I haven't had a cleaning in about 6 years. A friend always talks about the quality of service at Dr. Rust's, so I made an appointment.
I had my teeth cleaned the Thursday before last. The receptionist, Jodi, was super sweet and said my friend had mentioned me coming in. She was amazing. Every patient that came in she knew by name. They do take your picture, which probably helps, but the overall vibe was warm friendly and comforting. The Hygienist, Sarah, was very nice and thorough and didn't give me a hard time about my long absence from a dental chair. She also explained each process before she did it so I wouldn't be surprised. She took my x-rays (not just ones from the sides, but angled ones as well) and cleaned my teeth. I liked that she didn't press really hard on my teeth and let me know where my tarter problem areas were so I could focus a little extra time on those spots. Dr. Rust said I had 2 cavities. I'd never had a cavity before.
I returned the following Tuesday to get them drilled, filled and my teeth whitened. I scheduled all of this against the council of the young recptionist with short hair. It was not too much to handle, but I do appreciate the warning, as it was almost too weird having both sides of my bottom jaw numbed. The shots Dr. Rust used almost didn't hurt at all, a soft pinch hurts more. The numbing serum took effect very quickly. Ok... not going to lie. I was so TERRIFIED I was physically shaking! Not of the drill, the smell or anything. Just of maybe accidentally feeling something, which didn't happen. There was nothing to worry about. Those numbing shots really work. The drill does have a weird smell, but it lasts so briefly that I didn't mind. The procedure was painless and very quick. About ten minutes each to drill and fill my 2 cavities. Dr. Rust made jokes to calm my nerves and was very kind, taking time to answer any of my questions before we started.
The fillings are so good no one has been able to guess where they are in my mouth! :) The patch looks the exact color of my teeth! Dr. Rust said they'd last about 20 years. More if I took good care of them. I can't even express how much I appreciate the hole team being gentle. When I had my wisdom teeth removed years ago, another doctor messed up something in my left jaw. It pops and hurts. Dr Rust made sure no one opened my mouth too wide. (ex. The hygienist was on my first visit and the dental assistant was who bleached my teeth on my second visit.) I had no jaw pain after either visit.
When I was done processing, my teeth came out a whole noticeable shade whiter. :) Please note this process does take 45 minutes. They told me their blech is peroxide based so it is less damaging to your enamel, but it doesn't normally get you more than a couple shades whiter. I'd much rather have healthy teeth that aren't scarey white, so that was perfect for me.
At every step I was treated like the only patient. The staff seems genuinely eagar to help you in any and everyway. The facilities are very clean, even though the building is a little dated. The technology all looked very up to date. (At least it's much newer equipment than the place I went to before.) There is also a happiness in the air. You can tell, everyone who is working there loves their job and wants to be there. The contagious positivity rubs off on the patients. Everyone there was nice. I had such a wonderful experience on both of my visits and am looking forward to my next appointment.
I highly recommend Dr. Rust for anyone who wants a warm caring doctor who actually listens to you and addresses your concerns. I will most certainly be going back for my 6 month cleaning. read more
