We were referred here by our friend who had Dr. Ong do his knee surgery. We had our first appointment with Dr. Ong today. We were thoroughly impressed! We went to a different office previously and we wished we would've started here. From the staff to Dr. Ong himself, what a difference from the other office! I will share our experience so hopefully I save someone else some hassle. I will update this review with his knee surgery results periodically. Any negative reviews I saw about this office, were about the doctor's bedside manner. We actually LOVED his straightforward bedside manner. We aren't here to find a bestie. We need a knowledgeable doctor that knows his stuff, who will perform a detailed surgery with incredible results. Upon leaving our first visit with Dr. Ong, my husband expressed how much more confidence he has with Dr. Ong than he ever felt with the other doctor. He didn't get the car salesman feel like we did at the other office. We didn't feel like just a number ( or just a dollar sign $$$) but we actually felt this office cared. My husband has a complete ACL tear among other knee tears. His work won't let him go back to work until he gets his knee repaired - which would be great IF he was getting paid. His FMLA only saves his job for 3 months. Trying the other office first, they wasted FIVE WEEKS of his recovery time with only an MRI to show from it. Next I will compare Dr. Ong's office with Advanced Orthopedics. ONG'S OFFICE: You call- and just imagine, someone answers! OTHER OFFICE: Waiting on hold for 30 minutes before you go to voicemail OR worse yet, waiting on hold 30 minutes before they hang up on you so you have to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes. ONG'S OFFICE: He listens to what happened to cause your injury, answers your questions and then gets down to business. He does a thorough exam, explains your findings while showing your MRI imaging and uses a knee model to give a detailed explanation of what's wrong and what needs to be done. OTHER OFFICE: You see two other trainees before you see the doctor. The doctor comes in, tells a joke. Touches your knee and stays they'll start working on prior authorization. ONG'S OFFICE: "We'll have this request in by tomorrow. My name is Myra if you have any questions..." OTHER OFFICE: "It's not turned in yet. We'll get that done within the next 7-10 business days for a prior authorization request." ONG'S OFFICE: "Where would you like your FMLA paperwork sent to? I can CC you on it as well." OTHER OFFICE: "Your FMLA paperwork will be completed in 7-10 days. We don't email paperwork. You'll have to come pick it up." read more

I went to Dr. Ong in August, knowing I need a knee replacement. He even told me so after looking at xrays. This 1st visit was very quick, didnt spend anytime with me at all! I'm thinking. Ok, wow He must be really busy today. He offered me an injection to see if it might help as I was still working. That didn't help but for a few days. Made another appt, and mind you my co-pays are $55.00 each visit. 2nd appt, he gave me a different type of injection. That too didn't help too well, but a little. I'm 67, and knowing I need a replacement, as he told me last visit that's the ONLY thing that will really help me, I made a 3rd appt to get it going for the surgery. MY MOUTH FELL TO THE FLOOR WHEN HE TOLD ME I HAVE TO WAIT 3 MONTHS AFTER INJECTIONS TO GET THE SURGERY! He never..ever told me this! I was now off work on disability. I started to tear up a little, I was shocked he didn't tell me. I told him, you never told me this!! His reply was...It's pretty standard knowledge. Well...obviously not as I didn't know! Asked him what am I supposed to do now, I'm off work. He then just shrugged his shoulders, saying..I don't know. Shrug your shoulders??? How unprofessional can you get? As I'm now twiddling my thumbs for 3 months, I found a different Dr, but after 3 months are up, I'm not getting and type of disability payments from my work for 30 days, then my long term disability kicks in. 30 days with no pay!!! I can't afford that. But I'm stuck!! Had he told me before he gave me those injections, that I would have to wait 3 months, i would not have had the injections, because my main reason for seeing him was to get the surgery over with, as I'm not getting any younger!! He doesnt take the time to educate or inform his patients about anything! Didn't say if I should stay off my knee, do I walk, do exercises, use ice, use heat...maybe physical therapy. Nothing!!! Just prescribed me medication. Horrible on giving us the time we deserve and tell us what the hell is going on!! Now I get an email from his office as he's no longer in practice. I wonder why. Dr. Ong and his staff are excellent. I've been to his practice for consultations for my knees and my shoulder. He is straight forward and good at conveying the information you need to hear as well as answering any questions you may have. Also, the surgical center (of which he is part owner) is top notch. Everything went smoothly with my procedure and the follow up appointments were worthwhile. The only slightly negative remark I will make is that there is often a wait time longer than what one would expect when coming in for an appointment, in this case follow-up appointments. I guess that is to be expected at a thriving medical practice though. I plan to use Dr. Ong's expertise for my future ortho needs. read more

