There is also a cooler/freezer with meats and fresh eggs. When I was there, it was golden raspberry picking time and there were many families out for the tractor ride to the bushes to pick their own. Be sure to check out their website for hours - the opening is limited and you want to avoid making a trip unnecessarily and you can find out about special events, picking times for the fruits, cakes, and flowers and CSA share options. Went with Adams County School District for a field trip with a bunch of pre schoolers, and this is a definitely a place to go also for educational purposes as well (besides family activities). They had a small educational discussion about bees and how they make honey and their purpose in the animal kingdom as well jewelry making too! They were able to pick their own pumpkins out after going on a hay ride to another location to get them (and yes, they had fun as well). I would definitely recommend this to any school for the little ones. Definitely a lot of hands on actives and a great way to teach them about how certain things work/grow. read more

I just had the best day ever. Right when we walked onto the farm I could tell we were in for a treat. A gigantic pig greeted us, as well as roosters with funny feathers on their feet. We walked up to a stand at the back of the market got a flat of empty pint cartons and we were off on our berry picking adventure! They advised us that strawberry picking might be a little slim today and we could only pick 3 quarts of them. We overflowed 3 quarts easily with beautiful, shiny, red strawberries. If today was picked over, I can't imagine what it's like when strawberries are plentiful. There were some spiky weeds every once in awhile so be aware of those, otherwise you might end up with a palmful of thorns. We then moved onto the raspberries, which I thought were significantly harder to pick. Once in awhile I would find a jackpot of 5 or 6 berries on the same branch and I would get really excited. There were a lot more bees in the raspberries than the strawberries, but the bees are really mellow and don't harass you like the ferocious city bees we have in Denver. If you are scared of grasshoppers, I would strongly advise not picking raspberries, they are EVERYWHERE. I, on the other hand, just flicked them off and kept picking. Strawberries- $5 per pound Raspberries- $6 per pound We spend around $30 for a whole flat of berries (see picture) and some basil. We will definitely be coming back at least once a year, I am in love, and I want to be a farmer. read more

I love Berry Patch Farms. It is one of my absolute favorite places in all of Colorado, and that's saying something. My daughter turned three at the end of July, and this past weekend we threw her a birthday party up in Brighton at this fantastic farm. We had 13 kids, ten adults, and I'm just about positive that everyone, kids and adults alike, had a great time. We had a hayride out to the strawberry fields where everyone managed to pick so many red, ripe strawberries they were spilling out of the tops of the pint cartons. SO GOOD. We had two picnic tables reserved for us in the shade, so we were able to relax and hydrate in comfort upon our return from the fields. And, despite the fact that I had brought neither water nor enough utensils to pass around (oops), everything was taken care of by farm staff with ease. I have nothing but great things to say about Tim and his crew at Berry Patch. They're phenomenal. They only charged me $5/kid for the whole party, and I couldn't be more pleased. The cost included a pint of strawberries for each child, hayrides to and from the field, lots of playtime chasing chickens and ogling the enormous pot-bellied pig, and picnic space. Total win. Go support them! Their operation is top notch! read more

We have experienced this great farm from two different perspectives: 1) we participate in their CSA, and 2) we visited the farm to do raspberry and strawberry picking (which is included in the CSA). This place is so great on so many levels. The CSA is wonderful. It lasts from May into October, and both their quality and portions are generous. They grow a lot of very interesting vegetables that they include each week, so it's fun exploring them and trying new dishes. We always have plenty of food, and sometimes even have to give some away to friends to make sure it doesn't go to waste. Tim and Claudia are so great. They're so nice when we speak to them over the phone or in person when we visit the farm. They are also super flexible and are willing to help with any CSA pickup or other issues. The farm is absolutely beautiful, and is easily accessible for fruit and flower picking. Great activity for kids! I have a feeling we will do the CSA forever. Thanks Berry Patch! read more

this a GEM of a find and special place my son and I go to every summer. Fields of berrys that you self pick. I have made countless fresh pies from them and they are so yummy! Theres something to be said about getting back to nature and doing it yourself, it feels great. Great in door shop as well for other produce if you dont want to pick it yourself small farm, picnic benches and rocking chairs. They drive you out to the spots your wanting to go. We went at end of summer, we are going earlier for better pickings this year! cant wait. read more

So, have I ever told you that I'm a little nuts? I have this notion that I would love to go back and be Laura Ingalls, only with running water and real toilets. And washing machines. Other than that I'm good. Oh, and dishwashers. Anyway, getting into the pioneer/wild frontier spirit for me is something I need. And to do that, I love to make and can my own foods. Including raspberry jelly. Which brings me back to Berry Patch Farms. You get to ride in a covered trailer (I pretend it's a wagon) for five minutes while you are taken to the areas of the field designated for harvest that day. And then you get to pick raspberries. And pick you do. My mom and I picked for about an hour in the raspberry field to get enough for jelly. There are other things to harvest yourself, but we limited ourselves to raspberries. This was last Fall, by the way. Then you come back to the little farm store, crammed full of every vegetable imaginable. They have fresh eggs some days. They have local honey (awesome!). They have herbs. They have a lot of city people who like to gather produce in the fields. Once you decide on whatever else you want, they weigh your raspberries for purchase and check you out. On the register, I mean, not like at a bar. Then you take your berries home to make jelly. And pretend you're a farm girl where this canning is all that comes between you and a long, hard Winter. read more

