I made a day trip to Bergamo this past week with a friend, and most of the day was spent in Citta Alta, the older, medieval-looking part of the city up in the hills.
Walking through the alleyways and seeing the dated architecture can be fun, but only if you're not hungry! We were hungry around 1pm, and decided to get pizza, hence our stop at Bernabo'.
The wait was INCREDIBLY long. Not sure if it is an Italian thing, but we ordered around 1:30pm and didn't eat until close to 2:30pm! And it's not like we ordered fancy, five-star Michelin dishes as part of a multi-course meal---it was pizza for crying out loud!
Nevertheless, we consumed our pizzas without complaint because we were that hungry! Because of my penchant for onion, I got the Pugliese Bianca, which also came with olive and broccoli (the latter being an unusual ingredient for Italian pizzas, but I liked it!).
Wasn't able to take a pic of my pizza because I didn't want to be "that" girl in front of my friend, but it's nothing to FOMO over. The crust was more like a crispy flatbread (which I don't mind) but could be an unusual thing to encounter if you are not expecting it. read more