If I could give this 6 Stars I would. Dr. Ong performed full knee replacement surgery on me, December 19th. I less than two months I was walking better than I have in years. Where I had constant pain for decades, I have none now and it is getting better every day. If knee surgery is in your future, you could not do better than Dr. Bernard Ong!!! read more

This issue is not with Dr Ong, rather his administrative staff, specifically his office manager Julia. I called on November 14th and booked an appointment with Dr Ong on November 17th. He was highly recommended by a friend of mine. His credentials are impeccable. I spoke with an office employee named Becky. I was very specific to the on the nature of the visit, which was a knee replacement. I was diagnosed by another doctor 1 1/2 years ago that I needed a knee replacement. I let that be known to Becky. During my visit, Dr Ong came in to the room, and asked the nature of my visit. I told him I was there to start the process of a knee replacement. He then stated to me (with my wife present), that he doesn't do knee or hip replacements any longer. I then wondered to myself, why I was even there if that was the case? Dr Ong's billing department called on December 16th to get an update on my insurance for billing purposes. I then asked to speak with office manager Julia and told her "I don't think I should be billed for the office visit, given the nature of the visit was null and void before the visit." I feel the office staff should have cancelled the appointment beforehand, knowing Dr. Ong was no longer performing those procedures. Julia told me today the staff was just informed this week of Dr Ong's decision. So Dr Ong is telling clients (with a trainee present), that he is no longer doing knee replacements, but he didn't tell his staff? Hmmmmm.... A little sketchy if you ask me. Julia was very adamant about submitting the charges despite my best efforts to convince her the appointment was made under false pretenses. It's only a $20 copay for me but it's the principle of the matter. I'm sure Medicare and Cigna would be interested hearing this story. Julia, it's still not too late to waive the charges. It's the right thing to do. read more

Not an honest doctor and practice. Its been 18 months and I am still getting random bills and calls from this office and debt collectors. The office manager / wife of the doctor is who is in charge of billing and you will get bills for the surgery, the surgery center and a consultant charge. I never agreed to billing from 3 separate entities. From my point of view they are milking the insurance system with these continuous charges and when that doesn't work they create new charges for the patients. SCAM AND FRAUD is likely here. read more

I was assigned this doctor due to a workers comp injury so unfortunately I had repeated interactions with him. Dr. Ong is the most condescending, disrespectful and dismissive medical "professional " I've ever encountered. He repeatedly cut me off while I was speaking, acted like questions about injury annoyed him and showed zero respect towards me. Compassion or empathy are completely absent. His arrogance is palpable and the office staff isn't any better. I waited over 90 minutes to see him without a word as why or an apology. If I wasn't FORCED to go to him through my job's insurance company I would've never went back after first visit. STAY AWAY Find a doctor that will treat you as a human being. read more

I had been putting off my knee replacement for over 2 years now.I finally had no choice and went ahead and did it on October 25. Dr Ong did a fantastic job!!! I thought the pain was going to be awful. I truly am amazed how well it came out and how the pain was nothing like I thought it would be. I didn't have much swelling and not much bruising either. He made me feel safe and secure the day of surgery as he knew I was so scared! If I ever need any other operations he will be the man to call.The staff is fantastic too! Still In Pain!!! Here We Are July 2, 2021 two and a half months later, Dr. Bernie Ong's Folly Continues!  I am still in crippling pain at this date, thanks to Las Vegas', brought to you by NYU Med School and the University of Pittsburgh Center For Sports Medicine, our own reincarnation, of Doctor Joseph Mengele, Dr. Bernie Ong!!!! This "whiz kid" has the bedside manner and compassion of the grey rock that sits my yard, should have his license yanked.  I would never have this purported "magnificent" surgeon touch me again in my life!!  I would gladly prefer to go the my cats' veterinarian, Dr. Dave Mason, at Las Vegas Verterinrary Specialty Center. I really like Dr. Ong, but I made the mistake of asking questions about my treatment for my wrecked knees. He was obviously unhappy with me. I was approved for gel injections in both knees prior to my to my consultation, but even after calling to schedule my appointments, he has ghosted me. It amazes me that this man is so thin-skinned. But if you're looking for compassion, communication and explanation of your condition, look elsewhere. Dr Ong read my MRI and asked, "so what do you want to do?" Seriously, you give me zero options and ask what I want done? When I called with follow up questions, he was obviously too bothered and in an extreme rush to get off the phone. We were on the phone for literally 5 min but I was billed for a full visit. Also, there's no way to pay online. Little behind the times. Makes one wonder what else is behind the times. I went to see Dr Thomas and am very happy with him. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion from Dr Thomas. read more

