I called and ordered half a cord some time ago. I stated that I wanted a half a cord, and Jerry took the order. Jerry failed to mention that he doesn't sell by the standard measurements for firewood, but a smaller quantity. He showed up a bit late, which made me do some research while waiting. When Jerry showed up I calmly asked him if I really was receiving halv a cord. This must be somewhat common because immediately the swearing started and some really indecent slurs was used. My neighbor watched the whole ordeal and he reminds me about it more than I would care for. I feel that I really dodged a bullet there. But I hear Jerry is stacking well for all those who are inclined to use this feature while paying inflated prices. read more

I have used him for years. Always great wood. I can't speak to the "half cord" issue, but he repiles your old wood to the front when he delivers the new. It's always nice and neat. I see his head looking back as he pulled out of my gate and disappeared down the road. His wood quantity was weak at best. I called him and heard his voice. I wish that I could give a good review because our initial conversation was pleasant but when they delivered the wood my wife was home and when I got back that afternoon although I paid for two stacks of 4 x 8, I got one stack of 4 x 10. It took me a few days of communicating and sending pictures but Jerry finally agreed that it was an under-delivery and that he would send Wood my way to make up for it. I have texted and called him continuously for the past three weeks to follow up and he has ignored my text messages and voicemails and now screens my calls. Being a fellow Minnesota native I expected better service and more responsibility from Jerry. Contacted Jerry to see what kind of wood he had and what the price was. I originally contacted him because a neighbor raved about him. Well, the type of wood he had this week (shaggy juniper) was exactly what I was looking for, and the price was excellent, especially considering he delivered and stacked the wood. Delivery was made two days after I contacted him, and I couldn't be happier. Beautiful wood, stacked perfectly, and even some advice on how to arrange it in the fireplace for easy starting as well as what to do if the stack somehow attracts squirrels. I called him for wood for my smoker. He only had oak (which happens to be what I mainly use) and he arrived the next day with the delivery. When I called Jerry, I was a bit surprised by what I learned. Starting with the positive, Firewood by Jerry (aka Quality Residential Firewood) does include delivery and stacking with all orders, so that is a plus. However, on the downside, when you call him for his prices, the unfortunate truth is that he is not quite transparent in his pricing/quantities. Whether you buy a half cord or full cord, you actually get 33% less than expected for that unit of measurement. (And his prices are not 33% less than his competitors.) If he was upfront about holding back 1/3 of what you think you're buying, as a delivery/stacking charge, perhaps some would still find it a satisfactory deal. However, for those not in the know, and trying to do some price shopping, I felt compelled to share what I have learned, so you can compare apples to apples. (Don't forget to factor in delivery/stacking costs with other vendors. Some might charge more, but some are less.) Details: *Standard Full cord = 128 cubic feet (16 inches x 4 feet X 24 feet) *Jerry's full cord = 85.3 cubic feet (16 inches x 4 feet x 16 feet) *(In this situation you're missing out on a 4 foot tall stack of wood that is 8 feet wide.) **Standard Half cord = 64 cubic feet (16 inches x 4 feet x 12 feet) **Jerry's half cord = 42.6 cubic feet (16 inches x 4 feet x 8 feet) **(In this situation, you're shorted a 4 foot tall stack of wood that is 4 feet wide.) MIf a zero star were available, that would be my rating. The first time I did business with Jerry, he seemed pleasant, knowledgeable and honest. I found out the hard way that his persona was simply to get my business, later denying all the information that he gave me. He promised that he understood the many others that don't know the true measurements or weight of a cord or half cord and he promised that he was honest in his measurements. He did tell me that his logs were only an average of 16" long, so shorter than the 18" to 24" lengths normally cut, making the order slightly under a half cord. I measured and found that the average length of his logs was only 13" to 14", not 16" long. We have our wood storage area marked 8' long by 4' high, so there is no question of correct amount of wood that is stacked. (This also helps us know when we're in need of reordering wood.) However, he does not stack the wood as required by AZ legal regulations, which requires all wood be stacked tight, parallel with no space in between. Since I trusted him, I didn't see how loosely and in a crisscrossed manor that he stacked the wood. So, I took pictures of how many air pockets instead of wood were in the face cord. I then restacked it the correct way, which showed the undeniable shortage of wood from what we paid for and took pics to show him. All my requests for a solution were ignored. I believe in second chances, so called to order wood this year from him, but I would gladly stack it myself, so I wouldn't be shorted again. Jerry became quite agitated and told me that he didn't want my business because I "was too much work..." If I offered to stack the wood myself and save him that task, how is that "too much work"? He now claims that he never tells customers that he sells by a half cord, but "a stack of wood". I can only conclude that his unprofessional attitude was because by me stacking the wood correctly, this would hold him accountable and force him to admit that he doesn't give customers an honest and accurate amount of wood. This company should be held accountable and educated on the AZ Regulated Measurements and weight required for a legal sale. He advised me to take my business elsewhere, which is the best and most honest advice that he's given me. I definitely will not recommend to buy from "Quality Residential Firewood" or "Firewood by Jerry". I am also confused and surprised as to how he has received such high ratings from customers, unless they don't realize the accurate measurements for pricing wood, compared to the far less amount of wood that he actually delivers. read more
