My mouth was an open sore and the meds I was provided helped me survive the following week. Eventually, the swelling subsided and 2 weeks later, the stitches came out. I remember crying in my then-boyfriend's arms the day before scared I wouldn't wake up. The consultation with Dr. Hernandez was comforting. I asked if I could keep the teeth as a memento but he said no, because the severity of the impaction meant they would not be coming out in once piece. Also, I would not be under partial anesthesia. I would be completely unconscious. That terrified me. Granted, 10 months earlier I had undergone a surgery and was knocked out then, too so I was acquainted with general anesthesia, BUT STILL. When the day arrived my cousin acted as my caretaker. There were no gowns, the room looked like any other dental room. I was hooked up to an IV, told I'd feel something tingly, and before I knew it, I blacked out. (Like with my other surgery, I was like, "I'm just going to rest my eyes a bit while they're still getting ready..." and when I woke up they were done. wtf) I proceeded to text four people about how much I felt like a marshmallow. We picked up my pain pills, and I rested the next few days at my sister's. I lived off tea and protein shakes (and lost about seven pounds, lol) for a few days before a friend of mine took me out to brunch where I ate soft foods slowly. My mouth healed remarkably well and the best part was the surgery was covered by my insurance. I only had a $25 copay and that's it. No additional payments. It was the best decision my dentist ever made for me. Unfortunately I thought the removal would help with my migraines, but my wisdom teeth were not a contributing factor to them. :( But I am glad to have those teeth out, as they could have caused some serious problems. Pain never visits at a good time, especially when it comes on the weekend. To my dismay, I could not find an emergency dentist here in Austin open on a Sunday. Can you believe that? In Austin..and surrounding areas..nothing. The pain was bad enough that I thought; "lets try 100 miles away in San Antonio!" I called and spoke to one of the kindest voices I think I've ever heard in a Doctor's office, Andrea was genuinely concerned and went out of her way to make sure she could get me in the next morning (I had called right before closing Saturday night) got me set up and wished me well on my trip there. Arrived Sunday morning met Andrea and she was as sweet, professional and efficient in person as on the phone. I then was introduced to Liam who would walk me through x-rays, ask what was going on with my tooth pain etc. He has the absolute best personality for a person who might be a little nervous or hesitant to visit the dentist. He is very knowledgeable, friendly and just really caring..the guy puts you at ease immediately. Doctor William Dunn came in then and surveyed the mess in my mouth, came up with a plan of attack and throurougly explained everything. Absolutely didn't feel rushed or just like a number.. The sincere care, concern, integrity and easy going nature in this office definitely starts from the top! I'm sure his example is what keeps the vibe alive.. Then the financial part came and I was kinda expecting the worse (with all this first class service..I thought "ok..here it comes.." Arnol explained exactly what the process would be and answered all my questions- I must say the price was reasonable and definitely not anything I was dreading. Arnol is great too a real people person! Note: Another dentist in another city had suggested a whole procedure in the future that would literally run about 25k and these two should me how and why that wasn't necessary, using my x-rays and their expertise. In fact they explained in very simple terms I would actually need much less done than previously advised. No sketchy selling of services here.. I feel they truly had my healtg and my best interests in mind, and I intend to follow their advice. Long story short.. procedure completed (extraction of a abcess tooth) and practically instant relief! I will actually drive the 100 miles to get the rest of my work needed here.. to me, integrity, professionalism, service and medical skill go a long way. These folks have it all.

Dr. Lemke could tell I was anxious for our consultation and calmed me down instantly just talking about our hobbies. The day of surgery was just as easy, everyone was nice and professional but so fun with how they kept your mind off of what I thought was my doom. I got the PRF, where they take some blood and spin the plasma out of it and put it on the wounds for and 80% faster healing time. My biggest fear was using the syringe to irrigate the sockets but with the PRF I didn't have to do that! All in all great people, easy procedure/process, and fast recovery. I won't ever do it again, but if I had to I wouldn't get myself all worked up over it.