Dr. Ong is a very caring and knowledgable physician. I had osteoarthritis so bad in my right knee that not only could I not walk without extreme pain but I couldn't straighten out my leg so I walked with a limp. I went to him for a couple of years. He tried shots in my knee but told me that I needed a total knee replacement. Over the years I have not had any luck with doctors and surgeries. I was terrified. But Dr. Ong was always very patient with me and never pushed me into having the surgery before I was ready. I finally had the surgery last year. My recovery went exactly as Dr. Ong outlined for me with follow up appointments and physical therapy. My leg is straight and the scar from the surgery is barely visible. I feel like I have my life back. I can now not only walk on my own without a cane or a walker but I can walk long distances at a time (long for me anyway). Dr. Ong is one of the very best surgeons in Las Vegas. read more

The doctor himself is awesome. The terrible front desk staff who act as if you're beneath their time or notice, however, are not. I was supposed to receive a confirmation of a medical imaging referral for the following day. Having not received one, I called to see what the situation was and the receptionist who answered the phone stated "the person who handles that isn't here. Call back tomorrow." The only problem was, the appointment was supposed to be scheduled for that tomorrow. If you can't document referral info in patient files, then why even operate any kind of filing system? If you don't like your job or the public, take up government work. You're dragging down down a good doctor. read more

Had shoulder surgery July 2021, immediately following surgery developed a sensitivity around one of the incisions... My post surged visit lasted 3 minutes, my concern over the sensitivity was brushed off. Therapist agrees something is wrong, can see an immediate reaction on the skin from simple contact (feels like thousands of tiny needles just stabbing the skin with something like a breeze blowing in it, god forbid clothes making contact). Every visit I raised the same concern, every visit lasted 3 minutes to 5 minutes max (wait time was typically at least 30+ minutes). To appease me he suggested a consultation with a neurologist (therapists believe it was alodynia) but when the neurologist gave his opinion, Dr Ong blew it off and said I was good to be rated (now workers comp will not allow anything the neurologist suggested). And just like that, I can't even have my newborn daughter touch my shoulder as it's a world of pain, not just a wince but in some cases causes me to kneel! A shower is an exercise in pain management as water droplets feel like hot needles. read more

Awful first experience!! Very rushed consultation and left many of my concerns unanswered. Dr. Ong made no attempt to provide explanations and suggestions/options to my immediate issues. No bedside manners whatsoever-he seemed disinterested and unapproachable. The examination room was dusty, torn chair arm rests and corner equipment was stained with brown residue! I was a patient of Dr. Ong's since I moved to Las Vegas in 2020. Without going into lot's of details, I returned to him this summer because I was having a new knee problem. It was clear that he is now overbooking appointments as there was a constant stream of patients coming into the office filling up all the chairs. I had to wait 50 minutes in the reception area and then another 10-15 minutes in the exam room! This was for a morning appointment so seems very unacceptable! When I asked him why my knee (that I had a total ACL replacement 35 years ago) was "popping and catching" without pain, his response was that the x-ray shows the outside of the knee to be bone on bone; that he doesn't think anything but a total knee replacement would help; and I should stay away from actions that cause the "popping and catching". I told him surgery too extreme since I'm not in pain and my concern is that my knee would one day pop out and not back in and he said, "Let's hope that doesn't happen!" I then told him I felt the appointment was a waste of time for me and he said, "We did not call you to come in. You are welcome to seek a second opinion." Wow!! How rude is that!!!! Yes, I will seek a second opinion Dr. Ong. Good luck with your "puppy mill" practice. read more