Ventured out to the farm on a Saturday morning with a group of lovely Yelp ladies who also share a food preserving (hoarding?) passion. We thought we were "early" by arriving at nine but get there even earlier for the best pickin'. Berry Patch Farms grows strawberries the way nature intended: tiny, red and super sweet. Not the fist sized, crunchy, tasteless ones you find at the grocery store. Our day at Berry Patch Farms brought me back to childhood and the berries my parents grew and I would pick and eat before they made it into the house. Prices vary based on what you pick and the weight. When we went, I think strawberries were $3/lb and raspberries were $5/lb. We started out in the raspberry field, but Tiffany W and I quikly migrated to the strawberries while Laurie W and Wanda C concentrated on raspberries. Unfortunately, pickins were a bit slim, thanks (or no thanks) to the hot and dry summer we had. One can conceivably pick as much fruit as they need, but it takes some time. Luckily, we found a few "money rows" for strawberries towards the end and I was able to bring home about four pints of strawberries. Bring gloves for extra effective picking. Some of the ripest berries were hiding behind sticker weeds where most people won't tread. The farm has a great store with farm-grown produce, ethically raised meat, dairy, and eggs and Great Harvest Bread. Buy some Great Harvest cookies and enjoy them outside on a table with the farm's eclectic chicken flock. It was pretty hard and hot work (my hammies were aching the next day from the stoop labor), but your work will be well rewarded when you get your berries home to eat and make delicious jam. read more

Upon arrival, I was reminded of growing up, in CA's Central Valley- the smell of the weeds growing along the ditch bank, the sounds of grasshoppers, tractors and distant water pumps... I was surprised at the number of Volvo's and SUV's lining the street. We hadn't made the trek as early as we had hoped, so everywhere I looked was a soccer mom calling for her Madison/ Parker/ Dylan... I lost my wife and mother-in-law pretty quickly, when they picked up their baskets and headed out to the field in search of fresh strawberries to pick. My son and I tried to find the petting zoo I had heard about, only to find there is no petting zoo. There are, however, some critters in a side pen- chickens, a turkey or two, a pot-bellied pig. We were told that, if we could catch them, we could pet the animals all we wanted. After wandering around a bit, we got to watch as some peppers were roasted, then it was time to wait as the wife and MIL paid for their berries. If you don't like being in a crowded area, like I don't, I recommend against hanging out in the main barn while your goods are paid for. The line was long and slow-moving, there was really no place to stand out of the way, and those soccer moms were still trying to get the attention of their Madison/ Parker/ Dylan. read more

I contacted the kind folks at Berry Patch in March, when we first moved to the area. I was lucky enough to secure one of their last full-share of CSA's, which started this week. The farm is easy to find, with signs pointing the way. The property is beautifully rustic, everything you would think of in a farm. Tim and Claudia are wonderful. They truly care what they are doing. I heart Berry Patch Farm :) Maybe it's because of the childhood memories it evokes, or maybe it's because I'm a baker and love working with fresh produce. I would say it's because I have a ton of fun, and I can just imagine my KIDS having a ton of fun here one day, but that would freak E out, kinda like our trip to the Jared jewelry store did the other day. So I'll say it's because I love being able to make raspberry buttermilk cake and strawberries 'n' dumplings with fresh fruit... This farm isn't huge, but it's definitely big enough. Lots of strawberries and red raspberries, but also black and gold raspberries, vegetables, and flowers (their zinneas are beautiful and in a dozen different colors). You are provided with cartons but have to supply the beat-up tennis shoes that will inevitably get mud caked all over them. I have a blast here. I get to eat berries off the bush and tromp in the mud and chase chickens and have an all-out good time. Their prices are reasonable, although they have gone up recently, but I always come away with a lot of loot for less than I bargained for. That's always pleasing. Besides the pick-your-own fruits, they have a farm store that sells a good selection of veggies, and also grass-fed beef from a local supplier and cage-free eggs. Come early to get the best pick of everything - berries, store produce, and eggs. And above all, be prepared to have fun. That's what this farm thrives on! read more

What a great place! My husband and I visited Berry Patch Farms this past weekend and had a great time and came home with a lovely and delicious bounty of strawberries and fresh veggies. We picked our own strawberries (fun! and provided a whole new appreciation for those folks who don't mind doing this kind of work on a regular basis 'cause it ain't easy) and visited with some chickens and turkeys. We also loaded up on lots of already picked veggies that they have for sale in their market and they are tasty, tasty, tasty. Especially fun was a pre-packed bag of ingredients with an attached recipe for salsa - so great! I made it a couple of days later and was super fresh tasting, SUPER garlic-y and oh so delicious! The people that work at Berry Patch Farms were also very friendly and helpful and definitely knowledgeable. Raspberries are coming into season now and we can't wait to get back up there and do some more picking. Kids or no kids, this is a great place! read more

