I do not know what happened to my previous review, but here goes again! I live in San Diego, and every year my Aztec Dance group would go to the Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial to dance. The smell of the firewood they used, instantly brought back 36 years of memories. So.... When I found out that Berry Bros. has Shaggy and Alligator Juniper, there began my annual journey from San Diego to Phoenix to get a van-full of the delicious-smelling firewood. The staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend this place for all of your fireplace needs. They even sell metal frames to store your firewood. These guys are phenomenal. I have been dealing with them for years now and they have never failed to deliver. One one occasion we were getting ready to leave camping for two weeks and I had a bum leg and was there to get firewood. Normally I would load myself from the bulk area. I've been here 3 times. They're always busy, but someone always magically appears at my window within minutes. The wood is of high quality, lots of variety, prices are fair, and they load it into your car for you and you're on your way. I just bought what I thought was about 1/2 cord of mesquite and shaggy bark juniper. Beware that they don't use standard "cord" measurements. A half cord is one pallet stacked 4 feet high (4 x 4 x 4) which equates to 64 cubic feet. Berry Bros use these prefabricated metal "stackers" to measure out what they call a "stack". Visually; two of these stacks appear to be about a pallet. But they aren't. As I said; a half cord is 64 cubic feet. When I got home I measured the volume of my 4 "stacks". The total volume came out to 48 cubic feet; 16 cubic feet less than 1/2 cord. Keep this in mind when you compare prices with other firewood providers. read more

I was referred to Berry Bros after I wrote a review complaining about Paul Bunyan's Firewood. Our really nice neighbor recommended Berry Bros, so we went over to their location at 50th Street and Washington last week. We arrived at their place about 5 or 10 min past closing time (5pm) and you'd NEVER have known it! Everyone was SO NICE. They didn't tell us to hurry, didn't say they were ready to close and they did not try to rush us out. We've always had our firewood delivered, but we wanted to go and check the place out. The prices are great, esp when you pick it up yourself. I have to say: after spending thousands of dollars over the years at Paul Bunyan's Firewood and then being blown off several times... the final straw was when we were treated so rudely on the phone. We are SO HAPPY that we not only found a DIFFERENT place to get firewood, but we found a BETTER place to buy our firewood! We highly recommend Berry Bros. read more

Admittedly had been a loyal customer of the 'other big firewood shop' in town for years. After the 'other big firewood shop' refused to sell me wood any longer because they only sell the good stuff to restaurants, I came to Berry Brother's. Summer was the name of the lady running things. As far my firewood buying experience goes, this place is A #1. I love the wood I got here, I think they called it alligator wood or something like that. Anyway, it's good wood that burns slowly & smells nice. I have a condo & didn't want a massive amount of firewood, so it's nice they sell it in smaller $20 bundles. The one negative is, that they don't take credit or debit. They do have one of those cheese ball ATM machines that you usually only find in shady bars & random bodegas. They lose one star in my near perfect firewood buying experience for that. It's almost 2011, & I bought a crepe this morning with a debit card, which was rung up on a smart phone app. I am fairly sure Berry Bros Firewood can figure this paying with plastic thing out. When they do, it's 5 stars all the way baby. read more

Usually I cut my own wood, but middle of last winter I found myself in a pinch running out of wood and having no time to cut more. Went to Berry Bros and purchased a cord of mesquite. Apparently they get it from Hyder AZ. It's good, dry mesquite and has burned well, and I still have some leftover for this winter. Many of the pieces are very large, and since it's mesquite, you would need a VERY big fire to get some of these pieces to burn. I used my axe (and even my maul a couple times) to split the pieces into smaller burnable ones. My only gripe would be that most of the pieces of their mesquite are not cut at even angles on the ends, so they will not stand up on their own when you set them down vertically to split. I needed to use a wedge the majority of the time so the logs would stand up on their own Again this is a small gripe, but for what I spent I would like the wood to have even 90 degree angles on each side to facilitate easier splitting. I will be back again if I find myself running out of wood this winter. read more

I was headed up north for a quick weekend camping trip and needed some firewood for the trip. After looking around at the valley's options, this place stood out and worked perfectly. We grabbed a small bundle of rock pine for $10. Considering most camping places sell a few sticks for $7, this was a steal of a deal. Once I tried to start a fire, the deal got even better. The fire started quickly and lasted a long time. I will definitely come back here for firewood the next time I need to stock up for campfires. read more

Just left this place, my first time getting chunks from this specific yard. Horrible experience! Do not go here! There are plenty of other good lumbar/firewood yards in the area. I was given a price to load the back of my truck up with chunks and drove around to do so. After I was done, one of the (brothers) owners came out yelling. He took 3 pieces of wood out of the back of my truck, telling me that I was stealing from him and screaming at the top of his lungs. I was scared. As I try to explain myself, that I had just been quoted the price and paid for exactly the amount of wood I should be laying in the back of the truck, he repeatedly yelled for me to shut up. As I try to apologize for the misunderstanding, he coldly told me to leave as I stood there in tears. I have never had an experience like this at any business. Please go elsewhere, these people have no compassion or business etiquette. This is not how you run a business. Or appropriate in any way. read more

These guys are wonderful!! When I bought my house, with a wood burning fireplace, I placed an order on-line because it was after hours and Thomas called me the next day. He asked me questions about my fireplace and determined by the size, etc. that I would be better off with alligator juniper and red gum. The combination of the two is wonderful. They delivered and stacked it for us. My husband is disabled and cannot do anything strenuous so they were a Godsend. Now, all I have to do is call and they know what I want and where to bring it.