Dr. Ong has done an excellent job on my knee surgery and previously on my shoulder. Years ago he and Dr Higgins did my other shoulder and knee and after all these years they are still working great. Dr. ONG is absolutely amazing! My husband went thru his 2nd knee surgery flawlessly, with very little pain and fast results. DR. Ong made sure my husband had the best of the best in after surgery care. We had all the essentials to get him thru day by nights needs. My husband is 64 years old and drives a 18 wheeler for a living, which of course tore his body up. By the grace of God we were blessed with Dr. Ong to do the surgery for his 2nd knee. And my hubby has been standing tall and walking without any limp and feels like a young man once again! I thank God for Surgeons like Ong!!! My husband was referred to Dr. Ong for his knee. Everything happened so smooth and quick. Got a consult,MRI and scheduled for surgery all within a week. Surgery went very well and continued with follow up appointments and physical therapy. So excited to say, 3 months after surgery, my husband is cleared of appointments and physical therapy!!! I have had 4 surgeries, and multiple injections into my knee because of residual damage from having had a badly broken leg. Dr. Ong did my last, and final repair. I am now 6 months past my total knee replacement; and I haven't felt this good in 20+ years! For the two years prior to this surgery I was either wearing a leg brace from hip to toe, or walking with a cane... or both, and I was afraid that it would get no better than that. Within 3 months of my surgery I was able to walk 3 miles without a cane. At 6 months I am able to walk 5 miles 3 or 4 times a week (at age 68); and I am down 25 pounds! Do I still have some pain....yes, of course! But it gets better with exercise now, instead of worse! And the scar has healed beautifully, as well. I'm actually able to crawl on my knees to play with my dog, with minimal pain. He did a great job on this knee replacement. When coming into his office for pre and post op visits I was always greeted nicely, and the wait was never more than a few minutes. During this pandemic the staff did a good job of keeping traffic in the waiting area to a minimum. The back office staff is friendly and professional, and very efficient at keeping things moving along.... even with a chatterbox like myself talking their ears off. I highly recommend Dr. Ong's office and skills for whatever your orthopedic needs are. I had a 35 year paramedic career.... so I think I have a pretty good ability to assess the difference between a "good" doctor, and a "great" doctor. Well, my wife had seen doctor Ong, and she was pretty happy. With that I decided to see him for my knee. He worked on it but, in about almost 6 weeks after, I was having pain in the same knee. I called the office, and the person I spoke to said it was too far out from when he did the surgery and that I would have to come back in and start a new claim. I asked what the cut off time to say I'm still having pain after surgery. She said, and I quote, "about 30 days". I said so I have to start with all new copays and deductibles, she said yes. So would I go back? No! Would I recommend doctor Ong? Probably not, but my wife was happy, me not so much. If you are still having pain after surgery, remember, you have "about 30 days", to let them know. I broke my hip, and as that doctor and I started talking, I told him about my knee and doctor Ong. He thought it was pretty crappy that they wanted me to start from the beginning rather than just see what was up with the knee. Good luck everyone. read more

Made an appointment for 1:50pm. Show up at 1:45. Went into for xrays at 2:40. Saw Physician assistant at 2:55. Dr Ong came in for one minute. Said i needed an MRI and left. Cool, thanks. Asked for a copy of my xrays so i can take them to another doctor. Said the X-ray person is busy so i would have to wait and pay $5. Ok great, I'll pay for it and come back and get it. No, you must sit here and wait until the xrays are done. May i come back to pick them up so i don't need to waste more time here? No you have to wait for them here or we can't get started on it. This is not a review on Dr Ong because i honestly have no idea how he is as a doctor. But as others have said, don't expect the office to keep any appointment times and expect to wait at least an hour for a soulless experience. I would understand if the dr spent time with all his patients, but he doesn't. read more

Today I had my 6-month follow-up appointment with Dr. Ong for my knee replacement. As I explained to Dr. Ong, I am so happy with the outcome. I am 70 years old and am now back to my regular workouts with activities that include hour walks, swimming laps, rowing, stationary bike, elliptical, spinning, kickboxing, aerobics and leg strength-training. I feel great and am so glad to be active again. Dr. Ong is very professional and seems to really care about his patients. I am so lucky to have selected him to do my surgery. read more

Had a torn acl injury. Went to Dr.Ong and it was fixed perfectly. No he is not the most personal guy but he is straight forward and gets the job done. It is virtually impossible in Las Vegas to find a Doctor's office that actually answers the phone in person, does what they say they are going to do, AND runs on time for their appointments. This place does all of the above. I did not want to have surgery from a frozen shoulder. Dr. Ong gave me the time and patience to let me give physical therapy a chance. I was able to successfully get past frozen shoulder without surgery. Office staff is great and Dr. Ong has a good bedside manner for a surgeon :) read more