I can't believe that it took me this long to venture up to Brighton. I've been getting newsletter emails for at least a year. Last night as we were sitting on the couch I got one and read through it and thought, tomorrow is supposed to be gorgeous. sounds like a good saturday adventure. So my first experience was mid JANUARY (what was I thinking?!) Lucky for us the weather was perfect and my friend Jen and I were able to get a nice variety of vegetables. Claudia was so friendly, chatted with us for a good 10 minutes like we'd known one another for years. I can't wait to make a big pot of soup with the carrots, leeks, baby kale and rosemary that I got. I also bought a giant bag of frozen san marzano tomatoes that will be made into tomato sauce. The pig, turkey and chickens wandering around outside totally made my day. I mean come on, where else (in January) can you go hang outside in the sun with the backdrop of snow capped mountains, big blue skies and friendly little animals running around?! It was perfect. It would be a blast to come back with kids. Berry Patch Farms has been moved to the top of my to do list once spring hits and the growing season is back in full swing. My berry farm picking knowledge is limited, but I think this place is the cat's meow. You pull in and park by the main barn, which is filled with fresh herbs, vegetables, fruit, jams, sauces, breads, and pre-made bags for things like salsa and tomato sauce. Everything you need to make it is in the bag, all fresh and yummy looking back at you. When you walk out of the other side of the barn you come to the most enormous pig in existence. Her name is Bacon Bits, and her gal pal is named Pancetta. Errant chickens meander around and there were a few beautiful Aussie-looking friendly dogs that, miraculously, left the chickens alone. We hopped on the wagon and were brought out the the strawberry and raspberry patches, where my daughter, husband and I picked our little hearts out. It was so much fun! We want to go back when we have more time to peruse the non-pickable merchandise in the barn. It is about a 30 min. drive from Cherry Creek, super easy to find and worth the drive! read more

I had the absolute pleasure of attending a farm dinner here, and it was truly an amazing experience. The produce from the farm featured in the meal was incredible. What made the dinner so special was the owners of the farm. They were so kind and warm and gave everyone a heartfelt testimonial about why they do what they do. I will be back to pick some of the delicious berries featured in our dinner for many years to come. Ah the first day of spring had me fondly reliving some happy summer memories and trying to shake the frost off my brain.....or something like that. We visited Berry Patch Farms last summer, with a couple other families, with the intent of picking strawberries and raspberries to then teach our kids the whole bit about, no, food doesn't just magically appear on the grocery store shelves and also hopefully to make some jam or preserves. I can tell you, no preserves or jam resulted from this visit but it was a ton of fun. My kids completely supercalifragi-love this place! The big kids got straight to work picking raspberries like they were being paid for it, and the little ones got straight to work eating them. The three yr old looked like she'd been gnawing on small wild animals or in a horror flick, she was so covered in berry juice (actually, she puked later, but it was worth it). Anywho, they have lots and I mean LOTS of bushes that need picking (including golden raspberries). Also, they are organic. While we were there they were also selling freshly roasted chiles and tons of other fabu looking produce. On their website you they show what foods are ripe for the picking (no pun intended) at what times. So check them out this summer, very worthwhile little adventure! read more

Really fun place to take kids. Went with a friend for a little one's birthday party. They had the kids pick berries then it started raining and they were awesome! They took them up to the top of the barn and showed movies. It was a lot of fun and they have the most interesting produce. We showed up and an employee told us we probably wouldn't be able to find any raspberries that day as they were picked through, however, we persisted and picked 2 containers-ful. Our kids love coming here during early autumn to pick raspberries and strawberries right off the plants. We usually stay about 45 minutes and get full cartons of berries. There is no admission fee, you just pay for what you choose to pick at the little farm store where they also sell other local produce. Picking the berries does involve bending over repeatedly for adults, but the rows of plants are otherwise very accessible. read more

If you have time in your busy schedule for a drive to the country this is the place to go. Check out their great website for what is in season before you make the trip. They have a great little store for all of their fresh, organic produce. However, if you really want to get "down on the farm" plan a day trip and go berry picking. There is no shade in the fields and you might have to really hunt for some good berries because the farm is really busy any may be picked over. However, it is worth it! You can say hi to all the little farm animals and cut some fresh flowers and herbs to take home. It's a berry good time! read more

I just took my 3yo daughter to Berry Patch Farms this weekend to pick blackberries and it was great. They provide free tractor rides out to whatever is in season and they tell you what is about to come into season so you can harvest things at their freshest. My daughter had a blast and we made jelly that night with all of our berries. One tip though, bring a wide brimmed hat and sunscreen. Your out in the sun when picking your fruits and veggies and its easy to get sunburn if your not carefull. read more

Organic and fun! This is the only farmers' market/u-pick place I know of in the area that's also organic. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful. My kids enjoy looking at the pot belly pig and chickens that wander around. The fruit is delicious, of course. If you can, try to get there on a Tuesday or Wednesday if you want the best shot at picking a LOT of berries. By Saturday, it is sometimes picked over from earlier in the week. If you call ahead, they'll advise you on the best day for picking what you're after. read more
