June 14 2019 my neighbor (We live on Juan Tomas Rd, Tijeras NM) told me that this morning he hit a…read moreyoung deer (Doe) around 6 a m driving on Juan Tomas Rd. He tells me he called 911 (Not sure why) to report the incident. His truck was damaged (Less important than killing a beautiful innocent creature) A Bernalillo County Deputy arrived at his home and took a report. He also "Assured" my neighbor that he would call Animal Welfare in Albuquerque to remove the poor creature. My neighbor says the animal was "Alive" when he left it (Oh my God) Around 5:30 p m I talked with my neighbor who told me he just drove past the deer who is "Still there" but dead. This poor creature laid there from 6 a m to 5:30 p m in sweltering heat on the hot road for nearly 12 hours! Not one other person reported this and Juan Tomas Rd is like a freeway in traffic. To my HORROR I realized this beautiful creature who was simply living life early morning, crisp cool air in early summer had it's life ended by who else ... an irresponsible human. I called Animal Welfare who stated, "They didn't call us" They also told me the deputy could have euthanized the deer and ended it's suffering. Not only did my neighbor make many mistakes: Speeding in a 25 mph zone, not knowing who to call, leaving the poor creature while it was alive, NOT following up or searching for help. A neighbor helped me put the deer in my car and I brought her/him to my home. This morning I will take the beautiful creature to Bernalillo County Animal Welfare Department. They told me the deputy carries equipment to euthanize severely injured wild life. The deputy who responded yet did NOTHING could have ended this animals suffering yet chose not to. 26 years living in the Tijeras area and the norm has become distrust and/or disappointment in the county sheriff's department and/or animal welfare in regard to their lack of concern and response to citizen reports.
