You're probably wondering why should I venture into an establishment like this. Well for starters the tequila flows like wine especially if you know the right people. Pony tailed bartenders with beards make the best patron shots and if you ask nicely (very nicely) they might even throw in some salt and a lime. I stare vacantly at a couple across the bar. I would really say a 3.5, but didn't have the heart to give a 3 star. When I first started coming to Bernard's, I would have said 5 stars for the happy hour alone. I think we came every other week or so. Since then, they have changed the menu a few times and changed the happy hour. The poutine is gone and they moved the wings, tenders, and pretzels off the happy hour. However, the staff is usually really attentive and food is quick. It's a good place to grab a quick drink and some food. I'm still routing for the missing poutine to make a return. I'll add that when I first started coming, the place was packed during happy hour. We went for happy hour. Drinks and food were great. Ordered Rum punch shots to start, not my taste, and a couple beers on tap which were great. The server hooked us up with loaded fries off the menu which were divine. Perfect balance of cheese and bacon. We also ordered the Ruben Eggrolls they were really good and heavy with corn beef and sauerkraut, which I love. Would definitely visit again. read more

Excellent food, cooked well. Menu is pretty fantastic for a bar/tavern type place! The sweet potato fries are out of this world. Good selection of beers, wines and happy hour specials. The night I went, the service was amazing! I think after a while, the music was a little too loud for regular conversation. That was my only gripe. It is indeed a tavern, NOT a club. If I wanted club music, I would be at a club -- just made it hard to enjoy my friends' company, but overall I'll go back. read more

Bernard's was a "come backer" my colleague and I ate there twice during our stay in Columbus. Menu was great with good healthy choices and solid bar food also. The place has lots of room, a big bar and lots of TV's, the staff was very attentive and helpful. I would try this place. read more

I like this place a lot and think it's better than almost every place in the Arena District. My only complaint is that the space is not that big, so it can get pretty crowded and it's hard to move around at times. You might have to wait a little bit to get a drink as well. The drinks, however, are reasonably priced, and the general environment is pretty laid-back and fun. I would recommend going here. read more

Bernard's Tavern has one of my favorite happy hours in the Short North. Half priced drafts, bottles, and small plates from 4PM-7PM. How can you beat that?! I'm alway pleased with my dining experience. Now, if you are looking for an upscale place, this is not it. It's your typical bar with tvs and food. My friends and I like it because it's never too crowded and the service is great. You may be thrown off by the atmosphere because it is a little dark in there, but the prices make up for that. Some of my favorite items are the Sriracha teriyaki chicken wings ($5.00) and artichoke dip ($4.00). AND, they always have Jackie O's on tap. Nice place to go to for Happy Hour. Food and drinks aren't too expensive and they do have a nice selection of beers. The music isn't loud, making it an ok place to actually talk to your friends. The food itself isn't very good- I had the fish tacos (flavorless) and ranch fries (tasty but too salty). Service is friendly and attentive. read more

Super disappointed in this so called sports bar. I have been a short north resident and tend to visit all places in the area. The food has always been good here and good atmosphere. This saturday gathered with friends to watch a football game at the local sports bar, Bernard's Tavern. I was a but suspect as delayed to put sound on during start of game but waited till songs finished and did turn on a few minutes into game as your crowd visited your establishment to drink, eat and watch the game. The buckeyes were losing and as avid fan i watch sports for the emotions good and bad. This bar 2 minutes left in the game turned off ALL tvs to other games not even 1 tv left to finish watching the game. I am devasted. This is actually a 2nd chance as this winter on a blue jacket playoff game had harry potter trivia instead during a major ohio sports game...this event allowed no ability to enjoy the game with such going on....i will not be going back ever to watch a game...this is not a sports bar. But your food is good so there is that... read more

This was our first Sunday brunch here. We never actually got to brunch. The server was nice but never brought us the brunch menu even after we asked her ( we had to borrow one from the people sitting next to us). She took our drink orders and proceeded to do something on the cash register which took 10 minutes while the bartender dicked around on his smart phone instead of making our mimosa and Bloody Mary. We just ordered fried green tomatoes and got out of there. Tomatoes were good. Bloody Mary was not so much. Also, the place was not crowdedat all so there was really no excuse for poor service. read more

Bernard's is a good place to visit when you've out grown the Arena District bars but still want to go out with friends and have a fun night. The atmosphere is upbeat and the jukebox makes for an eclectic mix of music. The beer selection is very good and mixed drinks are great. The bar tenders and waitresses are friendly and attentive. My only complaint is when the bar is crowded on weekend evenings seating is very difficult to find and even finding a good place to stand is difficult. Sometimes the bar is hard to get to when they are busy. I have never had food at Bernard's but I have heard good things. Bernard's is a great bar to stop by with friends and relax. read more

I visited Bernard's Tavern last night for happy hour. They have a great selection of beers and good happy hour specials. It wasn't too crowded and service was EXCELLENT. I practice a vegan diet, so I didn't expect to order anything, but the server knew A LOT about veganism and helped me pick out an extremely good salad topped with their veggie burger. Pub food is well done here and the atmosphere is pretty neutral. However, a bunch of us went to watch the Euro quarter finals which they had on a huge screen plus several others yet they wouldn't turn the sound on for the game. Apparently, Abba takes precedence over the entire bar. It was Comfest weekend so the place was dead except for 5 tables in the entire bar. 4 out of those 5 tables were there for the game (purchasing food and plenty of drinks). When we asked the manager if we could get sound for the game he flat out said "no". If I would have known, I would have spent money somewhere else. They used to show the World Cup games with the sound on. Bad business decision on their part. Now I know to watch somewhere else. The place was dead on a Sunday at 2 pm Comfest weekend. One of those places you might want to avoid on the weekend (Super crowded and full of college kids) but for whatever reason is totally dead during the week. Quite a few TVs, beers, and menu foods (the Taquitos are a nice change), honestly not sure why I and everyone else doesn't come here more often? (Skee ball machine in corner too!)
